What 2 books would you take with you in the apocalypse? Cassie takes Huckleberry Finn and Where the Sidewalk Ends. (view spoiler)[ I think I would take Knowledge of Angels and a Bible. After that, if I still had room, I'd take one of the Harry Potter books...um, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban or Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince or maybe Suzanne Collins' Gregor the Overlander. What two books would I take in the apocalypse? Probably, The Great Gatsby,Me Before You,We Were Liars and as many Morganville Vampire books I could carry, all fifteen seems a bit to ambitious. I have a few children's books that I'm quite attached to but I'm not sure which one's i'd take, probably The Adventures of Mog haha.I don't think I'd be able to take just two books! I'd always find room...

Up to chapter 13 (view spoiler)[ The chapters are a little to choppy and I wish Cassie had explain the 4 waves at the same time. It was a little disorganised. However, I like how the author is dealing with Cassie's character, she's very realistic. (hide spoiler)]

Part I - The Last Historian: 1st Wave (view spoiler)[ EMP takes out all electricity and electronics on 10th day at 11 am. I was suspicious that the aliens would actually activate pulse at exactly 11 am, why would they care about our stupid hourly time conventions.

The scene with the crucifix soldier was so sad and so scary. You can't blame Cassie, but it was such a horrible misunderstanding. And part of me wonders since the soldier was badly hurt if he did it on purpose.

I like that Cassie is short for Cassiopeia. Cassie's father stays positive throughout all the horrors of the end of the world including when Cassie's mother gets sick. Incredible that they don't leave mom until she dies. Cassie's father gives her a gun. Cassie's father was my hero!

I was so sad when Sammy got on the school bus by himself. Why would the soldiers save the children and kill all the adults? This sounds fishy...

Part II - Wonderland: Switches POV and is confusing at first. I couldn't figure out what was going on with Cassie, is this a flashback? Then I finally figured out that this was another character and it's a guy. (view spoiler)[ Guy couldn't protect his baby sister in the 3rd Wave but survived the Red Plague. Taken into the Wright-Patterson infirmary. Brain mapped out by Wonderland program to detect infected and your personality. Lt. Col. Vosch brings back silver locket to 17 year old Benjamin Thomas Parish. Wow, that's Cassie's crush! How ironic. (hide spoiler)]
Part III - Silencer: (view spoiler)[ Infected hunter tracked Cassie and didn't kill her as she slept but shot her from afar. Cassie gets shot in the leg by a Silencer and is pinned under a car. Again, I would think what would I do? Do you stay hidden or try to run? Hunter "awakened" 4 years ago and is now 18. What does awakened mean? (hide spoiler)]

Park IV - Mayfly: (view spoiler)[ Cassie finds an Explorer (my car!) for shelter in a blizzard and settles in to die. Her leg is infected and she's so cold. Evan Walker saves Cassie and (Sammy's) Bear. Evan found her by the buzzards circling. Evan bakes bread, hunts, thoughtful, gentle, bathes Cassie, carries her. Evan lost his siblings, he's the oldest of 6 and his parents and his girlfriend, Lauren. Evan kisses Cassie and she finds out that he read her diary. Reading her diary is understandable but creepy. Evan catches her in the lie about Ben Parish being her boyfriend. (hide spoiler)]
Part V - The Winnowing: (view spoiler)[ Sam is taken to Camp Haven ~ Camp Heaven. Each child is screened, red is good and green means they have a fever. Sammy meets Dr. Pam. He misses Bear and wishes that he didn't give Bear to Cassie. I'm so glad that Sammy survived! I see a rescue attempt in his future. (hide spoiler)]
Part VI - The Human Clay: (view spoiler)[ Ben/Zombie at boot camp takes care of Sam/Nugget. Ringer joins their squad and their squad graduates as the top squadron after Ringer teaches Zombie how to shoot. Zombie becomes Sergeant. (hide spoiler)]
Part VII - The Heart to Kill: (view spoiler)[ Evan's soft hands convince Cassie that he's the Silencer. Then Cassie finds her M16 out in the barn. I suspected Evan, but I couldn't believe it since why would he save her? If you were Cassie, would you confront Evan or run away when he was out hunting? (hide spoiler)]

Part VIII - The Spirit of Vengeance: (view spoiler)[ Zombie's team is sent out on a recon mission. They kill some infected and then take out sniper...Reznik. When Zombie takes out Ringer's chip, she lights up green. What?! So are they killing the humans not the infected? Kill switch made perfect sense. Flintstone killing himself with the kill switch was so pointless. I was angry that Ringer or Zombie didn't stop him.

