♥ Joy Joy ♥ (joylia) Hellos Hellos! Here's my bombardment of books read that I think maybe might be of interest :D

Bayou Bear Chronicles series by Lila Felix - Paranormal shifter series that started off pretty interesting and promising but (in my opinion) fell flat the following books after. Still putting it out in case any other shifter fans might end up liking it more than I did.

Burden (Bayou Bear Chronicles, #1) by Lila Felix

============================================

Star Witch (The Lazy Girl's Guide To Magic #2) by Helen Harper - 2nd book in Helen Harper's newest series (The Lazy Girl's Guide to Magic). The first book was decent, though a little awkward. And I was on the fence with this new MC. By the end of the first book, I did like her but felt the depth was lacking.

The 2nd book was a lot better and the writing flowed much more smoothly. Although I wouldn't say I "love" the MC (Integrity 4 Ever :P), I did find her a lot more easy to connect and thought the depth of the character showed a lot better in this book than the first.

The story was very interesting and definitely has me looking forward to the 3rd book.

===========================================

Tycoon Takedown (Lone Star Burn, #2) by Ruth Cardello - listened to the audio version and loved it. Listening to the 3rd book right now and have to say that after loving the first two books of the Lone Star Burn series - the 3rd is a disappointment to me in both story and narration. Maybe the story (at the least) will improve before it's all said and done..hopefully.

===========================================

Curse the Day (Spellbound #1) by Annabel Chase - Finished the first book of the Spellbound series yesterday and really liked it. Just putting it out there but will probably revisit whether I'd recommend or not after a couple more books.

===========================================

Kings of the Wyld (The Band #1) by Nicholas Eames - 5 STARS
(Warning - this is an epic fantasy, but really good. Also, due to a few reviews, I thought this was some sort of modern day take of things with a heavy metal band. It's not. lol. It took me part of the first chapter to really let go of that preconceived notion and just allow myself to enjoy the book)

Endings and Beginnings by Nora Roberts Endings and Beginnings by Nora Roberts in paperback. Finished 07\22
Liv Carmichael is the co-anchor in Washington D.C., trying to make a spot for herself and name for herself. T.C Thorpe is the top Washington correspondent with the same network and a huge thorn in Liv's side, always stealing her chances of top stories from her. Both very ambitious, professional and headstrong. Thorpe is good looking and arrogant. Thorpe has been attracted to Liv for a long time. Major stories in their profession causes them to be together a lot. Tensions, attractions and romance boils between them. I enjoyed the characters and the story line. Again...got bored of the constant dialogue of lighting up of Thorp's cigarette. A fun, fast read. 4 stars

When Shadows Fall (Callaways #7) by Barbara Freethy When Shadows Fall by Barbara Freethy, e-book on loan from Library. Finished 07\23
Olivia Bennett is a biographer and has been invited by Molly, Eleanor Callaway's best friend to come to San Francisco to write about the older women's story and secret. Colton Callaway has been put in charge from his grandfather to keep this writer away from Eleanor. Eleanor, suffering from the beginning stages of Alzheimer gets easily agitated and Colton's grandfather claims he doesn't want her upset. There are secrets galore with these women and in this family. Molly who has suffered a stroke right before Olivia's arrival can't tell the story, but Eleanor, on her good days, wants it to be told. This is an amazing, suspenseful, romantic story. One of the best in the series. The characters are so strong and believable and story line will amaze you. More than 5 stars

Somewhere Only We Know (Callaways, #8) by Barbara Freethy Somewhere Only We Know free paperback from author. Finished 07/29
Burke is the oldest Callaway son and has always been an over achiever, elusive and troubled. He closed off his heart after the death of his fiance' 3 years ago in a tragic and suspicious automobile accident. An acquaintance from his past has out of the blue shown up into his life, crashing in, as is so typical Mattie. Mattie Heller is fleeing from an ex-fiance who took all of her hard earned money to pay off gambling debts. He now is calling her for more money and has loan sharks after her. Mitch Warren is a fire chief where Burke's brother Colton works. Mitch has hated Burke and had a vengeful vendetta against him since Leanne's death. Mitch claims is was Burke's fault she died. Now he has hired a private investigator to get all the details of her death. Fists are flying, places are burning, dead flowers are showing up and Mattie and Burke are trying to put it all together. Their attraction for each other that has been pushed aside for years is blooming though it all. This is the last in the series and the ride has been spectacular. I have enjoyed the suspense, mystery, romance, love of family and lost loves coming together. Excellent series!! 5 stars

The Knight and the Damsel (Rodeo Knights, #2) by Margaret Daley The Knight and the Damsel book 2 of the Rodeo Knights series on Kindle. Finished 08/01
In book # 2 Michael Knight is leaving his ranch to help his brother to go undercover to help find out who is sabotaging the rodeo circuit by poisoning rodeo animals. Michael has retired from the rodeo but is coming back to cover as a bullfighter. Bella is trying to make her way in the bull riding circle after her father disgraced himself years before and Bella having to compete against some sexist male bull riders. Bella is finding that someone is tampering with her equipment and horses she rides. The two of them need to find out if it is all tied into the poisoning or if someone just wants to get the female rider out of the circuit. Feelings start to grow between them but Michael has no desire to follow the circuit again, and Bella's ride is just starting. This was a good book to read although I felt Michael's character was rather vague and sappy for being a big male bull rider. I expected him to be more macho. 4 stars

Diamond In The Rough (The Men of Medicine Ridge, #3) by Diana Palmer Diamond In The Rough by Diana Palmer in paperback. Finished 08/02
A typical rag to riches story where John Callister doesn't feel the need to tell the community that he is a multimillionaire taking over some property him and his brothers have just purchased. Sassy is a poor 19 year old (to John's 31) working in the store of a sexual harasser trying to care for her mother dying of cancer and a small child who they took under their wings. Jake and Sassy become taken with each other even after she discovers he is richer than dirt. I have read other Diana Palmer books and have enjoyed them. I found this one very unrealistic (a 19 and 31 year old?) and the dialogue between the characters was so "sappy". Thank goodness it was a short story. It just didn't come together for me. 2 stars
