Please nominate any YA historical fiction that you're interested in reading as a group. Your selections will be put in a poll for all of us to vote on. :-)

Brenda Johnson | 11 comments I would recommend one of two YA historical novels by Canadian author, Karen Bass. Both are available in the US (Amazon and probably other sources too). Uncertain Soldier is set in Alberta during World War II and deals with internment camps of captured Nazi soldiers. Graffiti Knight is set in Germany, just after WWII when Germany is occupied by Russian forces. Both have won numerous awards. I don't know the author but admire all her work.

QNPoohBear | 120 comments I still have a long TBR list of YA books so I am re-nominating:

An Ocean Apart, a World Away
Good Fortune
Incommunicado
Riot

Annelisa | 11 comments I nominate Panic. It's a bit of an unusual read, but it's wonderful.

That sounds interesting, Brenda! I'm not sure if we could have that book as a group read because the selection needs to be easily accessible to our group members (for example, it's available in many libraries). It looks like it's in Canadian libraries but not too many libraries in the U.S. have it. Are there other books that you are interested in nominating for the group read? :-)

Annelisa | 11 comments I just realized that my book choice doesn't count as historical fiction (oops!) so it can be withdrawn from the running. Sorry! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your choices.

Any of your suggestions look great, SJ.

QNPoohBear | 120 comments Code Name Verity sounds very similar to Violins of Autumn which we read recently.

I think we did read Code Name Verity some months ago.

Since February already started, I hope it's all right with all of you if I pick among your selections! I apologize for being tardy with this. Great selections, everyone! :-)

Amanda Catalyst

May I suggest my debut novel!

Escape into a fast‐paced adventure through war‐torn Texas, where action‐filled battles and compelling romance await. Follow a unique young woman’s journey through the dawn of revolution, fiercely motivated by love, loss, and the pursuit of freedom.

Catalyst, the first book in the Hannah Anders trilogy, shows the development of the revolution in Texas up to the brutal siege of San Antonio De Bexar in December 1835. Experience the birth of Texas through the bravery and courage of Hannah, Will, and Morgan and meet historical heroes such as James Bowie, David Crockett, Sam Houston, and Stephen F. Austin.

I would also LOVE to be involved with the discussion and answer any questions readers might have! ;)

Thanks!

Amanda I also just read Passenger that was very intriguing and totally worth a discussion. It is both historical fiction and sci-fi, similar to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander.

QNPoohBear | 120 comments It's snowing so I can't go to get my book at the library. Boo hoo!

Aww! I hope the snow has died down by now :-) I just requested the book (Good Fortune). Hope it comes in soon :-)

QNPoohBear | 120 comments I can get it tomorrow. The library was closed yesterday and it was too cold to go out today.
