Holli | 397 comments I actually have a book that starts with "The" I didn't put here as I forgot there's no page minimum for this challenge. I run into them so often in other challenges, my mind automatically goes "it's not long enough." My apologies.

I completely missed the no page minimum. I think I just assumed there would be one.

Anyway, I just started The Library at Mount Char for the detour. It may take me a bit since I'm listening to the audiobook and I usually save those for long car rides and cleaning. I do have some unpacking to do and a bit of traveling so hopefully it won't be too long.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I was just looking at the spreadsheet and noticed that I had a fun books that were in the luggage that started with "The" LOL Ok so the new task is a bokk that starts with an "O" ok off to see what I have :)

message 205: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Hey ladies! I just wanted to let you all know I'm still working on my "the" book. I'm about 40% through, I tend to take longer with book tapes, but I should be finished sometime this week.

message 206: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) No worries! It's all good :-)
It took me forever at that dead author detour.

message 207: by Holli (new)

Holli | 397 comments I've been a little slumpish. I actually had a book demand I re-read it and actually put me into a slump when I ignored it. It wouldn't take "I just read you in January" for an answer. Probably because I saw the movie recently. I have, however, also started The Odyssey for the book that starts with an O.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Sorry ladies. I've been falling behind but I'll try and get to my O book soon.

message 209: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments No worries Carmen, we're not up to the O stop yet, but no harm in reading ahead. :)

I'm impressed Holli - I'll give most things a shot but must admit that The Odyssey intimidates me and I don't think I'd pick it up. ;)

I did finally choose something and finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane today for my O book.

message 210: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I already have my O book, I'll post it when we get to that stop :-)

Thanks. Unfortunately, it's kind of a snore for me. Even reading it with the audiobook.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Big age gap! I'm from Southern California, I have three kids, 19, 18, and 13.

message 219: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I just finished The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins for my 'the' book.

Sorry it took me so long. I'm in the midst of moving and starting a new job and had less time to read than I hoped. Next week should be better though so I will find a book for the next challenge in the morning.

message 220: by Holli (new)

Holli | 397 comments Miranda wrote: "where is everyone from?"

I'm from Texas. I have a cat who acts like a small child. :-)

message 221: by Sarah (last edited Jun 08, 2016 09:15AM) (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments I'm from the UK, no kids, but I adore being an auntie. :)

I've messaged the Travel Agent that we've finished stop 4. I was working on the spreadsheet but it threw me out - I'll go back in a minute see if it will let me on. Off to Australia!

message 222: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Ok, I think the spreadsheet is all updated. I don't think anyone has said no to the detour - title starting with O - so I've used that. We have five books already in the luggage, and Berit already has an "O" book. Just Carmen and Victoria to go - and we have to stop off here for a week anyway. ;)

What are everyone's thoughts about cowboys/cowgirls? That's our next detour after we're done with the O books. I did think it was impossible until I searched my kindle for "cowboy" and found I already had a freebie that worked. :) So I'm ok with either.

message 223: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments I might struggle a little with cowboys. I'll take a look but don't think I already own anything that'll fit.

Sarah | 2131 comments Zee wrote: "I might struggle a little with cowboys. I'll take a look but don't think I already own anything that'll fit."

Yeah, outside of Romance the selection is really limited. :(

message 225: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I recently moved to VA, but I'm from just about everywhere. And I don't have any kids.

I began reading Obsidian yesterday. I can usually get through romance books pretty quickly so hopefully it won't take me as long as the last one.

And I don't think I have any cowboy/cowgirl books, but i can look.

message 226: by [deleted user] (new)

Unless we are going to do the cowboy/cowgirl detour, I'll probably pass on reading any of the ones I have ;)

I don't know if you can claim a reading slump; The Count of Monte Cristo is a beast of a book to finish. And I'm sorry you didn't like it, it's one of my favorites. Although I do understand your dislike for classics. I like most, but I have had Moby Dick on my currently reading shelf since November and I am no closer to finishing it.

Victoria | 1132 comments Miranda wrote: "in Eve there is a very small part where she dresses like a boy so the kings troops don't notice her. does that count as girl dressing like a boy?"

I think that would work. Hopefully we get enough people for that detour, it's one of my favorite tropes. I don't know why, but I love reading about a girl disguising herself as a boy to get away with certain things.

message 233: by Holli (new)

Holli | 397 comments @Victoria: Probably so on the slump thing. I'm just kind of behind where I want to be book wise for the month. I have Moby Dick on my tbr list, so I can sympathize with not wanting to read it. It's intimidating. If you go to librivox.org they have audiobooks for books in the public domain. Moby Dick is one. Their audios are generally pretty good.

I'm going to pretend I never said that nasty word and just go along the lines of reading books I wasn't in the mood for. :-)

Victoria | 1132 comments What's the plan when we get to the next stop? It doesn't sound as though too many people have cowboy/girl books so are we going to the spell it out instead?

message 236: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Sure, I'm good with that. We have loads of books in the luggage so we can avoid having to find another U.

I listened to Moby Dick on Librivox and it took months - I was ok until the faux science began and then I almost lost the will to live. Stubbornness saw me through!

No worries. I hope you picked up something good:)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments If you decide to go with a cowboy/cowgirl book for the next travel I already read one but if not I have quite a few books that I haven't added to the luggage that can be used. I'm 1/2 through my "O" so we can get to the next stop.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments We are in Berit. So now it's a matter of what the team wants to do about the next stop, Detour or spell-it out?

message 245: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments I would really struggle with cowboy/girl personally but what does everyone else want to do?

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I don't care either way because I read a cowboy book but also have books to add so we can spell too. So I guess majority rule. LOL

message 247: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments I had to Google Noumea, and now I want to go visit!

Looks like most people would prefer the spell-it, so I've set up the spreadsheet for that, and put books in from the Luggage to spell Noumea.

Everyone's covered, except for Elle and Berit. Elle, I wasn't sure if any of your books that don't work for future detours had any letters we needed. But as Noumea is only 6 letters long, then we just need any book from you guys to complete this stop.

As before, if anyone wants to swap the book I've used, please go ahead, as unless it's marked in the notes I don't know if you were saving it for something.

I'd better get started soon on Ink and Bone for alternate history. Shame I have library books that need attention first. :)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Awesome Sarah. As a matter of fact I need to read that book too so I can read it for the alternative too :)
