My copy was waiting on Kindle this am - but I pre-ordered. I also used one of my Audible credits for the audio. I know...I'm obsessed! lol
Read Chapter 3 during my lunch hour at work. OMG! I am in love with this book already!! Some characters and things I'd been wondering about from books in the recent past are brought up again in this book, just like I'd hoped they'd be. NR definitely did not disappoint! I know I'm a sap, but I've already been sniffling........it is soooooo good! THANK YOU NORA!!!!!!!!!!
When I pre ordered Sandra, not was on sale for $9.59 which was cheaper than my credits so I bought it.

Just remembered I did the same thing, Dawn. I was surprised it was on sale as a preorder but it was. I keep my credits for full price books.

Me too. It was priced like it should be for a whispersync special, but when I went to audible there it was. It was $5 cheaper than the ebook. But I will take whatever deal they want to give me.
Went by Walmart on my way home from work and they do not have the book. I am so disappointed. Was really looking forward to starting this one tonight. Will try a different Walmart tomorrow closer to work since i get off at noon tomorrow.
Just finished listening to it. I loved it. Think it's become one of my favorites. Looking forward to our discussions.
I loved the book, but decided I need to listen again to really make up my mind. I also can't wait for our discussions.

I was able start reading last night. I ventured back out and found it at Kroger. will continue to read when I get off at noon today.
Yay Sheri. I am bookmarking favorite quotes today...someone remind me I did this when we discuss lol
Finished reading Apprentice this morning. LOVED it!!!! I'm planning to listen to the audio version this coming week. Thank you Nora! It is a great installment!!
I finished reading this one tonight. I tried spreading it out a little to make it last but once I got to a certain point I couldn't put the book down. another great read
So excited, I was browsing through my town's Overdrive system and this found this; it wasn't with the new releases and didn't come up when I put in a request for it. What a great surprise! Starting it tonight!
I just finished! I love it. I think the last two books are among some of the best of In Death series. Roarke and Eve have some great moments and I love a couple of reveals. Can't wait to discuss.

I'm right there with you Sharon. Can't wait to discuss.
I have to say I really enjoyed it. I think when I was listening to everything unfold felt very different than previous books. Was I the only one who thought this? Also the female cop that came on board whose name was Shelby was who? It didn't ring any bells.
Different in what way?
Officer Shelby was a beat patrol officer who first showed up in the last book, Brotherhood in Death. Eve brought her on to mentor now that Trueheart is no longer in training as he's now a detective.

I had a few favorite exchanges. Here is oneRoared "Will this new sort of understanding, as it were, also table the daily sniping between you and Sommerset?"
Eve "Not a chance in hell."
Roared "Well then, there's something to look forward to."

First it seemed the case came together quickly in that they knew who they were dealing with. The other thing was the investigation itself. Peabody was involved but they usually have more time with each other during the investigation. This one seemed to have the working independently so they had limited time and jokes with each other. You also didn't get to see some of the interviews you normally do like with the stepfather and his son. You were told about it thru Trueheart. So it just seemed different. Even in one that reminds me of this which was Delusion in Death and one that feature a case similar this one just seemed a little different on everyone's inclusion.

It's pretty clear what these two are up to and it has everything to do with mutual respect.

I found this to be a wonderful change. It showed Eve's maturation. She relied on her team and included other units. It was clear she was in charge but she let everyone do their jobs. You can see her really developing as a leader.
Bringing Lowenbaum in quickly had everything to do with the pace of the investigation. He and Eve worked really well as a team.
Letting others handle the volume of interviews was really smart. She took their assessments and honed in on the ones she needed for follow up. Eve has trained this team and it showed.
I really like how the series is evolving. It would have bored me if it was the same old investigative patterns.

Yes, lots of great exchanges in this one and I always enjoy Roarke's commenting on the relationship and sniping between Eve and Summerset. It always adds amusement, for the reader and especially for Roarke.
There were so many great moments. One that stands out to me is the discussion between Eve and Roarke about redecorating their master bedroom, and more specifically about the bed he already purchased on impulse, unsure if she would even like it. Then, she realizes that the bed cover is the same color and material as her wedding dress......as we've said before, but it bears repeating GOD WHAT A MAN! I also loved how he shared the myth/story of the bed with her. It obviously had an impact on him when he read it, because he memorized it so that he could share it with her. The bed has massive posts, celtic carvings, etc. She usually likes furnishings much simpler and plainer. Curious, why do you think she loved this bed?
I think my favorite was when Eve said she had a "Roarke boost" i.e. the booster. But Mira asked her if that was euphemism for sex and when did she have time for it while interviewing suspects. Lol!! I laughed out loud at that one.

These two are so connected. Somehow, I believe she knew there was a history to that bed.

Yeah, I love the redesign aspects of her office, she was like a kid in a candy store. I think Eve was more open to the new bed partly because of the story behind it but the design on it represents Roarke's roots too. Plus the story behind the bed symbolizes it as a marriage bed. Even though Eve love the bed Roarke had when they first slept together, this new bed is now their own marriage bed. I love he bed covers too, only Roarke would think of details such as that. Sigh.
I agree that this really showed Eve's maturing in how she is dealing with things in her personal and professional life. I did appreciate that a whole lot which I thought was great. It felt different because of being a subject that we are seeing right now and so it seemed to reflect that and so there were jokes as always but it seemed to have a feeling of somberness as well. I didn't pick up that Lowenbaum had an affect on the pace but I felt he had an seemed to be the reflection of how everyone was feeling.
Jeanine, I enjoyed the Roarke, Eve, Summerset exchange too. I always love getting more glimpses of how they all feel about each other.
The girl was one that was the most interesting part to me. I felt that one thing that never seemed picked up on which was something I felt was that her father was so infatuated with having a boy and even though he loved his daughter he was always about having his son. I wonder if that had some other influence for Willow.
Did anyone think that Willow had something to do with Susann's death? I was so sure we'd learn she pushed the woman.
It did have an influence on her. Reginald would take Willow on father/daughter trips that would generally be seen with father/son activities. Hunting trips, shooting range, etc. He never encouraged her to do the more "girly teenage" stuff but he would enforce things like combat knives, tools. I think he was molding her into the ideal vision of a son.
That thought never occurred to me Jonetta. I just assumed she was alone when she ran into the road and got hit by a car. At one point, Willow said that her dad would leave Susann behind anyway so I don't think she saw her as a threat. Though I wouldn't put it behind her not to harm Susann if she felt jealous of her father giving the wife all the attention. Like Eve said, Willow and Rayleen would get along great. Terrifying thought, but they would scheme up some stuff together if given the chance.
I think it would eventually. That resentment of being replaced. She thought Susann as weak so it would be the son that might get her torture more than the wife would, even if she lived.
Jonetta, I did think that she had something to do with it and surprised it didn't go that way. I actually think the reason she hated her stepbrother was first he was a boy and that her Dad actually liked him and I think that is why she hated him so much. He was a boy and that was what he really wanted. I also think that if the father had a boy then he would have not given Willow the time he normal did if the child was born.
I think she hated the mother because she had a boy and that was what her Dad wanted.
The way he called the girl Will and encouraged her becoming a boy to hide. He seemed to encourage her to be the boy he wanted and never had.
