SOLVED. Syfy book about training on the moon [s]

This was a paperback i read in the 90's about a person who went to i think is an acadamy on the moon for starship training. I think the main person had a hard time with math. During this book mars revolts so they let all the students from mars go home if they wanted. That is all i reamber
