From the library book sale shelf yesterday, I bought Mudbound, two other books that I cannot remember the name of, and a mystery called God Bless John Wayne. How could I pass that up?
I wanted to get that too Roz. But now that the paperback is only 1 month away and I've waited a year on that, I resisted ;-)
I hope so too Kristie. It has amazing ratings, 4.2 on average and 4.43 by my 12 GR friends who read it. I think I should move it to my priority list :)
Yes, do, Peggy! I picked up I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban yesterday on the Audible daily deal.
I got Seriously Mum, Where's That Donkey?. It is free on kindle today :)I read the first book in the series and it was not bad, although not as good as some other memoirs of people moving to a different country. But hey, it's free and a quick read and will fit in my geocache challenge :)
It's a new month for Kindle's monthly deals, and I picked up three:The Book of Kells
Sandstorm
Sage's Eyes

I've become slightly obsessed with vikings as i've been working my way through the tv series (no connection to this b..."I was trying to remember a very good book about Vikings, which I have read a long time ago, and now I was able to locate the title:
The Long Ships: A Saga of the Viking Age
Very good, very close to real old customs
I just ordered:
- I loved reading this with my daughters and want my grandson to experience it before he is too old for it.
- This looks like a cute story. I'm a bit intrigued.
- I saw someone in the what have you made recently thread making these types of animals and they are so cute! I've been considering this book for a while, but don't know how to crochet. It says it can be used by beginners, so we will see. My mom knows how to crochet and she will be moving closer soon, so I'm sure she can help me if I get stuck. :)
Kristie, how exciting, the crochet book! Have a look at planetjune.com. I taught myself how to crochet but I just couldn't do it with the drawings that are often in books. This website has clear photos and also videos. It helped me a lot :) Oh, and another tip, start using 100% cotton. I started with acryl (is that also the english name?) and got so frustrated because it split so easily.Don't forget to post pictures of what you make! :D
Thanks for tips, Peggy! I'm excited to try it out. I will check out that site and look for the 100% cotton. I'm pretty sure your acryl is acrylic fiber, so similar enough. By the way, your rattles are adorable. Did you find a pattern for those online or in a book somewhere?
The rattles are from a Dutch website, but all have an English translation as well: http://stipenhaak.nl/gratis-patronen/ (it's in dutch but below every picture it says download pattern for the english one). These small ones are free, she has also bigger amigurumi patterns (I love them, this is one of my favourite designers) but you have to pay for them. The small ones, like the dog or the mouse are perfect to start with, because they don't require anything difficult and for a first project it's nice to make something smaller so you have result sooner ;-)
Excellent! Thank you! Yes, I want to start with something small so I can complete it. Otherwise, I may end up with a partially finished product forever.
So there was a graphic novel sale. And here most of these books cost $30-$50 each, and I got them online for $10-$20. SO I got:Anya's Ghost
Through the Woods
Saga, Volume 1
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
The Complete Persepolis
Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea
The Complete Maus
Aya: Life in Yop City

I am now going to look it up for the littlest of the nephews and nieces. The 14 that are too old will just have to deal. The baby 2 will love it.
I got a few books from Audible this morning:Flight - Daily Deal (It's short enough for the upcoming toppler perhaps?)
Then from their 2 for 1 credit sale: Like I need a new series to start...
The Black Echo
The Black Ice
Sandra wrote: "You need a challenge with black in the title, Janice. :)"Some of these series lead well to that idea. Quite a few use common words in each book. The In Death series, for example. Or Charley Davidson series has the word "Grave" in each title.
I've thought about challenges with a common word in the title. For a while, it seemed like a lot of the titles I was reading had the word "bone" in it. I just need to figure out how to present such a challenge.
I remember when we did the "girl" in the title theme. We played with common words in the title, and make kinda of list. I remember that family related words, like "girl", "wife", "daughter", were in the list, and many others related to landscapes, like "lake", "mountain", "sea", "orchard". I'm sure is not coincidence. It has to be studied that for some reason specific words sell more. But it was fun to gopher that. The challenge idea sounds good.
I purchased No Way to Run: A Mother and Son Story of Surviving Abuse today at Costco. I missed the author book signing by about an hour. The author was my neighbor before I moved into the city. The title is ingenious in that it represents that she is a paraplegic who had no way to run from her husband's abuse.
She is a remarkable woman who has had a very difficult life and I'm looking forward to reading her story.
Wow Janice! It does amaze me how evil some people can be. I can imagine that it will be quite an emotional read for you.
That sounds like it will be a hard hitting read for you, Janice. It's awful to think there are people out there who have to go through that kind of thing.
It is a horrific story, more so because it really happened - just a couple of miles from where I lived. I don't know Holly myself, but my daughter-in-law is friends with her.
I just bought Abaddon's Gate with some birthday money. Holding off on spending the rest as I'm not sure what i want. I also bought a card expansion set for The Rivals of Catan. I know it's not book related but thought I'd mention it as the game was recommended to me by a couple YLTO members. :-)
I picked up the last two books in the Justin de Quincy series which is a thoroughly enjoyable medieval murder mystery series:Dragon's Lair
Prince of Darkness
I decided to purchase two GR Daily Deals books and bought Timbuktu and The Keepers of the House I tried to buy the third one, Charming but B & N said I had already purchased it. I will have to check on my Nook when I get home to download them to my Nook.
This week's buys:
I'm halfway through Lion Heart, and I'm loving it. This is one of those series that I hate to see end because the characters are so well written and it's a intriguing take on the Robin Hood legend. I'm old enough to remember that "legendary" year in the Beatles' career, so I can't wait to get started on that one next.
I got Lemon Meringue Pie Murder and Fudge Cupcake Murder. Always good to have some cozy's at hand if you have a day or two between books to fill up.
