Without George R.R. Martin there would be nothing for him to adapt.
Also, with Martin not having the primary role, it means that even though the story is a George R.R. Martin story, it isn't counted towards the tally for your Most Read Authors statistic.
Sounds kinda hokey to me.

The Twilight graphic novel https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... has Stephanie Meyer, the original author, in the primary role.
Or this Edgar Allen Poe book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... where Poe is given the primary role.
It's just strange how the adapter gets more credit for the book when they're using the original story verbatim. If they were changing it or adding to it, I could understand but not when it's the exact same story.
At the very least they should bring it in so that ALL the authors count towards your Most Read Authors thing.

Goodreads policy is that when there is a single adapter, they get placed as primary author. This is not a question of "more credit"; it's a method which reduces accidental combining of adaptations with their originals.
The Poe book has multiple adapters. I am working on the Meyers book.

This is a technical limitation, and not something librarians have any control over. However, the system is set up to deal with primary author differently, so it's probably not an easy thing to change.

If it were truly verbatim, I would probably agree with you. If the text of one of George Martin's books were reprinted in a graphic novel - with the only addition being the graphics - then it would be by George Martin, with a secondary credit to the illustrator.
But the book you linked to has an adapter. If the text is truly verbatim, what did that adapter do? He had to do something, otherwise he wouldn't get a credit on the book cover and title page. You don't add a name to the cover and title page for absolutely no reason.
Without him, there would be no book.
Also, without him in the primary slot, this book doesn't count towards readers 'most read authors' tallies.
