Hi guys! Sorry for the late check in. I've been more brain fogged than usual today after a bad bout of insomnia last night. Eeurgh.I like Have Book, Will Travel for a name.
I have a few library books to finish up before I can read something for the challenge. Maybe I'll just wait and see what we need in a couple of days time.
Most of the detours look doable to me, but I would have more difficulty finding a cowboy/cowgirl.
I do like that we can decide our own time frame for this one. :)
If no-one minds, I am going to shamelessly steal Karen's tracking spreadsheet as something to get us started - we can always tweak it and add more pages if we need them. Why reinvent the wheel after all?? Lol.
The Luggage tab seems to have disappeared - I don't think it was me - it seemed like a good thing to have. I might have just crashed Google though, so I'm going to leave well alone for now.
It seems like we have a few people who would like to do the detours since you get more points. I am perfectly ok with that, but my question is: do we have four people with a book with a countryside on the cover? If the mods accept it my book
might fit... But, it's a stretch since the woods aren't exactly what I would call a countryside. If no one has books that fit it, I say we just go for the spell-it-out since it's not as fun if you have to force people to read a book they don't really want to read.It also looks like most of us like the "Have Book, Will Travel" team name. Unless there are any objections, I say we go ahead with it. I think we just need to PM the travel agent, but i'm not sure...
I agree, we should do what is easiest for everybody, I think I might have a book that will work, but I'm not quite sure :-)
Thanks for the spreadsheet help, Sarah :) Unfortuntely, it locks up on me on the very first sheet. Maybe I can enter any books and someone will be nice enough to put them into the spreadsheet for me ;)
I can find a book with a country scene on the cover BUT if only 4 people do the detour it's still the same amount of points for the 6 people doing the spell-out.
The real advantage to the detour is getting the bonus points which requires 7 members to complete. Plus, we can only do a detour on 5 of the 8 stops.
So whatever you guys want to do is fine with me but I'd prefer not to wait too long to figure it out unless we are staying longer than one week.

I agree it's worth picking the detours in advance for max points. I can do a country side cover, I reckon
works (the field at the bottom) unless anyone has an objection.
I tried to find a book to fit the detour & the I in Brazil depending on what we decide to do. You ladies think
would work for country scene on cover?
would work for country scene on cover?
I think both of those books should work for the country scene. I just finished the book I was reading and I am going to start A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson next. It will only work for this if we do the spell-it-out, but I really want to read it. It's pretty short so I will continue looking for books with country scenes to see if I can find one I want to read right after. Although, I'm having a hard time finding any so far.
Since I'm struggling to find a book with a countryside scene I decided to make a list of the detours that do have books I want to read:Read a book with a country scene on the cover
Read a book whose author died 5+ years ago
Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Star" in the text or title
Read a book where the first word of the title is The: The Library at Mount Char
Read a book where the title starts with the letter O: Obsidian
Read a book where a character is a cowboy/cowgirl
Read a book with an alternate history: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Read a book where a girl dresses up as a boy: A Gathering of Shadows or Eon: Dragoneye Reborn
I'll add more as I find them and I may switch some out in the end. This is just to give me (us) an idea of which detours I have books to cover down on.
HI ladies. I'm good either way. I'm still a bit confused on how this works because I haven't had the chance to really read the rules but I'm good with either book. I'm hoping to pop in later but I can't make any promises. RL was backed up and I'm trying to catch up since my return from my own vacay that so happen to be extended due to the snow cancellation. :)
Good morning! My opinion is we do the spell out this time, just because we've already kind of planned it. I can probably do any detour except alternate history, that I might struggle with.
Finished a book for our spell-out:
Finished: 1/30/16
Rating: 3 stars
Used for: Z author - Mitchell Zuckoff
I found a countryside scene just in case, but yes, I think we should stick with the spell-it-out as not everyone can do the detour. I still haven't managed to actually start a book for this yet - I will get there. ;)I've just had another play around with the spreadsheet and added in Holli's book. I've added back a Luggage tab (I must have accidentally deleted it). I'm happy to stop by and add books to the spreadsheet for anyone that can't access it.
I'll pm the travel agent for our team name, I don't think anyone mentioned that they've already done this.
Finished my book today. If someone could please enter it on the spreadsheet that would be fantastic! Thank you & sorry about my difficulty with spreadsheets :(
Book: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Date Read: 1/30/16
Rating: 4.25 stars
Used for: Letter I (Title) or Country scene on cover (?)

