Well, that's disappointing to hear since it's sitting on my bedside table waiting for me to get to it. What makes it not so good?

Maryam (ardvisoor) | 24 comments I'm halfway through The Eye of the World and almost finished City. Both incredible.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Just finished The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. Now I'm starting Fantastic Voyage for a challenge in another group.

message 856: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm finishing up Dead Man's Walk, which is the third book in the Lonesome Dove series. It's not as good as the prior two but it's a prequel and it's funny to see Gus and Call so green. It's hilarious.

And don't forget, there are 3,492 more books in the series lol

YouKneeK | 1412 comments Since my last post, I’ve finished the Red Rising trilogy. I’m not one to thumb my nose at a book just because it’s hyped and it appeals to a broader audience, but this series is a case where I personally don’t understand the hype. I did think it improved as it progressed, but it got quite repetitive at times and the storyline seemed fairly generic. Where the author shone for me was in his depiction of friendships and teamwork. The series had some great moments, and I did enjoy it, but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. My reviews:
Book 1
Book 2
Book 3

After that, I read Reaper Man, the 2nd book in the Death subseries of Discworld. I liked it, and it had some good humor, but the story dragged for me at times. My Review

Yesterday, I finished Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I liked it quite a bit. My Review

Last night, I started City of Bones by Martha Wells.

message 860: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan I recently finished reading The Warded Man, Book 1 in the Demon Cycle series. I usually don't read fantasy but this was a unique story that I found rather fascinating. Has anyone else read this series?

I also did some comics/manga:

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 5: Super Famous. This series continues to delight me. (My Review)

Attack on Titan 20 . Things are really ramping up now. (My Review)

Medieval / present day Boston

message 870: by Michele (new)

Michele | 1215 comments Finished my Wodehouse digression, now reading The Gallery of Lost Species. Picked it up off the "new fiction" shelf at my university library, knowing nothing about it. Quite good so far.

message 871: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I've read the first hundred pages of Mr. Splitfoot, and it's okay, but I've got a long airplane flight tomorrow and would rather bring books that I own, rather than a library book. So, I think I'll take it back and start instead Octavia's Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements or Black Dove, White Raven.

message 872: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments Listening to As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. I am now thinking that this year's Halloween costumes will be Buttercup and Westley.

It's a fun series with a swashbuckling, three musketeer type vibe to it. I thought it was just supposed to be a trilogy but apparently there's going to be a fourth book.

I really like this series. It's a complete fun reading.

message 878: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Agree, Maryam. It's a nice breather in between heavier, more serious books.

This is easily one of my favorite fantasy series. This second read has made me appreciate the series even more. There are small tidbits that don't stand out with the first read, but having read later books in the series, I now recognize how brilliantly McGuire sows the seeds for later events.

Sarah | 3915 comments I tried listening to Grimspace and I'm really not into it. I feel like the writing is pretty cheesy.

message 887: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1235 comments I just finished Stiletto and Foxglove Summer both great additions to their respective series although Stiletto wasn't quite as good as The Rook where the Rivers of London series keeps getting better.

message 888: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1235 comments Now the question is The Aeronaut's Windlass or The Passage next?

It's a favorite series of mine too and yes, the author absolutely has threaded clues and pay-off-later-bits since the first book. I recently did a reread and was amazed at how much is there if you only know to look for it.

message 890: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Hank wrote: "Now the question is The Aeronaut's Windlass or The Passage next?"

Probably The Passage. Get the dark and unsettling (but good) one out of the way and the The Aeronaut's Windlass will probably be a breath of fresh air. I haven't read it but I'm guessing it's fun.

CS Barron Just finished Kingfisher, a new book by Patricia A. McKillip, and I recommend it for people who like this subgenre (myth and folk tale). Like other books by McKillip, it's superbly written, lyrical, and witty. Inspired by Arthurian myth, with a modern update as digital technology intersects fairy tale.
