Buddy Read? Requests here!
Adrian, I just got the book and I'm ready to start. Do you want to read 4 chapters a week or more/less?
Kim wrote: "Adrian, I just got the book and I'm ready to start. Do you want to read 4 chapters a week or more/less?"I'll need to see how long the chapters are, but that sounds reasonable. I can start tomorrow, but it will have to be before work.
Hello. How do I start a buddy read at Catching Up? I would like to read De Profundis by Oscar Wilde. Do I gather reading friends or do I just request?
Anyone interested in doing a buddy read for East of Eden, Sophie's Choice, Look Homeward, Angel, or What Maisie Knew?
Cynda wrote: "Hello. How do I start a buddy read at Catching Up? I would like to read De Profundis by Oscar Wilde. (We use existing discussion threads for books that have been read as a group before, but that doesn’t apply to De Profundis.)
Thanks Pink. I am requesting a buddy read for De Profundis. I would like to read in September or October, anytime really. Anyone interested in reading together?
I have been wanting to read Look Homeward Angel forever! I probably can't fit it in until November December though.
Sue wrote: "I'd be up for De Profundis if it's October."Thanks Sue! October would be better for me too. (In this group how many readers dowe need before starting a buddy read thread?)
No problem Sue....I can wait until November or December to read Look Homeward Angel. Just let me know when you're ready.
Kathleen wrote: "I'm definitely interested in De Profundis in October!"Yea :-) more readers. I will start a thread.

a change of plan re message 1520, Emily Wilson's The Odyssey I'm moving from Sept to Oct to read The Iliad translated by Fagles in Sept instead.
Good to know Inskspill -- I may join you as I haven't read either of those translations. The nice thing is that we already have group threads for those books, so we can add our thoughts anytime.
Holly wrote: "No problem Sue....I can wait until November or December to read Look Homeward Angel. Just let me know when you're ready."We can also try nominating it for the group reads in those months and then do a Buddy read if it doesn't make it. I think I nominated it once a long time ago. Nominations are hit or miss depending on people's mood and what else is nominated, but it's worth another try!
Cynda and I have discussed reading Aristotle'sPoetics in September. Can we have a buddy read thread for it, or be directed to a past thread if there is one? Thanks!Any one else who might be interested is more than welcome to join us. I'm very excited to start!
I’ve created the buddy read thread for Poetics, here’s the link https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Diana wrote: "Anyone wants to read Balzac's Lost Illusions?"Definitely on my TBR. It is in three parts, so it can be a three-month read.
Two Poets. Lost Illusions Part 1
A Distinguished Provincial at Paris. Lost Illusions Part 2.
Eve and David. Lost Illusions Part 3

I will be starting The Testaments by Margaret Atwood in a few days. I will be happy to buddy read it. But I will read in in any case. I have read The Handmaid's Tale many years ago and NOT seen the TV series.
Sounds good! My vague idea is to start in a few days and finish in 2-3 weeks. How does that sound to you? I need to finish before Nov 14th (it is a library book).
J_BlueFlower I read the first chapter a week ago but put it on hold in order to finish another book. I'm ready to go when you are :)
Brina and I have discussed reading Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré in January 2020. It was a group read last Fall, but we both missed reading it then. Anyone else interested in joining?
A few of us were going to be reading Eventide in the second half of December. Did anyone start a thread yet?
Lynn wrote: "Brina and I have discussed reading Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré in January 2020. It was a group read last Fall, but we both missed reading it then...."Yes, I missed the group read too. I'd be up for this.

Thanks Sara! I'll start probably the latter half of next week.
About Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré. Welcome Christopher. I am glad you will be joining us. Thank you Don for the informational link,
Shirley & I will be reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London starting January -- so next week. Feel free to join with us.
I can't believe that we don't have any Jack London on our shelves.
We will be using this thread for the discussion: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have put up a thread for Benediction by Kent Haruf to begin in January. I hope everyone who read the first two books will be there and that anyone else interested will join right in.
And I have put up a thread for The Little Drummer Girl by John le Carré to begin in mid-January. Everyone is invited who would be at all interested.
Pink, would you be kind enough to put them on the schedule? Many thanks.

Pink,Sue and I would like to schedule a buddy read for Dubliners in June. We hope that others will join in as well. When should I ask you to set up the buddy read thread for June?

Just to point out that Bat-Cat posted this in March 2016! Of course there may be others who want to join in with these?! :)
I’ve added Benediction, The country Girls and The little drummer girl to the schedule for January with links to the discussion threads. I’ve added Dubliners to the schedule for June. So far it hasn’t been a Group Read, so there are no existing discussion threads. It may be nominated for a Group Read before June, otherwise a buddy read discussion thread can be created nearer the time, either by myself or members are free to create their own discussion threads, as long as they don’t already exist for the chosen book.
I’ll wait and see if there are others interested in Jaws.
Let me know if I’ve missed anything.
Any admirers of Jacqueline Kennedy? When she and sister Lee were still single, they convinced their parents to pay for a tour of Europe. As a gift of appreciation for their parents, they created a lovely memory book of vignettes, verse, drawings, pics, etc.Would anyone be interested in reading One Special Summer by the then-Jacqueline Bouvier and the then Lee Bouvier?

That's funny because I've actually read Frankenstein before, too. I was just fine was with re-reading it. Kidnapped it is. Let me know when you start it.
