Now I'm back to Malazan with Toll the Hounds! It's nice to be back in the Malazan world after so long away. :)
I just finished Bloodchild and Other Stories and am pleased to report that I found Octavia Butler's short fiction to be as gorgeously written as her novels.
Next up is Bastion by Mercedes Lackey for a little brain candy. Her more recent Valdemar novels have not been nearly as good as the earlier ones, but I'm an addict and can't seem to quit them :)

Her stories seem to be hit or miss for me, but see for yourself.

there's a few permanent tardis in Glasgow city centre

I've been meaning to try Butler for a long time now so went a head and grabbed Bloodchild. So far, the first story was pretty good.

I'm now reading The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig.

I agree with you about Crossover, that's the only one in the collection that left me sort of meh.

Don't I know it!! I didn't say I was being successful, only that I was trying..."
I took on the challenge to stop buying books several years ago. The biggest help was when I donated just about all of our existing books (over several purge sessions) and limited the book storage area. Unless you are absolutely set on re-reading it, get rid of it. Having a good local library that exchanges with other near by libraries is a key to success too.

We have gotten quite good at purging those books we have both read. Neither of us is a rereader. The problem is that my husband & I don't read the same books at the same time, so there are hundreds that I have read but he has not, and vice versa.
Having said that, I will reread the earlier books of a series when new ones come out. Which I hate to do, but have to because my memory is so lousy. Which is why I really, really try to not start a series till it has been complete.

Well that and we're like 1 or 2 towns in the area that isn't part of the greater Seattle library system. It sucks. the small town I grew up in had a much better library than what I have currently.
But we've also moved over almost completely to electronic formats like ebooks and audiobooks so physical storage space isn't much of a problem anymore. Plus it also means I'm less likely to leave the book I'm currently reading at random places never to be seen again. :)

Are you in King County??? They have the largest library in the country (much bigger than Seattle)

Started The Vagrant last night. Interesting so far. It was a bit of a unique voice.

Started some SF
The Enemy Papers
I finished The Crippled God and really need to read some thing different, so my next 2 books will be a William Monk mystery (by Anne Perry) and then a Discworld book, The Last Continent.
Bastion was kind of meh, but I'm a completist when it comes to Lackey's Valdemar books so I'm glad I read it, anyway. Not nearly as good as the earlier ones, though.
Back to short stories, David Brin this time with his collection Otherness.
