Sarah | 2131 comments Spreadsheet updated. :) We have 5 out of 8 now for this stop. I'm glad there is no pressure for this challenge though, I'm enjoying the relaxation.

I have been to the US, which definitely counts for me as I live in the UK, but I haven't visited any of other stops. Some of them are definitely not usual destinations. :)

I keep on flip flopping over what to pick up for a title starting with O - it's a good job that's a way off yet. I can keep on changing my mind for a little while longer.

Miranda (miranda82) | 351 comments I'm still waiting for the library to get the books I put on hold for author who died 5+years.. if you don't want to wait on me that's ok.. I don't know when I could finish it

Unless I'm mistaken, the FAQ states the star goal has to be exact wording "the star" in the text, no plurals or deviations. It was quite hard to find it in singular form so someone may want to check & make sure I'm not bumbling it up.

Yay! Good job everyone, now on to Russia! Any preferences on the task? I thought the book I was listening to would work for "the star", but I think the quote was along the lines of "watching the stars" so I don't think it will work in the end. I wouldn't mind reading a book set in Russia, but I'm fine with any challenge.

message 166: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I have a book with the star, but I can do whatever, it probably won't take me as long, the problem is I read so much contemporary romance, and none of those authors are dead.

Berit wrote: "I have a book with the star, but I can do whatever, it probably won't take me as long, the problem is I read so much contemporary romance, and none of those authors are dead."

Haha...we need some kind of cheat sheet because I keep having to refer to the Read Me First.

Berit, "The Star" detour is for the stop in Russia, not this one (Turkey).

Here's where we stand:
7 out of 8 members have completed the detour giving us 40 points.
If Berit can complete this detour (dead author), we would get an additional 10 points BUT we can move on with just any book read by Berit for no additional points.

I'm not concerned with the extra 10 points so moving on is fine with me. I'm also fine staying at this stop if Berit wants to try & read the dead author. Basically, I'm fine with whatever...LOL :)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I read my dead author book! And I already posted it :-)

So sorry, missed that post. It's on the spreadsheet now :) Since I'm not sure what else Sarah was filling in before contacting the Travel Agent, I'm leaving that up to her or someone else.

message 170: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Don't worry about it :-) it took me long enough ;-)

I messaged the Travel Agent that we were done - and that we finished stop 1 as well (oops). ;)

Off to Russia!

message 172: by Sarah (last edited Feb 20, 2016 08:33AM) (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Ok, so we have two books already read with "the star" in (I do agree - I think it has to be exact), and Berit has one she could read.

If we went with a spell it, then from the luggage tab we could already fill in:

T - This Is Not A Test (Miranda)
Y
U - Uprooted (Carmen)
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (Holli)
E - Naked in Death (character Eve) (Victoria)
N - The Shepherd's Crown (character Nanny Ogg) (Sarah)

or

R - Writing Scary Scenes by Rayne Hall (Holli)
U - Uprooted (Carmen)
S - Shadow and Bone (Elle)
S - The Shepherd's Crown (Sarah)
I - I Hunt Killers (Miranda)
A - Then Came You (character Alex) (Victoria)

Zee's other unused book starts with "The" so I left it for the next detour.

What do we want to do? As I already read a "the star" book by accident I'm covered either way! :) Or I don't mind finding something set in Russia, that would be cool too.

message 173: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I already read a book which has a character whose first name is Alex, which I think works for the spell it out. The book is:

Then Came You (The Gamblers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Then Came You
Read: 13 Feb
Fits: Character with the first name Alex

I also have the letter E:
Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Naked in Death
Read: 15 Feb
Fits: Character with the first name Eve

I haven't been adding my extra books to the luggage (oops). I'll add my other books later today. I'm on my iPad right now and it does't like to cooperate with the spreadsheets.

No probs. :)

I added your books in to the provisional list above, and yeah, I would hate to attempt to use the spreadsheet on a tablet, I need the laptop for that.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I think we should do the Spell it since we can complete it and go to the next stop. If everyone is good with it. I'm going to add a few more books to the luggage.

message 177: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I probably read over 10 books before I read my dead author book, so I'm sure I have any letter we need, what do we need? Or I can just post a book that I finished recently :-)
I'm totally fine any which way.
But I really only use my phone, and spreadsheets not my friend on my phone!

message 178: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I'm fine with the doing the spell-it-out. Although it means our visit to Russia will be cut short.

message 179: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (miranda82) | 351 comments so what are we doing at the stop.. I'm sure we have the letters to spell it out ..

message 180: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (miranda82) | 351 comments anyone?

message 181: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) LOL! I'm good with whatever, just tell me what to post :-)

message 182: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Well, its been about 3 days and no one has objected to doing the spell-it-out so I say we go with it.

My only question, are we required to stay at each stop for a week? I thought I remember something about that in the rules, but it may have been for another challenge and i'm too tired right now to re-read the rules.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I'm good with either of the goals. Question do we have to spell out Russia or can we spell out the other one? If I remember for the task we are supposed to look for The Star in the book, right? Ok I'll check in tomorrow morning. I'm beat.

message 184: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments Yeah we do have to stay at each stop a week. I still have to get a book read for Russia though.

message 185: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Ok folks I'll put the spell it for Russia on the spreadsheet. So we just need any book from Berit and Zee and we're done, although yeah, we do have to stay a week at each stop.

I'm guessing everyone wants to do the next detour as it's so easy? First word of the title is "The".

message 186: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Any book? OK I will post when I'm not on the app :-)

message 187: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Berit wrote: "Any book? OK I will post when I'm not on the app :-)"

Yep, we had everything already in the Luggage to spell Russia. :)

message 188: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I swear I am constantly reading books that begin with "the", but all the ones I am currently in the mood for don't, figures. Oh well, it looks like I have some time to get these other books out of my system before settling on a book that fits the next task.

message 194: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments And updated the spreadsheet too. We're finished with Russia now right?

message 195: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) The next detour is the is the first word in the text, not the first word in the title, correct?

message 196: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments It says title on the spreadsheet

message 197: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Thanks! Thought so, but that seemed a little too easy ;-)

message 198: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments I did have to double check! You got me worried that the book I've already finished for it wouldn't actually count haha.

message 199: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Yes, we are done with Russia and off to warmer climes! I think Indonesia will be much hotter than Siberia. :)

I've put a new sheet in and filled it with the books we already had in the luggage for the detour. Please shout if you want to do the spell it instead, or swap your books if you were saving them for something.

We are only missing books from Holli, Berit, and Victoria, and you guys may already have something that works.

Now I really have to look for something beginning with O.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I'll post my book in a second :-)
