What are you READING right now?
I am buddy reading Illuminae, which so far is super exciting and such a cool format (collection of documents). It is considered YA sci-fi I believe.

Just finished reading Kristine Kathryn Rusch's Diving Universe and I loved it.There is a strong female character and an interesting mystery. It's good space opera. Rare violence and no romance.
The only problem is that it was at first novellas which get "sew" together. But it's well done.
Do you other books of the same kind ?
Milk Run, which is the first of a new series by Nathan Lowell about space smugglers. I'm not very far into it yet. So far I'm liking it, but not as much as his Ishmael Wang books.
Najaf wrote: "halfway through The Prefect eagerl-y waiting for Revenger."This is the first I even heard of Revenger!
However, The Prefect is one of my favorite scifi-mystery hybrids of all time.
I have just discovered and begun reading Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga! Late to the party, I realize, but at least I got there. So far the first 3 books have been great.

How far are you? Maybe we can buddy read one?
I've read
- Shards of Honor
- Barrayar
- Warrior's Apprentice
- Vor Game
- Cetaganda

I hope I am starting Message 221. For a few yrs I have been trying to find books as good as the Honor Harrington series. I've been unsuccessful til I found Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series. Had me engrossed on pg 1. I am now on book 4. And they're not 1000 pgs. EXCELLENT SERIES.
I'm reading Crossfire by Nancy Kress. Various groups of humans arrive on an alien planet in order to colonize it.
Well I just finished A.G Riddles first trilogy The Origin Mystery. I am now reading Beacon 23, seems to be a small read but so far it is interesting.
Finished The Immortal Unknown. I am currently reading (among other things) Monk in Outer Space
which is a mystery. Takes place partly at a convention for an SF television show which sort of counts.

It's a very good series. I read it as it came out, and have re-read it a couple of times. My daughter likes it as much as I do. Lois recently published a new book in the series which is centered on Miles' mother. Read the others before you read it, but just wanted to let you know there is more along the way about his parents.
Don't forget Falling Free and Ethan of Athos. They are not Miles books, but are part of the series.
My update for the month. I have too much time on my hands since being disabled and read completely 10 books this month. My sitting at the beach just for fun reads were a couple of Mickey Haller mysteries and pre-release of
- I am on the 2nd books of the Expanse
series. I really liked the first one. When I finish book 2, I am setting the series aside for a while. I haven't watched it on TV, but had heard the tv series was good.I just finished
and need to do a review - the 3rd book of the trilogy. Werbeloff writes very well and makes me think. For me, the thinking always makes it more difficult to figure out what to put into my review.I started
but at 20% it hasn't caught my interest or my imagination. It's one that I promised to review. Since it could just be my state of mind, I will read something else and then go back and see if my perspective changes. This year, I had been reading a children's fantasy series which was very good, but much more involved then I expected it to be. Finished the 4th book
thanks to my free Kindle read.
Wow! You've certainly been reading, Lizzie!I'm actually reading a fantasy at the moment -
, which is the third in the Peter Grant/Rivers of London Series by Ben Aaronovitch. Am really enjoying this series.
Lizzie wrote: "My update for the month. I have too much time on my hands since being disabled and read completely 10 books this month. My sitting at the beach just for fun reads were a couple of Mickey Haller mys..."Recognize that name. He did the novelization for Remembrance of the Daleks
which is one of my all-time favourite Doctor Who episodes.
I am currently reading
, an alternative Earth sci-fi thriller, and a re-read of
to finish up September. On the horizon in Sci-Fi are
before the release of book 6 later this year and a just released Allan Cole self published Sten story
.
Susan wrote: "I have just discovered and begun reading Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga! Late to the party, I realize, but at least I got there. Rereading Wildside by Steven Gould . Main character is 18yo. No spaceships, but definitely a sense of wonder. For me there is an added enjoyment due to the town being Bryan Texas. I lived in College Station for two years around the age of ten, and the closest larger place was Bryan. I have seen the Brazos River, though it has been decades. Yes, this is SF, but not one of the standard storylines unless you talk in vague generalities.
I'm nearly done with Orson Scott Card's Enders Shadow. Amazing. I had low expectations for the story of a supporting character in another book, but Card, I believe, could turn a grocery shopping list into an amazing story.
Just finished reading my interlibrary loan, A Thousand Words for Stranger
by Julie E. Czerneda A great read! Astounded to discover this was her debut novel.
Rereading Defender of the Empire trilogy, by Catherine Beery. Finished Cadet yesterday, now on Facades with Chaos queued. Excellent YA space opera.
Sunstorm by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter. Also reading the "Use Sword On Monster" webcomic by Aaron Williams.
I just picked up these on audiobook.Galactic Heroes, Volume 1: Dawn.
On Basilisk Station (along with volume 2)
Also got this physically.
Aliens
This week I am planning on finishing reading The Black Fleet trilogyWarship Was the first book
Call to Arms Second book which I finished today
Counterstrike Is the book I am now reading
Metal Boxes - At the Edge by Alan Black. This is the latest in a series of space opera books. Strange series; they are very hard for me to put down but I have little desire to reread them.
I've been reading
Remanence for my Kindle Unlimited selection. It's not as good as the first book in the series IMHO.
by Alexander Freed. Not bad at all. Sort of a "Star Wars" take on "Band of Brothers" with just a dash of "The Dirty Dozen".
I'm currently in a middle of a few things :). I'm actively reading Rama Revealed by Arthur C Clarke at the moment to finish the Rama series (I'm a completionist). I'm also reading the seventh Harry Potter book in ebook format while I put the kids to bed. Finally, I'm reading A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian for my book club this month. Once I finish the Rama series, I'll probably delve back into the Expanse series with Abbadon's Gate or go to The Dark Forest to continue where The Three-Body Problem left off. Choices, choices. I don't anticipate making much progress until after Halloween though because I'll be elbow deep in costume work. A group of us are going as characters from Spaceballs, and my friend is all about detail and accuracy as far as possible. Happy reading!
Currently reading Venus in Danger Venus In Danger and Convergence Infinite Earths
as the latter has to be returned to the library soon.
just finished two series by https://www.amazon.com/Mackey-Chandle... - https://www.amazon.com/April-Book-1-M... and https://www.amazon.com/Family-Law-boo... - both are fun, read in order, main character is a young girl in the first and another very young girl in the second. also this series: https://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Ath... - young female ensign engineer.
both are free on kindle unlimited.
I love those Mackey Chandler books! Have read both series multiple times.
I just finished reading a great military space opera series. First one is Auberon, author is Blaze Ward. Action, humor, and some very quirky personalities. Now I'm reading more books set in the same universe, but a thousand or more years earlier.

Dark Disciple by Christie Golden.Based on unproduced scripts for the "Clone Wars" TV series, written by Katie Lucas (daughter of George).
Jedi Master Quinlan Voss goes deep undercover and teams up with Asaj Ventress in an attempt to assassinate her former master, Count Dooku, and bring the Clone Wars to an end.
just finished https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01... - female ya. pretty good, a bit expensive on kindle.
I decided to try getting back into Three-Body Problem, but I don't know if skipping ahead to the one hour mark in the audio book passed everything I read physically months ago was the greatest idea. Finding names tough to follow since they aren't names I typically hear (Chinese names and pronunciation) and there's a lot of characters (with military designations). Might be a book to take notes on.No clue if it gets space opera like, but I hear it's sci fi.

But I am in the middle of Star Carrier: Dark Matter by Ian Douglas
A great series and what I call hard space opera because you can learn things here
