That sounds interesting.
That sounds interesting.

Wow, I highly recommend "Jane" by April Lindner. I started it on Friday and had a hard time putting it down. Stayed up into the wee hours reading last night until my eyes failed to cooperate. Woke up to the ground covered in snow, decided to skip Church and just finished it! I am now compelled to read Jane Eyre! Definitely a "Good Read".

Stefanie, don't lose hope. If you can't get the suggested titles, look for books by the same author and in the same category, that is what I always do. I also try looking on here for similar books to the library's suggested list. It has paid off every time with gems and discoveries!

Austenland (series) by Shannon Hale (Jane Austen)
Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James (sequel to P&P)
Longbourn by Jo Baker (P&P told by servant)
The Gap of Time by Jeanette Winterson (Shakespeare's A Winter's Tale)
Rosencrantz and Guilderstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard (Hamlet)
Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood (The Odyssey)
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (The Iliad)
Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis (Cupid & Psyche)
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (fairy tale)
March by Geraldine Brooks (Little Women)
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (although the Bible is not a story per se, I enjoyed this retelling)
The Hours by Michael Cunningham (Mrs. Dalloway)
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier (The Odyssey)
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire (Cinderella -- most or all of his books are retellings)
Re Jane by Patricia Park (Austen)
Hopefully someone will get some use out of this list. I subscribe to all of the posts but rarely comment.

The Girls at the Kingfisher Club (retelling of 12 Dancing Princesses fairy tale)
Clockwork Fairy Tales: A Collection of Steampunk Fables
The Stepsister Scheme (fairy tale reinterpretation - really fun one)
The Eyre Affair
Sold for Endless Rue (Rapunzel with a historical fiction twist)
Miss Alcott's E-mail: Yours for Reforms of All Kinds

I read this one as well (as an audiobook) and really enjoyed it too.

That looks quite interesting! I have added it to my 'to read' shelf and also placed a hold for the audiobook, since I'm participating in another challenge which has a tickbox for an audiobook. I typically don't have the patience for audiobooks but this one is only 3 hours and sounds interesting enough to capture my attention! I'm glad I came across your post!

I've added The Penelopiad to my list. I found the summary here on Goodreads quite enticing and I'm looking forward to it! I'm also a little relieved that it's a short book, compared to what I've been digging my hooks into lately. Thank you for the additional recommendations!
