I'm supposed to spend this summer writing a grant proposal. I find it very difficult, I have no idea how to start really. I even have to come up with a specific idea still. So in the past two weeks after my holidays I've been doing all other things I can think off, but now I'm out of other stuff to do so I really have to get started on the proposal. If I can not procrastinate with other work-things, I apparently start procrastinating by buying books:Bluestockings: The Remarkable Story of the First Women to Fight for an Education
Love, Janis
Orange Is the New Black
The Underground Girls of Kabul: In Search of a Hidden Resistance in Afghanistan
It's all non-fiction, which I don't read all that often. I wonder if I bought only non-fiction to pretend like I'm still doing something useful and educational ;-)
I had a $10.00 coupon with Audible, so picked up today's daily deal, As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. I've got over $6.00 left on the coupon. Funny, I had nominated this book for this month's theme only to have it come up on the daily deal. I also ordered two Stephen King books which arrived today:
Different Seasons
The Wind Through the Keyhole
Mariab wrote: "I got a new book (a present, actually): Star Trek Y Los Derechos Humanos"What is derechos? I got "derechos are associated with bands of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms variously know as bow echoes, squall lines , or quasi-linear connective systems or inland hurricanes."
In the last week:Emma
The Gods Themselves
Children of Dune
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
A Song of Ice and Fire
I just bought The Black Prism as it was a kindle daily deal. Been wanting to read Brent Weeks for a while.

LOL, Cherie! Funny translation! (I haven't found the book's link in English, sorry)
It is a book about Human Rights and Star Treek, written by a well know and serious german Professor for Human Rights Robert Alexy, which makes the book more surprising
After rearranging my shelves yesterday, today I stole Sarah's idea and made a wishlist on Amazon for all books I want to read but don't own, so that I can daily sort them on price to see which ones are a daily deal or otherwise cheaply priced. I already found a few, so I bought them :) So I bought them :) It's so much fun to unexpectedly find a book for just a few dollars! :DA Year of Marvellous Ways
Radium Halos: A Novel about the Radium Dial Painters
The Boy I Love
Hiroshima
Redfield Farm: A Novel of the Underground Railroad
On a less positive note: I've spent some hours and have half my books added, but the price-sorting doesn't seem to work so so far it seems like I wasted my time..
Nice haul, Peggy! It's so nice when books are cheap, isn't it?! I really enjoyed The Boy I Love and the other two books in that trilogy. I also picked up A Year of Marvellous Ways recently. It sounds like it will be an interesting read.
I have a few books added to my wishlist, Peggy, but I need to add more. Right now, I just have my top few books that I want. Hope you get the price sorting worked out. It is a really helpful feature, when it works.
I got two more, now I'm going to stop buying for a while.Of Windmills and War
The Universe Versus Alex Woods
Peggy, as the Great Enabler of this thread it is my duty to warn you: you have bought 12 books in the last days. It exist the possibility you find a great deal in the next days you have to buy, and then you would have bought 13, which is, as I have already explained in a previous comment, bad luck. So I would advice you to just buy 2 more books today, right now, so you will count 14. This will mean in case of a "unavoidable deal" you are free to buy it without being afraid of bad luck and such things. Buy those two books to be sure you are on the safe side. Do not say I didn't warn you. :)
Sandra, you have such terrific strategy for determining how many books to buy. Your TBR pile must be awesome. :-)
Sandra wrote: "Peggy, as the Great Enabler of this thread it is my duty to warn you: you have bought 12 books in the last days. It's been on my tbr for a long time, so couldn't just ignore it.
I'm taking your 13 books warning seriously, so I also got The Mirror World of Melody Black which I had never heard of before today, but what can I say, I can't resist those kinds of titles. And it was only $1.11!
I bought Seveneves which was a kindle daily deal. I've wanted this since it came out but it's always been expensive so I'm happy.
Just bought book 3-5 in Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series. All were on kindle deal. Broken Harbor, The Secret Place, and Faithful Place.
I had a highly successful visit to our fave used book store (where I also modeled appropriate purchasing behavior for my 14-year old, because duty and obligation). These came home with me.The Apostate's Tale by Margaret Frazer
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse
The High Window by Raymond Chandler
Literary Murder by Batya Gur
And
The Queen's Man by Sharon Kay Penman
Sarah wrote: "Just bought book 3-5 in Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series. All were on kindle deal. Broken Harbor, The Secret Place, and Faithful Place."I'm waiting for the last book in the series to come out. I've enjoyed all the books, so I'm quite eager for the next one. The book appears to be out, but the audiobook won't be out until October. Not all of the books are available on audiobook for me. It shows that you can pre-order it, but whether Canada will have publishing rights or not remains to be seen. I've had that happen where I've pre-ordered a book only to have it pulled because of regional restrictions.
With Faithful Place, I was able to buy it and it's in my library. Somewhere along the way, rights were removed and I can only access it out of my library.
Look who came in the mail today Three Complete Novels: The Servants of Twilight / Darkfall / Phantoms
I picked up a couple of audiobooks in the 2 for 1 credit sale at Audible - The Fold
Shōgun - all 53.5 hours of it.
I keep looking at that sale, Janice, but haven't made any decisions yet. I may pick up a nonfiction or two...
I picked up The Wright Brothers and The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia from the Audible sale. I'm still considering a couple of others, but I'm feeling a bit indecisive.
I had to drive over to AmyK's house and make her get me League of Dragons from our Audible account. On my iPod now!
My granddaughter and I went to our favorite sushi place for dinner last night and after went to Powell's Books. I purchased:The Gift of Rain
The Lifeboat
and
Letters from Skye.
I have next month's group read covered!
Haha I was just about to say Cherie, I think someone got inspired by this month's book suggestions ;-)

A type of wind:

nounUS
plural noun: derechos
a line of intense, widespread, and fast-moving windstorms and sometimes thunderstorms that moves across a great distance and is characterized by damaging winds.
They didn't have Louisiana Longshot in print at Powell's yesterday, but I just checked Barnes & Nobel and picked up the ebook for 99 cents.
I've been shopping again.Suicide Forest (ebook 1.99)
The Dispatcher (free pre-order on Audible)
The Android's Dream
Whistling Past the Graveyard
Strangers on a Train
The last 3 were all 3.95 at Audible.
