Stacy Benedict | 47 comments For this I read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It's a good book, and I will probably read the others in the series. It was just way too long! I love reading. I'm a reader. I didn't lose interest in this story. I just lost interest in reading this book. It also borders on YA, which I'm not a fan of. Still an excellent story. She really knows how to paint a picture and invoke all of your senses in doing so. I could see, smell, and feel everything as it was happening. Such a rare treat!

Kristin (kristinorlando) | 5 comments I really loved Discovery of Witches. It reminded me of the Tamora Pierce(sp) books that I devoured as a tween.

Melody | 16 comments For this topic, I read His Majesty's Dragons by Naomi Novik, which is the first book in the Temerarie series. The series is a historical fiction fantasy series, that asks "What would the Napoleonic Wars have been like if Dragons were real?". I picked it up because it's my roommate's favorite series and he is kind enough to lend me his books. They are pretty fantastic. Naomi Novik is a fantastic writer and it reads a bit like Jane Austen meets Treasure Island meets Eragon. I certainly highly recommend it. I've already started the second book in the series!

Stacy Benedict | 47 comments Kristin I just saw your comment about Discovery of Witches. So sorry. Not sure how I missed it. I've never heard of that author but will keep in mind! Thanks!

Melissa (mkowalewski) | 7 comments If you haven't read Outlander that;s also a good one.

Jennie (tangledupinblue) | 65 comments Girl Waits with Gun was recently recommended to me and I just discovered it's the first in a series, so I'm planning on that for this task.

message 8: by Teresa (new)

Teresa I read Red Rising. Great story. I'll definitely continue with the series.

message 9: by Constanza (new)

Constanza (unaconicualquiera) I read The Queen of the Tearling and it killed me, i had to read the second the minute i finished it. I wasn't too sure about reading it, because the reviews are really mixed, but i found it amazing, a perfect mix of a fantasy and dystopian setting.

message 10: by Riah (new)

Riah | 23 comments I read Alanna: The First Adventure, which I'd heard really good things about, but I was just not impressed. I had a lot of problems with it, enough so that I almost certainly won't read the rest of the series. So disappointing, because a ton of people love it, so I was expecting a lot better.

Sheila Glenn-McVay | 4 comments I was intrigued by the uproar made by Elena Ferrante's fans when her identity was revealed, so I read My Brilliant Friend. I love it so much I'd be on to the 2nd book of the Neoplatonism series if I didn't have a book club book to get to.

(thank you autocorrect)

Natalie (naterby) | 23 comments I read Unwind for this task. The entire premise of the book is a bit horrifying. I don't usually like to read book series, but I'm seriously considering reading the next two of this one.

message 14: by Julie (new)

Julie (julieannie) | 13 comments I never got ahold of a copy of the last book of the Unwind series but they take it down other paths just as/more horrifying. Totally worth it to follow up if you have the time.
