Liz (liz_the_librarian) It feels like every month is going faster and faster! May is a week and a half away! Has everyone finished your April challenge? As a head's up, May's challenge is going to be to read a book that has been turned into a movie so now's a good time to start thinking about what you might want to read or throw out some suggestions.

After finishing The Light Fantastic last night, I cracked open The Darkest Night. I've never been a huge fan of romance novels, but Gena Showalter has always come highly recommended so I thought I'd give this series a try. Plus, I think it will be a quick, easy read. Has anyone else read The Lords of the Underworld series?

I also started Chuck Palahniuk's book Damned. I'm not thrilled with it yet, which is kind of a bummer because I've always been a big fan of his. The narrator is very repetitive and slightly obnoxious, though that's to be expected when a 13-year-old rich girl is the narrator.

What is everyone reading this week?
The Light Fantastic (Discworld, #2) by Terry Pratchett The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Damned (Damned #1) by Chuck Palahniuk

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I finished Halfway to the Grave as well as One Foot in the Grave, which puts me at 53 books read. I am currently reading Concealed in Death- the new J.D. Robb, as well as am continuing to work on Team of Rivals. I've also started reading Drop 10, about 30 super foods that are supposed to help boost your metabolism.

Pattie Babbitt Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner The Fault in Our Stars by John Green For all you young adult readers out there...for the Book to Movie may challenge you may want to consider "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green coming not soon enough to theatres and my favorite YA trilogy "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner coming to theaters in September.

For a non-YA suggestion the book "Water for Elephants" is fantastic!

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Congrats to Ann! I think she is the first person in this group to reach the goal of 52 books! /highfive to her :)

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments I picked up a few books that were recommended and a few that just looked good for this weeks. The Harrowing, by Sokoloff, The Testing and Independent Study by Charbonnau, A Discovery of Witches by Harkness and The Magicians by Grossman and Dark Places by Flynn. I also picked up Guilty Pleasures by Hamilton but finished that last night along with Man Made Boy by Skovorn. Both great quick reads. I finished my challenge but love all the suggestions that everyone has given (and the reviews) so I just keep picking up up what everyone is talking about. Next months challenge is going to be hard since I have already read many of the books coming out as movies I will have to find a new one or reread an older one...

Julie | 130 comments Total congrats Ann! That is AMAZING!

There are SO MANY books that have been made into movies. Julie and Julia was one that I enjoyed.

message 7: by Traci (new)

Traci (tardis1974) I started the year strong, but I've hit a reading wall, I think. I've read 57 books so far but only finished 2 of those this month. The one I'm reading now (Starter for Ten) started off so good, but it's just dragging now and I don't want to pick it up.

I did start the third Game of Thrones graphic novel a few days ago, and it's just as phenomenal as the first two.

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Congrats to Traci as well! We've got some voracious readers in this group! It's great to see so much enthusiasm for reading.

And, Traci, hitting a wall with reading is super common. It happens to me here and there; taking a little break is never a bad thing. Good luck to you!

message 9: by Chama (new)

Chama | 15 comments I started reading Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind, but couldn't finish it. Getting the 60-ish pages in that I did was sheer willpower. Never again with this author! lol. On to the next, hopefully better read, The Hephaestus Plague by Thomas Page. :)

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments So, I walked into the library to pick up a book I had on hold and happened top glance over at the new books table and a title caught my eye... "Seven Deadlies" by Gigi Levangie... so obviously I had to check it out too!!! can I tell you all it is a hilarious quick read ( took me about 4 hours) surprisingly funny story about a young girl who writes about the rich and not do famous fellow students in her posh Beverly hills private school... or does she.... would recommend for a quick weekend fun read!

message 11: by Julie (new)

Julie | 130 comments I finished One Summer by David Baldacci yesterday. It was the first of his books I had read, but I really enjoyed it.

I am nearly done with Have Spacesuit, Will Travel. I've been listening to the audiobook (it was one of my husband's recommendations) but I'll be glad when it's done. It's just not been my favorite.

Otherwise I'm still working through A Dance With Dragons (a bit here, a bit there) and A Sacred Marriage.

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments Here is an off the wall question.... Does everyone here log every book they read on their Ante? (I know a little off topic) Just wondering. I don't because I forget or just plain get lazy... Just wondering.

message 13: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I can be ahead in the May challenge since I am finishing Ender's Game. I also enjoyed. The Maze runner for people looking for movie books. Jane Eyre could be one I retread for the challenge in May too. My favorite book.
The stories by Margaret Peterson Haddix, that I am reading to my children, have been good reads if you need to read on the 5th grade level to any of your children. Lol.

I haven't been logging all of mine on the 52 pick-up thing. But I keep track on LibraryThing of everything I read. Because if I don't then I'll end up picking something up thinking it looks good then getting 50 pages into it before I realize that I've already read it.
