Gene Wilder is one of my favorites!

The book title by Gene Wilder indeed sounds racy - didn't know he wrote a book. Gene was a talented actor.

I am re-reading a book I probably read forty years ago, "A Prologue to Love," by Taylor Caldwell. Actually, my former next door neighbor's family bought her house when he was growing up in Buffalo. This was after she was pretty famous but had moved away.
My records show that I read the following books by Taylor Caldwell:The Listener and Let Love Come Last
Haven't read Caldwell's A Prologue to Love.
I have read about four hundred plus pages of "A Prologue to Love," and have found no love mentioned except for being unfulfilled and the participants miserable or dying.
Bad Call: A Summer Job on a New York Ambulance by Mike Scardino was great. I gave it a 5 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finally, toward the end of the Taylor Caldwell book, some light at the end of the tunnel so guess it wasn't a terribly bad read. At least it kept my interest but I do have a complaint. Couldn't a Pulitzer prize winner get her facts straight? Couldn't she spell my name right; the name of St. Teresa of Avila; not Therese.
Joy, Ir wasn't a misprint; it was mistaken identity as the spelling was for St. Therese, also known as the Little Flower, of France; not St. Teresa of Avila, Spain. Someone should have known better.

Geez, had no idea he wrote several books. Glad I now know. Adding Gene's name to my ever-growing list.
I enjoy Goodreads as I learn much from others. Thanks All.
Joy, I followed your recommendation of reading "The Painter's Daughter," and am enjoying the story. Thanks for mentioning that book
I'm listening to the Prey series which features Lucas Davenport as the main character. It's a really good mystery-thriller series. Sandford was a newspaper reporter for 25 years, so he knows a lot about how the police & such work.I've known about the series for a long time & read one years ago, but not in order. I started collecting them, but they didn't make the cut when we moved & I just sort of avoided them. Last year, I read a SF book he wrote & really liked it, so I listened to a few of his standalones & really liked them, too. I've been collecting the audiobooks & am listening to them one after another now. I thought I'd need a break, but I haven't gotten tired of them yet. I just started the 15th! That's pretty incredible.

Jim, are the plots complicated?
The chase is pretty complicated & doesn't always go the way you'd think. There's also more brutality than I think you'd be comfortable with, Joy. I wouldn't recommend them for you.
I was afraid of that, Jim! I guess the best type of mystery for me would be something by Robert B. Parker (one of his Spenser mysteries). Not too complicated and not too brutal.Robert B. Parker
You certainly have a lot to choose from with Parker. I've read a few of his books & liked them. There are 40 books in his Spenser series & he has several others. I think Tom Selleck played Jesse Stone in a couple of movies made out of that series. They were good.
Jim wrote: "The chase is pretty complicated & doesn't always go the way you'd think. There's also more brutality than I think you'd be comfortable with, Joy. Adding this to my ever-growing list of to read. Someday ...
Book club resumes this month. I didn't read the summer book so I'm skipping the meeting but will pick up the next book. Maybe I'll actually read the book selection this time ....
My book club selection this month; "Pachinko" by Min Jin Lee. I haven't read it yet but sounds good.
Don't bother reading, "Pachinko," as it took me four hours to find out the title wasn't a person's name but a pool hall in Japan and the book's last half is plain misery over and over again. Why would anyone go to Japan if they ever read this?
Book selection for September at my local book club is "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" by Alexander McCall Smith. A national bestseller. So far, the book is not what I expected. Interesting.
Setting Botswana Africa. Father worked in the mines. Later on he raised cattle.
Linda, I've heard of that book but never read it.The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
Thanks for posting.
This is the first book in his Detective series and they are all good. I loved this one. He also has a series set in Scotland that is equally good and others. If you like this book check out his other series.
The book that Linda mentioned isn't totally a detective story; it is a delightful book filled with amusing characters with the background a mystery but not at all like most detective plots. It happens to be one of my favorites.
You know...you probably don't. I've never read Inferno by Dante. I had to order a copy at my library because they didn't have one on their shelves.
I am reading another of Louise Penny's books as she is one of my favorite authors. The book is "Glass Houses," and it is a mystery but a different kind. It is a thrilling, interesting story with loads of interesting characters. The books are kind of a series but they do each stand on their own.
I tried reading Less BY Andrew Sean Greer. Couldn't get into it.See my review at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Still reading but my computer and I have been having (minor) health issues. Hoping to post more often as I have missed you, my friends. Hope to get more reviews doon soon. Happy first day of Fall toall.
