We can use that part to check off if/when someone completes a goal for that stop.

Okay so are we going with the detour for this week?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Okay, I'm not going to change anything more to the spreadsheet, if anyone one wants to change it that's fine

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Thanks for getting the spreadsheet in order. I'll add a tab for myself later today when I'm at my laptop.

Ok, it sounds like we are going with the detour this round. I was trying to peek at my already scheduled upcoming books to see which one has a character boarding a plane. I haven't stumbled upon it yet, but I'll find one.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I was messing around with my own spreadsheet again, and I came up with 2 different layouts designs. Let me know what you guys think, they are sheets 2 and 3. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I like Sheet two

I'm easy. Both look great. :)

I've finished the book that will work for detour/plane too.

Who else is able to read for the first detour or will we need to do spell-it-out?

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't have any books that take place in a plane at the moment.

message 59: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments I like the second as well.

I actually may be able to do this detour, but I'm not sure if a book I have has a plane scene. Is anyone familiar with Captivated by the Greek by Julia James? Sorry I'm on my phone app so I can't add any links.

If you are reading it on a kindle, you can do a word search for things like plane, fly, or flight and see if any of the words pop up. :) I have a ton amount of books on my kindle, and whenever I need to find certain words or things I do a quick search through my kindle and it will spit out all the books I have on there that I can use. It's much harder to find the stuff in my audiobook and paper library though.

I checked the Amazon Look Inside Feature and it does appear that a character boards a plane.

message 62: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I finished a book which will work for this challenge (started since I was assigned a team).

The Comedians by Graham Greene. A character states he is getting on a plane to go to another island, but it happens 'off-screen'.

The book I started last night, The Other Story by Tatiana de Rosnay has a lot of airplane action.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Okay, I will update the sheet with the new design.

I have finished a book with a plane scene, if you guys like I can add another sheet that shows a spell-it-out and a detour chart of week 1 and what we have read so far then we can go with whatever we want at the end of the week, how does that sound?

message 64: by Plethora (last edited Jan 28, 2016 09:26PM) (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments We can decide to stay more than a week as well if people are needing to catch-up. I had books started before the challenge started so they can't be counted. While I typically read multiple books at once I am pushing to finish those started before the month ends.

message 65: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments I like the idea of tracking both to see which we can get more points for.

Also I agree that we should look into extending atleast this week so that those of us that had a book going already can finish. I'll finish the book I was reading and move on to the one with a possible plane ride tomorrow. I normally would say my next book should only take me 2-3 days, but with my work schedule this weekend it might take longer.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Well it's up to us how long we stay and if it's better for everyone to stay another week in this stop I agree.

message 67: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments Ok two more questions before I'm off to bed.

Does anyone know if we have to do spell it out or set in the country? Like if when we do Oman four people do spell it out could the rest do a book set in oman? That might be difficult but that's the best example I could think of.

And second do we all want to do the luggage thing on the spreadsheet? If so I'm not sure when I will have time to get on the computer before tueday to do it and it's a pain on the phone lol.

I feel like I had a third question in there, but it seems to have grown wings and flown away.

message 68: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments Aha! I remembered it! OK so say someone has a good week and is able to read two books that apply to the stop or detour, but someone else has either a busy week or just doesn't have something that fits. Could one of person A's books count for person B?

OK I promise that's it for tonight.

message 69: by ❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ (last edited Jan 28, 2016 11:57PM) (new)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I think it has to be either the spell-it-out or country I don't think it's both.

When it comes to the countries that don't have a lot of letters (Which for us is Muscat (Oman) and Tomsk (Russia)) the best thing to do is to go with the country setting or the detour, because to get the maxim amount of points is if everyone one contributes but we can't because there are not enough letters.

You don't have to have a luggage sheet if you don't want to, if you want and this goes for anyone, just post the name of the book you finished with a list of character names with it and I can add it to the spreadsheet. Any book can be used so later on even if it don't fit the stop that we are at still post it because we can use it for another stop.

message 70: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments Finished a book last night with "peas' in it a few times. Just in case we decide to use it. I've added it to my luggage page.

How is everyone's reading going? Have a good first month of 2016?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I just finished one that had peas in it to.

