My friend is looking for it. He read it a long time ago and gave me a list of some details. He couldn't remember the characters' names apart from their sexualities, which tended to blur throughout the story. It was the easiest way to differentiate the characters.

Here's his list:

+ straight girl and gay guy regularly sleep in the same bed, straight girl says gay guy is best to sleep with, gay guy says straight girl is worst because she’s a blanket hog. gay guy has to get up to pee early in the novel. those two are bffs from the start.

+ lesbian has a girlfriend who lives in a commune I think? she drives with the straight guy (who she doesn’t like at first) to visit her, straight guy expects the girlfriend to be smoking hot and is surprised by how average she is. girlfriend is implied to be cheating on the lesbian with another girl at the commune, and asks if they can have a “communist relationship” or “communist style relationship”

+ lesbian and straight guy have an affair, I think? she says something about how she wants his hands on her not because he’s a man but because he’s her friend

+ straight guy and straight girl star in a play and kiss many times for their role, I think this part has a confrontation between the lesbian and the straight girl? and they kiss at some point

+ straight girl is making out with a different guy, don’t remember anything about him except that the girl later finds out his boner was digging into her leg; she thought those were his keys

+ towards the end of the novel, the straight and gay guys kiss and someone remarks that now they’ve all kissed one another.

+ the straight girl is lamenting that she’s still a virgin, I think, and the gay guy tells her that if she hasn’t found anyone by the time she’s 18, he can be her first time, but she says that’d be like having sex with her teddy bear

He also said the first chapter is from the straight girl's PoV, and that the lesbian and straight guy come to grow close.

Wow, I'm super familiar with LGBT YA, and this has me totally stumped! When did your friend read it? "A long time ago" could mean anything from early 2000s to the '80s. Was it a USA-based story, or could it have taken place in a different country?
