Dawn | 62 comments Just finished Murder, Handcrafted. I absolutely love this series. This story is well told and has great flow, just like the rest of the books in the series. I had a very hard time putting this book down. I like the setting of Amish Country. Hopefully there will be another book in this series. Looking forward to it if there is.

Next up for me is The Pursuit.

Christopher Hunter (goodreadscomchrishunter) | 20 comments I finished "Guidebook To Murder" and it was a wonderful literary adventure that was impossible to put down. Jill just inherited a townhouse from a deceased friends whose death is anything but natural. You meet a myriad of characters whose quirks are fun, imaginative. The writer does an excellent with her use of words that really make the characters' interior monologue and physical characteristics show up in one's mind.

message 325: by Beth (last edited Jul 22, 2016 10:04AM) (new)

Beth | 206 comments I just finished The Anatomist's Wife (Lady Darby, #1) by Anna Lee Huber The Anatomist's Wife and gave it 4 stars. Here's my review:

This is the first book in a new Victorian-era historical romantic mystery series. I know the genre, and I can say that the book fit my expectations, with better-than-average writing for the genre, an interesting murder plot, and a slowly developing love interest for the lady protagonist. As the widow of a deceased anatomist who was forced by him to draw the cadavers he was studying (because of her artistic talent and training) she is despised and feared by high society, and yet her unique background is helpful in solving the case. I enjoyed the book, but I felt that it was a little slow, with too many significant glances and secret smiles that had to be described and analyzed in detail. So, for me, I needed a bit quicker pace.

I just started reading this as part of this month's serial reading challenge. I'm only 34 pages in, but am liking it so far, except for the potential cop boyfriend cliche.

I'm reading Clouds in My Coffee by Julie Mulhern. It's the third in her Country Club mystery series set in the 1970s in a midwestern suburb. It's striking to note what has changed (all phones are corded) and what hasn't like mother-daughter relationships. I'm a fan of this series and this one is another fun read.

The High Heels series are a guilty pleasure for me. The MC, Maddie Springer, is a shoe designer. Spying in High Heels is the first book in the series. Mayhem is 99 cents on Nook and Kindle today. Each title will be 99 cents at some point this month apparently in celebration of the series 10th anniversary.