Who is good with spreadsheets??? Maybe that person can enter the books, honestly I'm just learning :-)
Hi everybody. I finished my R book Roll Against Regret I posted it in the spreadsheet. I hope thats ok.
Berit wrote: "Who is good with spreadsheets??? Maybe that person can enter the books, honestly I'm just learning :-)"I don't mind entering books, but anyone else is welcome to as well. I've had a play around with some formulas, hopefully nearly everything is working now.
Elle - I put your book in. :)
Thanks so much, Sarah :)
I think we can read anything, Carmen. Although all our books can count from when the team was formed so if they fit any of the future detours that's helpful.
I'm not really sure what we should do with all our read books. I'm a big reader so I don't want to post everything unless it's needed but since we don't know if we are doing detours, spell-outs or locations...well, can we just post books later on if we end up needing them?

SO, I can read whatever I want to for this week??? I'll wait to post my book until Wednesday, in case something needs to be filled in :-)
I will be reading Changeless and it's on the List of Popular Alternative History Books. But it's not shelved on MP only on the 1st page. Does anyone know if that would that count?
That looks like it could be a difficult detour but I didn't realize how many books from my TBR were on this list.

Miranda wrote: "finished Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.. 335 pages .."I just wondered if you wanted to save this for the detour of title starting with O? As the A is pretty easy to cover in Brazil.
Depends if everyone wants to do that detour of course.
Elle wrote: "I will be reading Changeless and it's on the List of Popular Alternative History Books. But it's not shelved on MP only on the 1st page. Does anyone know if that would that count? "Thanks for the list, I found something I already have on the first page, so it was really helpful. :)
The detour doesn't say it has to be shelved as alternate history, just that it has to have an alternate history. The Goals FAQ sheet says:
"It's an alternate history to the one we know. So one in which Hitler rose to power, or the South won the Civil War. "
and also
"It's a different history from the one we know, and can only be our world (no fantasy places/worlds) though the genre could be anything as long as it's set on Earth and is different in a major way to what we know."
Looks like it would fit to me.
I am reading another "O" book by the same author so it doesn't matter to me.. I just picked up my next set of books from the library

Thanks, Sarah :) I did end up finding the Goals FAQ list. Although, I'm not sure my book fits the criteria. The supernaturals are a fantasy element & the inventions are not what I would classify "major", especially when Hitler & the Civil War are listed as examples. But I'm a stickler sometimes so if others think it works, that's great.
Since we aren't posting all our read books, I went & created a shelf, here's the link awtc. Just in case anybody's interested.
Hope everybody's February has started off great!!! Mine's been a tad bit busy so far ;)

I finished a book if we need it for B otherwise you can just use it as an extra book, I'll post it later when I'm not on the app :-)
Berit wrote: "I finished a book if we need it for B otherwise you can just use it as an extra book, I'll post it later when I'm not on the app :-)"We can use yours for the B. I am woefully behind on my reading. My week has been much more hectic then I thought it would be. But, I should still finish my book by the end of this week. Do we have all the letters covered?
We have everything covered but the L now (and the two extra books so everyone in the team has contributed). I think Zee was down for L? Happily the book I've started has an L character just in case - or it can be one of the two extras. I really don't mind where it gets used.
Your book looked interesting Berit, I'll have to see if it's available at my library. :)Sadly not at my branch. Oh well.
It was a really good book, and I'm not a big nonfiction person. At Red very much like fiction, and was extremely interesting.
Miranda wrote: "how did you get the book to link with the spreadsheet?"If you right click on the cell you want to link, select "Insert link", and copy and paste the link into the box which says "link". Easy peasy when you know how. :)
I've been linking to everyone's reviews of their books, but you could just link to the book itself. I don't know if it matters really.
Finished Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir last night, 3 stars. Just figuring out the spreadsheet.
