Main character moves to another town and meets a family with the last name "weed" and their first names are all flowers. Their mom names them after flowers to make up for their last name.

Is this a picture book or a chapter book with mostly words?
What's the tone - funny, coming-of-age, angsty, etc.?
Read this between 1990-1993; chapter book; I remember very little but I'm thinking it is most likely a coming-of-age story. I remember crying at the end but I can't remember why. Not sure target age but it was in the library at my elementary school.
There is a scholastic paperback called Poppy and the Outdoors Cat about a large family where all the kids were named after flowers. I don't know if their last name was Weed.
Hmm- I looked that up but that's not it, it says her last name is Flowers. In this book, the weed family were secondary characters and I think they may have been poor. I can't remember the main character's name but I kind of remember her being new to the place where most of the story takes place - perhaps on summer vacation or something?

The girls in school were Daisy, Rose, and Tulip; the boys were Clover, Birch, and Goldenrod. I secretly admired the spunk of Mrs. Weed to give her children such names. Seems like she brooded on the condition of her life and a name like Weed, and not being able to do a thing about it, she decided to give her children something special.
