I'm just going to have this comment be my personal list of what bothers me most, animal death. I'll add more as I go/remember but it's a small start:

Upsetting Animal Deaths:

Feed (very brutal and sad cat death)
The Snow Child (several animals and most notably a pet fox are killed)
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (violent dog death)
A Game of Thrones (wolf death)
Dead Until Dark (violent cat deaths)

sraxe | 31 comments Hmm...I'll have to look back through my books, by a couple I can remember at the moment:

- The Duke by Gaelen Foley: On-page rape.
- Violated by Jamie Fessenden: On-page rape (I know from the description that rape was part of the story, but I hadn't expected it to be played out in full for the reader.)
- In Want of a Wife by Jo Goodman: Child sexual abuse (view spoiler), with half a page or so playing out one scene.
- Simple Jess by Pamela Morsi: On-page rape/humiliation of a secondary character. Animal deaths (H is a hunter, so it's for food purposes, not sport).

Heather (dokushoka) IDK if I should post spoilers because I don't wanna spoil anything for anyone and have them mad at me.

The one that sticks out to me right now is a lot of violence and the death of a dog in The Knife of Never Letting Go.

Maybe post the title and put it under spoiler tags (<spoiler> ### </spoiler>), and if someone wants to look, they can.

Heather (dokushoka) ^I was thinking of doing that, but I didn't wanna ruin the general vibe of the thread. I overthink things too much anyway.

I just remembered
- The Shining Girls! (view spoiler)
- The Magician King (view spoiler)
- Days of Blood & Starlight (view spoiler)

sraxe | 31 comments Nah, I totally get you. Maybe use spoiler tags for things that happen to specific characters, then? Or just leave it ambiguous (like I did, with saying "on-page rape" but not mentioning who), and if someone asks for more info, then elaborate?

I just read:

- Off the Edge by Carolyn Crane: Torture ((view spoiler))

Fahrenheit 451
-Casual mention of animal abuse, non-graphic animal death for sport

message 9: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I think using spoiler tags is smart!

I knew as soon as the dog appeared they were doomed. This is why I try not to invest in stories with pets.

Jess (jesmy777) Less Than Zero Graphic sexual violence (view spoiler)

message 12: by Heather (last edited Feb 08, 2016 06:15PM) (new)

message 13: by Casey (new)

Casey (casey-h) | 51 comments Nos4ra2 should have about a million trigger warnings. Child abuse, child death (murder), rape (lots), brutal animal death on pages 337-340.