My reading is going okay, I've read 19 books this month and I feel like it's going good then I see my reading challenge and it's telling me I'm 2 behind schedule. It's frustrating when you think your on a roll.

Hmm. I don't know. I'd check in at the lounge area that is set up for questions like that. *Fingers crossed*

Andrea (deja05) | 732 comments I finished a book yesterday that has characters getting on a plane. It's called Beating Ruby. I'll see if I can add it to the spreadsheet later today.

Andrea (deja05) | 732 comments So I went on the spreadsheet but I don't have a google account to sign in and edit it. If somebody can put my book in that would be great! Here are the details:

Beating Ruby
Author: Camilla Monk
Fits the "plane" detour but no countries
Characters: Island, Alex, March, Sahar, Phyllis, Joy
Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Chic Lit, Romantic Suspense, Humour

Added it! We have 3 books finished for our first stop! Who else is working on a plane book per chance?

message 78: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I haven't gotten an answer on the Hindenburg so I need to look at the other things I had planned and find one that will work.

I can see why it would work and not work. I suppose it all depends on how laid back our mod leader of the challenge is. :)

I have finished a book with a plane on it.

message 81: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments We could use really bad logic and say that a synonym for airplane is an aircraft and the Hindenberg was an aircraft.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Okay Bookworm your book with the Hindenburg will work for this stop, so you can add it to the spreadsheet.

Sweet. Zeni has a book for plane too she is reading.

If NancyMarie and Michelle can find a plane in their books, then we can get full detour points for our first stop. :) I'm cool with whatever.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Awesome, our first week finishes on the 5th but if we finish all books before then can we move on to our next stop straight away or do we have to wait.

I think we have to stay at each stop at least a week, but we are free to stay longer than a week if we want to finish more books for points.

Go for it! We are all free to update and pretty up the spreadsheet :)

I hope you enjoyed your first book for our trip!

message 91: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments Awesome sauce! Updating now. Also some of the books that are done for the detour can also be done for the spell it out. So I know that most likely we are going for detour on this one, but for futures stops until we know which one we are doing couldn't we post it on both the letter and the detour that way we know which one we are closer to completing for the maximum points that stop?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments We can, let me have a look at the books and see if we can one book from everyone that will fit.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Okay we need an L, O and A for the spell it out.

message 94: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I am working on Flight of Dreams by Ariel Lawhon, this will work for boarding a plane (the Hidenburg).

I did also start A Motor-Flight Through France by Edith Wharton since the challenge started. It will only work for a spell-it-out title when we decide to use it.

message 95: by Zeni (new)

Zeni Taubl | 308 comments Has anyone been to any of these stops or wanted to go to them? And has anyone else looked up more about San Andres Island?

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I have never been to any of them, but I would love to go to New Zealand because I really really want to go to middle-earth/the shire.

message 97: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments I haven't been to any of the locations we are visiting this game. I have been able to travel quite a bit with my family. We make it a point to explore somewhere in the world once a year for a few weeks. It's always my mother, brother, and myself.

Last year I got to pick, and we spent almost a whole month in Italy and Malta. It was magical. The year before was India and Nepal (I almost died when a motorcycle hit me on purpose). We've also been to Romania (INCREDIBLE), China, and Mexico. I think that covers most of them. I've posted a few pics on my goodreads profile too. :)

We haven't finalized where we are visiting this year yet. Leaning towards Peru and Chile I think. Mom is thinking we should backpack through Peru for some reason...I love backpacking with the mongrels and love heat. My brother and mom have never actually done it, so I don't think they understand what she is proposing.

If it was up to me, I really, really want a relaxing vacation on a beach somewhere. Haven't done that for many years. I want to curl up on the beach with some booze and my kindle.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Wow, you have travel a lot, I haven't even been on a plane before.
I can not believe someone hit you with a motorcycle, that's horrible.
I have always wanted to go to Scotland and Alaska, more than anywhere else.
Relaxing on a beach with a good book sounds great.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Wow, would you like to adopt me into your family Daphne. You guys take amazing trips.

I haven't done much traveling. If time, money and safety weren't a concern I would love to visit lots of places that have historical artifacts, the pyramids, European places for their old world buildings (Greece, France, Italy, etc), Australia/New Zealand, take an Alaskian cruise to see the wildlife, glaciers, northern lights. On and on. China has many ancient things of interest.
