Book was about a girl who was assigned a job of garbage worker since according to the powers in charge she was outspoken. The work was dangerous, and death was not uncommon. In fact they were almost expected to die as they were considered the dregs of Society.
Was a scene where she got medicine for a woman when she snuck out of the compound.
She is trying to get back her 'life' as she expected it to be.
