Introductions!
Joy, we are so happy to have you! Any friend of Dawn Michelle is a friend of mine! Most members have a goal of 75 books but it is not a necessity. We have a nice group of people here and enjoy sharing books and adding to our lists :)
Welcome to the group, Joy! Thank you, Dawn Michelle, for getting her here! :) We all have personal reading goals, whether they're actually to read 75 books or not. We're more of just a low-key book community. We could change the name but we're pretty comfortable and used to it!

I've always been an avid reader and now that I am retired, I have the time to read the backlog that I accumulated over the years. For me, real books are non-fiction. Mainly History, Science for general public and Philosophy. But nonetheless, fiction is a guilty pleasure in which I indulge for more than half the count. I used to be heavily into Science fiction and fantasy but now i'm more into Mystery, Spy novels and Action.
I usually have three books in working: A paper book taken from my shelves, an electronic one in the iPad and an audio one for late at night. Fiction is usually consumed in audio form.
I'm happy to meet you all. :-)
Welcome to the group, Benoit! I don't think we have any other Canadians, as least not ones who participate often! I also usually have 3 going at once, same formats as you! I have a long commute so I listen to my audiobooks then and while cooking. But I usually have a physical book at home and an e-book on my phone.

Canadian here! Welcome Benoit!

And, Elyse, don't worry. We read the same books as everybody else, in Canada... Inasmuch as anybody reads the same books as anybody else, that is. :-)
Welcome Benoit!! I am actually part French Canadian :) It may good to mention that I have never been to Canada...hahah It's on my bucket list though. I also have several books going at once and wouldn't have it any other way.

We're planning a Nova Scotia trip for this summer. We did Niagara a few years ago, Canadian side.

Elyse, we are probably going to Niagra Falls this summer. Can I touch base with you closer to the event to get some tips?

Sure! I did do reviews on TripAdvisor for everything we did. :) I'm still working on my Hawaii reviews and it's been almost a year. lol

But seriously, I hear this is an awesome group and I'm excited to be a part of it!

Welcome to the group, Misty! Thanks for bringing her in, Carol! :)

I'm from Florida (roughly the Tampa area), and am a senior in high school! After graduating this year, I plan to major in English Literature, and hope to find a job in publishing some day!
I absolutely love reading, and even have my own blog for my reviews (paragraphsandpages.wordpress.com)! I also enjoy videogames (anywhere from rpgs like Skyrim to games like Overwatch) and crafting (I run my own etsy shop where I sell a variety of different phone cases.)
Here is my 2017 post! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Welcome to the group, Meaghan! Wish I was in FL right about now...just got pummeled by 2 huge storms in 4 days here in NH! lol.

Meaghan wrote: "@Elyse Haha but just wait until the unbearable summers! Can't go outside for longer than 10 minutes without sweating :( that, and our crazy storms during the summer too makes it way less desirable xD"
Haha right! There's nowhere that is perfect all the time, I guess!

Welcome to the group, Kedar!

I read about 1 book a day (I read extremely fast it's crazy)
I'm into historical fiction and adult fiction, although I'll pretty much read anything put in front of me if I'm being honest.
I'm also working on becoming a published author, as my book Black and White is well on its way to becoming published by Random House.
I think that's it for now!

I'm Colleen, 40-something. Married with 22 year old twin daughters, one who just graduated from college, one who will graduate in December. I'm a fairly quick reader but terrible about posting reviews, etc. For work, I'm a church administrative assistant. In my spare time, besides reading, I enjoy music and going to rock shows with my husband, and have been dabbling with writing as well. We also have a lab mix named Guinness, he's 10 but we got him from the Humane Society so we've only had him a couple of weeks.
Happy reading everyone!

I met Elyse through a readathon reading group I moderate, that she joined, and she posted a link to this group on our facebook page (Shadow Reading Lounge). I read over 100 books per year when I am not really trying, so I set my Goodreads goal at 300 this year. Last year I fell just 8 books short of 300, so maybe this year...
I have 2 cats, Roland and Sasha, who are my loyal reading buddies, and I foster feral or abandoned kittens occasionally, so I have extra reading buddies/lap warmers sometimes. I'm an unemployed 'writer' with a book and music blog, so I have plenty of time to read, but not much money. I have 3 college degrees, in psychology, ecology and political theory, but I also have a disability that makes finding jobs hard. Some day, maybe, I'll figure out how to start a bookshop, alone or with a business partner who is better at the business side than I am.

World traveler, that's awesome! I've been to Germany, France, England (Scotland, Ireland when I was 3), a few islands in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Toronto, and then almost all states on the East Coast but that's it. Hoping to do more traveling! Headed up to Montreal next weekend.

Hi, I am Juli. I am a 33-year-old neuroscience nerd from Germany. I currently live with my husband, our three dogs, and one cat in Nashville, TN. I always love reading and knitting and sometimes the outdoors (particularly rock climbing and camping). I am constantly working on improving my reading and knitting nook in my office and when the mood strikes I garden.
I write a lot for work (science writing) but I would love to write a work of fiction one day. In secret so far, I imagine myself to teach at some liberal arts college during the day and lock myself away with a typewriter at night, preferably in Maine. At times, I dabble in poetry,
I had set my goal to 52 books for this year (I am still nervous about getting in non-science reading) but I have exceeded that number so far. So, now my new goal will be 75 books. Thank you for having me in your group.

My name is Erin. I am 29 years old and I live in Michigan with my husband, two cats, and dog. I love to read in my spare time (mostly mysteries and crime fiction). I work at a Wine and Spirits shop and am a Certified Cider Professional working on studying for my Sommelier certification. I am looking for an active Goodreads good that can satisfy my need for bookish discussion in between my monthly book club meetings. Feel free to introduce yourself to me, ask me questions, or give book recommendations. Happy reading!

Welcome! This is a fun group.

Ohh Elyse, I could easily join you on that ride but my little brain can't handle a lot of that and I stop sleeping. I love the thrill though!

My name is Rafael, I am 30yrs old from the state of TX. I enjoy traveling the world from time to time, if money permits. Currently, I have started to read again; I do not know what happened to me, its like my mind went in some sort of blockage... For a couple of years my mind just couldn't let go (of day to day problems) and immerse itself in a good book. Nevertheless, whatever was perturbing me has ceased. I enjoy reading everything, Historical, sci-fi, thrillers, romance anything that has a good story great characters and a message, I'll give it a read.
I love to learn about culture, spirituality and anything that will let me grow as a human being.
At this moment I am reading books such as: The Shadow of the Wind, The Iliad, and The Internal Silence. I mainly like to read in Spanish, but I've been telling myself to start some books in English, because I feel I need a bit more assurance on my voc. words, ways of expression and grammar.
Thank you for creating this space, and I hope on make good friends along the way.
Good day everyone!

Welcome! And don't worry. Dawn Michelle is right- that "75" started out a numerical goal but has since morphed into a symbol that pretty much translates into "As much as you can, given your specific, current circumstances" ;) The best thing about this group is the great people in it- It never feels like I'm competing against anyone but Father Time, lol! Regardless of reading speed or volume, or even topic, I've noticed that everyone here has the same love of reading that I do so it's always enjoyable for me to check in.
