December is a very changeable month for many for a variety of reasons. Michaela next year I hope to continue reading some Virginia Woolf--a few more selections--so keep a lookout here if you are interested. Be well.

Mods, may Irphen and I have a buddy read thread for The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole to start January 15th and to last for one month? As usual, anyone and everyone is welcome to join in. This is a good read for those who appreciate Jane Austen, would like to read the horrid novels but can't commit to 500-page novels. The text of Otranto is just over 100 pages.

It's been a while since I tried reading Woolf - would be nice to join you.
However, I do not know how swarmed I'll be by february. Everything here is on lockdown till the end of the month and it is likely that this situation will continue in february (until we reach the indicator of 50/100 000 per week). But if the lockdown is lifted I'll have to work double and won't be able to join you.

Lilly, come join in of you can. If not, we may yet be reading other Woolf works later. We have been reading at the rate of a new selection every 6 weeks or so. So look out for upcoming selections. So check in about the end of February to see what we will be reading mid-March.

You tempt me. I read a fair bit of Plato in university, but I have plenty to go. Some years back I got the complete works (the Cooper edition, if that means anything to you), but I haven't gotten around to reading it. Do you seek to read everything, or just his main dialogues? I'm game if you don't set to high a pace. Plato should be savoured, contemplated, and discussed. (Also, I have a lot of other books on my plate.)

Cynda and Leni, a slow pace is fine with me. How slow?

Looking at the lengths of various dialogues, chunks of 20-30 pages seems a good way to measure. Some can be read in one sitting, others in two, or in the case of the Republic, each "book" in the Republic is 20-30 pages long.

How would you feel about...20-30 pages per week? per two weeks? per month?

As far as which ones to read, the Complete Works is just too long for me to commit to. Perhaps the three of us could establish a list of dialogues we each want to read. If 2 or 3 people want to read it, it goes on the list. Does that sound like a good plan?