Ringer tells Zombie that they are the 5th Wave. Ringer shot Zombie and Zombie goes back so he could rescue Nugget. Planned injury to avoid Wonderland program so the Others couldn't determine what happened. (hide spoiler)]
Part IX - A Flower to the Rain: (view spoiler)[ Cassie and Evan meet up with a squad and Evan takes them out, but gets hurt.

"Why did he shoot me, then save me? What did he mean when he said that I'd saved him?
It's weird. When he held me in his arms, I felt safe. When he kissed me, I was lost in him. It's like there are two Evans. There is the Evan I know and the Evan I don't. Evan the farm boy with the soft hands who strokes me till I'm purring like a cat. Evan the pretender who is the cold-blooded killer who shot me."

Cassie defrags Evan but runs away when he confesses to being a shark who dreamed he was a man. Scary stuff. Evan is Other and human? Wright-Patterson is the main Others camp and Vosch is the main commander who designed the attacks. How can Cassie rescue Sam without Evan?!

Evan shows himself to Cassie and she basks in the warmth of his consciousness. She hates the loss of him when he leaves her mind. I was so glad that Evan said that he was opposed to the extermination of the human race. Coexistence sounded practical. Aren't they going to have to be in a human host after they kill all the humans? If there are so few of the Others aren't they being greedy to not coexist with humans on the earth?

Cassie does a great job once she's infiltrated Camp Haven. Finding Sam was going to be the tough part. I'm glad that the computer search didn't work and she had to go to Plan B. (hide spoiler)]
Part X - A Thousand Ways: (view spoiler)[ Zombie's clock is ticking. I'm glad that Zombie doesn't kill Kistner, but if the alarm didn't go off anyway, it would've been stupid. Would you kill everyone or avoid it where you could? Of course, Evan warned Cassie that if she killed someone then it would trigger the alarm. (hide spoiler)]

Part XI - The Infinite Sea: (view spoiler)[ Sam recognizes Cassie. I thought it was sweet that Sam didn't want Bear and hugged Cassie instead. (hide spoiler)]
Part XII - Because of Kistner: (view spoiler)[ Zombie sees Nugget and is going to kill the soldier with him. Because of mercy with Kistner, Zombie knows he can't show anyone else mercy. (hide spoiler)]
Part XIII - The Black Hole: (view spoiler)[ Thank goodness that Sam introduces Cassie to Zombie before they can kill each other! I'm glad that they remembered Sam's tracker. Poor Sam taking it out. I was hoping that Sam would survive the remote control thingie because they removed his tracker, but then it was thanks to Evan. Love the cockroach sign as well as the one knock. Cassie takes out Sam's Silencer.

The awkward Ben Parish and Evan Walker moment was great! And Sam asking if Evan is Cassie's boyfriend, in the midst of a dangerous escape was precious.

So glad that Ringer comes riding in on a Humvee to save the day. I'm impressed (and quite skeptical) that Ben can do so much with a gut shot injury.

I cringed that after all of that, Cassie reverts to babbling in front of Ben Parish. I wanted to slap her.

what i don't understand is (view spoiler)[when the children all arrived at the camp they must have all been red but some were killed and others were given a chip that changed them to green. Why kill 1/2 of the children at that point they had not been scanned i don't see what reason they had for killing them. (hide spoiler)]

The person she killed - that must have been rough. I kind of understand how she thought she might be in trouble but then she sees that crucifix... she must not feel that great about herself.
I'm happy I'm getting all the background story. I' really appreciating that.
It sucks that she got shot. There isn't like a hospital anywhere around so her options are limited.
