This book was read to me in the late 50s or early 60s. A small animal (I think it was a mouse) always takes his umbrella when he goes out. And one day it comes in handy when he (and his baby sister??) get stuck (in a junk yard?) under a cup or can. He uses the umbrella to pry the cup/can up enough to escape.
