What Are You Reading, Nora and Beyond?

I am reading this as a review from the author. Olivia is the last of the sisters who is not or will be getting married. She has no trust or faith in love and has a very harsh idea of marriage. So it is quite a surprise when she gets Alejandro Mendoza to be her pretend boyfriend to persuade her sister Sophia who has suddenly gotten cold feet a week before her wedding, that love isn't as horrendous as she once thought it was. Alejandro is suave, sexy and very ready to take on this role. Once Sophia finds out about the ruse, Alejandro asks Olivia to marry him to get Sophia back on track and to the altar. This farce goes on and on. Until....they start to actually fall for one another. I loved this story and it was a fast read. I just feel that it would have been better to read this series in order as I was lost on how all these families fit together. I plan to start and read up. A very sweet, romantic, entertaining book. 5 stars
I finished A Notion of Love by Abbie Williams, Shore Leave Cafe #3, and really liked this story, especially how it was presented. Here's my review.
I also finished listening to Columbine by Dave Cullen, a really extraordinary account of the mass shooting in 1999. Here's my review.
I'm now listening to Unspeakable by Laura Griffin, Tracers #2, and reading Little Mercies by Heather Gudenkauf.

I just quit 80 pages into a crap kindle read so now I'm looking for something that is already on my kindle to read during the last hour of work. Earlier today I finished Rules of Play: Opposites Attract / The Heart's Victory by Nora so I checked 2 more stand-alones off my list.

Mrs. Pollifax Series - great adventure/spy series featuring a senior citizen with a lot of spunk and smarts. Highly recommend!

Harrison Investigations series - really interesting supernatural thriller series. There are 8 in this one and it continues on with her Krewe Hunter series

Overall, it was a pretty easy and enjoyable read. I really want to continue on with the series because the author did a really good job dropping little tidbits to hook you (in regards to the other brothers' stories).

Cooking With The Dead

I was asked to read this for a review and I don't like NOT liking a book, but this one is one of them. The story line was fun and interesting but the writing was awful. It had no flow to it and no descriptions of people, places and situations. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn't get off. The characters were weakly defined, without reading the first book I was lost. All the sentences were short and rigid. Like, "see Dick, see Dick run." etc. Not sure if I will read the others or not. Sorry! 2 stars

I was asked to read this book for a review by the author. Callie Dalton has run back to her home town of Shellwater Key after her evangelist husband of a huge empire has been arrested for embezzlement and fraud and then dies before sentencing. She has been emotionally and mentally abused not only by her late husband, but by everyone he stole money from and the whole world it seems. Her first hurdle is walking into the house where haunting memories lie regarding the death of her mother. Noah Johnson is known to be an angel in town, always helping out and rescuing people. But he has some ghosts and baggage from his past. Noah is the carpenter for the Paradise Dinner Theater that is owned by one of Callie's old best friend Layla and is helped being run by her other best friend Emma. Through all the renovations Callie and Noah have found chemistry between them and the reuniting of best friends, pasts healed and new beginnings. I loved this story and the characters. It was such a touching, emotional and inspirational story. I have not read all in this series. This book can certainly be read as a stand alone book. I can't wait to read more. 5 stars

Did not like either of those reads. The Cowboy Bear's Fate was too rushed and felt, for lack of better wording, half assed. The characters were shallow and the book just didn't have a good flow.
And for Immortal Ops...I really didn't like it. Everything I said about Cowboy Bear's Fate applies to this book on a much more annoying level.
It was just so....fake. I know it's fiction so of course it's not real, but even in fantasy there has to be a certain level of realism.
Or if it's going to reach "absurdity"...you need to invest in it fully and make it believable...or at least make the characters believable. There was a real lack of depth in any of them.
It was just so much "stuff" all thrown into together that at one point I found myself literally gritting my teeth as I forced my way through it.
(I hadn't written a review but going to copy and paste what I said and put it in there. Haha. )
So yesterday was bad choice book day. But today...woohooo!! Got a couple winners!

I finished listening to Unspeakable by Laura Griffin, Tracers #2, and it was disappointing. Not sure if it was the narrator or the story and the narrator but I was underwhelmed. Here's my review.

A light-hearted, entertaining romance. Lauren has just been divorced, her hypochondriac father has moved in with her, she has just received a dilapidated barn and merry-go-round in a swamp from her divorce judge and her ex seems to be now showing and doing his laundry at her place by invitation of her father. She is a smart, well educated, ambitious lawyer who's life is a merry-go round in itself. Her receptionist is now fooling around with her dad, and her first stab at dating again is a sexual and emotional disaster. Lauren has had to open her heart and mind not only regarding others but herself. What she finds is a comical, yet emotional eye opener. This was such a heart warming, fun book. One that was hard to put down. Made me laugh and cry. 5 stars

All He Ever Desired - My Review
Conspiracy in Death - didn't do a review for this but I will say I gave it 5 stars because yes, it was that AWESOME.
My only issue I had was that I really wished a certain someone hadn't died. Not because I thought the raving bi*** deserved to live, but rather because I would have loved to have read about her getting her comeuppance.
Then again, I guess how she died could be seen as karma. *sniffs* Still doesn't seem like enough to me. *shrugs*

Emma has come to Shellwater Keys after getting a call from her mother that her father and stepmother have been killed in a car accident. After her father left her and her mother for another woman years ago, she has had little contact with him and has been seldom back. She makes it back just in time to literally run into her fathers law-partner at the funeral who is less than excited to see her. She finds out the same day that her father listed her as guardian for her two step daughters and that she has chosen hardly know. Not only does Emma no nothing about parenting, but she resents that the two girls were more a part of her father's life than she was. The two girls absolutely love Reese Cassings and aren't too thrilled that he is not going to be guardian. Emma's mother, Mary, will stay with them to help Emma get her feet planted. Mary hasn't been back since her husband left her for another woman one Halloween. Reese is constantly making snide remarks and looking over Emma's shoulder with he girls. Reese and Emma hide behind their so-called dislike and distrust with each other for other feelings that are brewing between them. Emma's escape in all this chaos is being newly hired as the main chef for the rejuvenated play house that her best friend Layla is in charge of. I absolutely LOVED this book. I am reading them out of order, but this a stand alone book. The characters are strong and well defined. A story of love, forgiveness, trust and putting the past where it belongs. More than 5 stars!!

It's a dark psychological thriller and I enjoyed it. I posted a review last week https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
First book read by Mary Burton and I'll be going back to read some more. Great mystery/suspense novel.

Haven't read one of her books in a long time. This series always makes me swoon and laugh right out load. Lula decides she is going to send a tape to Naked & Afraid for bungee jumping with Randy Briggs? Stephanie Plum is again after one of her skipped bonds and after chasing one in a semi, a man who is frozen, covered in chocolate and peanuts rolls out of it. She is in her on again, off again engaged to being engaged to Morelli and working with the allusive, hotter than hell Ranger. Is Stephanie ever going to actually pick just one, or just keep sleeping with them both? Lucky lady!! I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for another. 5 stars
