OK, I am going to lower the tone, I am reading a fantasy series. Terry Goodkind's The third Kingdom.
I'm going to lower it even farther. I've been reading period noir fiction again:
and kids' books:
due to insomnia.
Just Finished
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett......which was excellent, as always with Ken Follett, but I'm really surprised that one rather large event in WW1 was glossed over so casually. It just plain and simply mentioned, in passing, almost - that the Tsar was dead. It said absolutely nothing about the massacre of his family and servants in the basement of the house in Ekaterinberg. Very Surprising as it would have been interesting, given the tone of the rest of the book, to see his take on the happenings.
Just Started
The Physician by Noah Gordon
In my first review of 2016 I look at the collection of Lovecraftian themed short stories Lovecraft Unbound, there's some good stories in there, but it has a number of issues too:

I've just finished reading Jonathan Hill's latest novella The Anniversary and it's up there with his best - highly recommended. You can read my review here:

You're too kind :-)
They're different stories set in the same universe - it's the universe the game I'm working on is set in.

A delightful tale.
Now I am starting :

Last year, I did not read much. I realise how ..."
You Grumpy Frenchie, never my dear.
Sherri, I agree with you on this book. I have read it every two to three years since I first go it when it first came out in paperback, a long long long long time ago. I have also read the unabridged version which added about 170 more pages. Frenchie you will love I promise. It is Stephen King at his absolute best.
I've just finished reading The Long Mars by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter - it's far from a great read, but I am enjoying the series:

Being very naughty again, I have several books in progress because I've been a bit moody and it depends on how I feel or the time of day, what I'm in the mood to read.
Oh the Bain of my existence electronic books, that is tantamount to sacrilege in my view. I am a purist give me books and only books nothing electronic, I will not sully my self with that plastic imitation of something so precious.
My books are on recycled paper... On the flip side, if my book is accidently thrown away it will decompose if the kindle is thrown away it will last forever or near enough.
Nothing can replace the look, feel, or even smell of a new paper book, but on the other hand, if I had the amount of books I have on my Kindle as paper books, I'd fill a rather large space, so there are pro's and con's to both arguments

The paper used for books goes yellowish brown and becomes fragile in a very few years. Also, books are subject to luxury tax of about 30-35%, especially those in English!! Even a battered second hand paperback will run you 10-12 Euros; and that doesn't count a trip to the coastal towns where you can get them, and the fact that your choices are limited to those of the holiday makers who sold them on.
With my ebook I can download a much wider variety and have more books at my fingertips (literally!) than I will probably be able to read in what's left of my lifetime.
I've just posted my review for Andrew Barrett's novel The Third Rule - Part Three: Sacrifices and not only is it a damn fine read, it's a most fitting conclusion to the trilogy. You can read my review here:

I've posted my review for David Haynes' latest release I Can See You and while it's not up there with his best, it's still a superbly crafted ghost story:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've just finished reading Shane Stadler's' Exoskeleton and while it's a bit hit and miss in places, it's still a decent sci-fi horror:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've just posted my review of the Cthulhu mythos themed anthology The Book of Cthulhu. There's quite a few story reprints here so might not offer as much for the experienced reader in the genre, but if you're just discovering the joys of Cthulhu then it's worth checking out:

Here's my review for David Wailing's Auto 2 - it's a fascinating and plausible vision of the future and a great read to boot!
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've done it again, I have 3 books in English and one in French all on the go at once. (The French book is excusable, it's a massive hardback that literally weighs almost 5 lbs. That one's going to take awhile as I can only read it sitting at the table, which is not the most comfortable place in the house). So that's:
and
and:
and, oops, sometimes at night:
I've just posted my review for Kevin Lucia's Through a Mirror, Darkly and it just didn't work for me. There's some good story there, but I found some of the writing style a barrier:

Just finished All the Light We Cannot See. An excellent read. Now I'm starting The One and Only Ivan. It's very depressing. :-(
Just finished The Sanctuary Series, Books 1-3: Defender, Avenger and Champion. Started on Book 4;
. Still trying to get through
and Margaret Atwood's
...I keep going on with the Sanctuary series though...First, because I like to read an entire series all the way through and Second, because I like it!
I've just posted my review for I Met A Demon by Petronela Ungureanu and unfortunately it's a short story that fails to deliver:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've just posted my review for Dark Intelligence by Neal Asher and it's a quality sci-fi read:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Started to read
, but her 'tone of voice' was just to shrill for me! And it didn't get any better the more I read, so....I took it back to the Library! Now reading Brent Weeks
. Much better! :)
Just finished book 13 of the wheel of time Towers of Midnight, and just starting A Street Cat Named Bob.
I've finally read Terry Pratchett's The Shepherd's Crown and while it's not up there with his best, it's still a welcome addition to the Discworld series:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've just posted my review of Jacob Prytherch's The Binary Man and it's not my preferred flavour of sci-fi, but still a decent read:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've just posted my review for David Staniforth's novel VOID and it's a stunning read:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished Ben Bova's
, and am now reading
! Why do I choose such big books with too many pages????Finally finished
! Wow! What a long book...my nook showed over 2000 pages!
I've just reviewed Devil's Day and while it has its moments, it's not a great read:
http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've finished David Haynes' latest release 'Boo!' and it's a must read for all clown fans :-)
