Davina, I just finished it this afternoon. It's two stories connected by Aunt Sadie's Cafe. I really liked the first one. As a writer, I was impressed by the set up of tension and the relationship between the main character and the setting, her great aunt's cafe. The second story is about the secondary characters in the first. It moved a little too fast but I think KKT is very good at writing sex scenes. I would definitely recommend it.

The Reader by Bernhard Schlink - About a relationship between a 30-something year old woman and a 15 year old boy. Their relationship ends without closure for him and years later he's still impacted by his relationship with this woman. Eventually things come to a head when he recognizes her in a courtroom, where she is on trial for a horrible crime.
Candide by Voltaire - Focuses on the life of an illegitimate nephew of a German Baron.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde - Relates the story a man who wishes for eternal youth and how it corrupts him once fate grants his desire.

So, I just finished reading What White Boyz Ride and loved it. Does anyone know of any other IR short story collections?
I am now reading Scream My Name by Kimberly Kaye..."
You know what? I really couldn't get myself to like Liza in PMH at all, either.
I didn't let that turn me off from KKT completely, though. Just Like Candy was a much better book, IMO (Liza from PMH does reappear in it, and so does Karina from DOAL). I haven't read Scream My Name, but it's in my TBR pile.

Candide is also funny and clever. Good stuff.

I like the creepy stuff. I'm not so into the bleak debauchery, though. I guess that's why I've been putting it off. I like an upbeat ending. I'm pretty weird. I like dark and kinda twisted but I want a happy ending. LOL.

Their relationship starts out being based solely on sex, and over the course of the novel he begins to have unrealistic expectations of a future with her. I haven't gotten to part two of the book, yet. So, I'll let you know how it goes.
As I was checking out at BN the cashier told me that she just couldn't get into it. And she thought that it was more his writing style than anything.

LOL. It's not really creepy and bleak because of the debauchery but because of the ending. The message is shallowness = you're doomed, LOL.

Oooooh. Thanks Giselle. I'll wait and see what you think of the second part while I keep it on hold. I can definitely understand the cashier's mention of the writing style because sometimes that keeps me from getting into a book also. But I'll put this in my "maybe" file for now.
Much appreciated! :-)

Okay. I'll read this one when I'm feeling philosophical (which isn't that often :).

Honestly, I think that's why I can't get into the story. I hate to leave any book unfinished, so I'll be finishing it but it might take me a while.

I could not agree more. I find a woman seducing a young boy pretty objectionable (no less than a man seducing a young girl).

JAJ I think I missed your email about Delaney's Desert Sheikh. I love that book. My favorite Westmoreland book as well. I wish she'd write some more with Middle Eastern heroes. :)

Good review! Now I see why you rated the book that way lol.
I've only read one Jade Lee book. The Concubine which was a Blaze and it was interesting but not spectacular. I liked the Chinese cultural bent but the story could have been a bit better (and I wish it was longer and more in depth for the time but it was a category). I wanted to try more of her longer works to see if they were better but I may have to do some digging.

In that case, you'd probably find it interesting. Was interesting but could have been better.

On audio, I'm listening to Time Traveler's Wife, Outlander and The Help all at once! So far they're not very engaging but eveyone says listen on because they get better.

So you didn't like Blue Skies? Why was it a wallbanger, Davina? JAK does overdue the mystery. I read one of her historicals that was the same way (Amanda Quick).

I have a couple Cindy Gerard books on my TBR. How is To The Edge so far?

I'm into a few pages. So far, so good.

I read your rant. Everything you're saying makes sense. I don't think a woman should ever give up responsibility for her own actions and her body to a man. If she goes into sex, she should do it with her mind aware of all the consequences. I don't think having sex with someone who is totally drunk is a good idea anyway.

Ladies, the library sent me an email letting me know that Hot Pursuit was ready to be picked up. Wow, I'm special, because I'm the first to get the book. Someone else had gotten to audio book. I don't get those. I had a chance to go get the book on my break. I can't wait until I get home.
So, you ladies know what that means. I will be deep in this book, loving my Sam and I have to say, for the little that I have read on my lunch break, Sam is sizzling.

LOL, I'm pleased for you, Arch.
Is this a whole new book about Sam & Alyssa or are they just making appearances?
Can't wait to hear what you think about it. You'll probably just love it no matter what! lol

I'm happy to be reading about Sam and Alyssa. I'll post a spoiler review on here, but get deep on my blog.

Sam and Alyssa are the lead, but let me say, it's not Gone Too Far. They aren't really walking in romance shoes. I'm only on page 168. Gillman is in the second romance category and it seems as if he's getting more book time. I guess, because he has to find his HEA.

I love to read about IR best friends. Shawn and Gus are IR best friends from the show Psych. Shawn is white and Gus is black. Those two men are a fun pair as well.
