Hello!Cynthia, I have a question concerning the points system. Please excuse my ignorance as I am doing a challenge for the first time (and greatly looking forward to it too!).
If a task has more than one component to it (i.e., read a book and see a movie, or read 2 or 3 books) are partial points awarded per component?
For example, in task 15.6, I have a play I am going to read and then the corresponding film which I will watch. If I read the play but don't get to the movie in time, are half points awarded (in this example)?
I realize that the challenge is incomplete if all components are not met for a given task, but wanted to clarify the scoring - whether it was all or nothing for points.
I really hope this is a "there's no such thing as a dumb question" kind of place! LOL!!! I just thought that if I had the question, maybe other new participants did too. I have been through many of the forums and couldn't find anything about the points system.

Jennifer, welcome to your first challenge! You're in for an addictive time! :)
The points are only given if all the components are completed - if there's a requirement that you need to post something (last challenge we had to post the cover of a book when we claimed points for one of the tasks) along with the title, if it's not included you won't get the points until you do post it. The same will be true of the extra components here - if you go see the play, you'll need to read the book you planned or else you won't get any points.

Thank you Cynthia, and thank you El for the clarification. That was the assumption I was working with, but just wanted to be sure. I can't wait for the 1st of September!

I have read this book twice and the majority of the book is in Toronto, Canada. Poland and Greece do figure in the story initially however I would say the major setting is Toronto. It is a wonderful book!
task 15.9I saw house is not allowed but would the plural of the words work such as
An Arsonist's Guide To Writer's Homes in New England: a novel by Brock Clarke.
It has "homes" instead of "home".

I have just a couple of questions.For the adoption task could I read one of the later Anne books? Anne of the Island specifically. She's an adult at this point, but she is an adopted character.

For the Childrens task would books by Dan Gutman work?His books state for ages 7+.

What are the total possible points you can earn for this seasons challenge?
Has anyone counted the points yet? By my count there are 52 books for this challenge not counting the three 20 point tasks. (52 includes my challenge).Math is not my thing so an official point count would be great!

Total Points Available as of now is 690 - if no one else finishes the summer challenge that's where it stands. 45 TASKS AND 58 Books MINIMUM (including 20 pointers and midway) as of right now is what I have figured out. These again will/might change as the tasks are filled for the undetermined tasks.

For 15.6 would I Am Rembrandt's Daughter count? The book focus' on the artists daughter but I believe that the artist himself is still a main character.

Oh so the more people that finish the summer challenge, the more points will be added to this challenge? Sorry this is only my second challenge and as you can see did not make it very far in the last one. hehe
Generally, since if you finish the previous season's challenge you get to write a 25 or 30 point task. However, the summer challenge is now finished, so we should be set at this point. We should just have to fill in the last two 20 point tasks, but the points have already been counted.

I've been keeping up with this thread and I don't THINK this has been asked: for 5.7, can we read a book that makes us thankful that we have something the main character doesn't? Like, being thankful for having a loving family and the book is about a dysfunctional/unhappy family or a child with bad parents or something like that?

Yeah, last challenge was INSANE. (One of the many reasons I took a break. Another being that HOLY COW, my brain was burned out from doing 2 challenges in a row! I needed some TV time, baby!) This one looks... manageable...
Cynthia - I may have missed this, but for the geography task how much of the story has to take place in the particular country? I was originally going to read Fugitive Pieces for Poland, but was told that a lot of the story takes place in Canada. Would The History of Love A Novel work for Poland? Thanks!
I'm just checking that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is OK for the 2 author task? It has one author listed on GR but the actual book has Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith as joint authors.

I was originally going to read Fugitive Pieces for Poland, but was to..."Cait - if you are lookign for a really good book that takes place in Poland, The Zookeeper's Wife A War Story is excellent. it is the story of the caretakers of the Warsaw zoo during WWII and how they were able to save Jews and other people by hiding them throughout the zoo.
I really loved it - and it is a true story.

Yeah, the Summer Challenge was my first one and it was NUTS. I'm glad this one is a little smaller, it'll give my mind a break :) Plus, its the new season for most of my shows so I have to have time for them as well! :)

I've added it as a possible choice for this task, too.
Cait, I'm also using Poland for the Geography task. A book I found that sounded interesting was In the Memory of the Forest. Just thought I'd pass that along as a possibility.

Yes, its a person - but I think it can be classified as a thing as well. Not sure, but maybe.
