Just completed my 1st selection - A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. This book was a bit slow for me at the beginning and the emotional turmoil between the two main characters was a bit much. However, about halfway through the book the action picked up and more information was shared with the reader regarding this world. Just spent the last five hours reading and couldn't put it down for a moment. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars1/3
Edit Message #23I am going to need to adjust my goal to 3. I'm having a hard time getting a hold of the last book I want to read for this challenge.
I'm needed to adjust my goal as well - I was overly ambitious with how much reading I would be able to do this quarter. I've finished 1 and will finish one other before the month is done. I'll leave the others to finish throughout the year.

It was a book that I was never quite sure of or was completely happy about, even though it did improve near-constantly from beginning to end, and even if I still found a lot to love about it regardless. I was still planning on reading Shadow of Night regardless, but it's good to know I can feel a little more secure about that now, thank you :)

Just completed my 2nd book - The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain. I appreciate how the author explained how hard it is for poor parents to take care of their children and the lengths desperation will push a person towards. However, the whole story wrapped up a bit too unrealistically for me. Worth reading, though. 3 stars2/3
Does "The Illustrated Man" work? Also, how does this challenge actually work? Sorry, I am very new to this.
-Karen
Karen this challenge is about previous group reads if "the illustrated man" is on the list it works. hope that helps!
Just completed my third and final book - Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind. I admire this work, not because of the subject matter, but rather due to the unusual, compelling writing style. Suskind writes a bit like his protagonist lives, with utter detachment from his subject in merely in focused pursuit of his goal. The writing was clear and uncluttered and quite enjoyable. Overall, definitely worth reading! 4 stars3/3 - challenge completed!
Updated message #65 - read 2/4 and won't be making my goal now seeing as the other two books are massive and there's only a few days left of March! Ah well, I really enjoyed the two books I did read! :)
Update: I finished "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" yesterday! That means I have read my 5/5 books! I am done. I was really worried for a minute that I wouldn't get to it. Very happy I did. By the way, this book was pretty freaking spectacular once I got over the writing style. Definitely recommend it. 4 stars.
Updated message #43 - finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. Wow - I really saved the best for last! 4/4 - challenge completed.
Completed my 4th book, almost done my 5th book so hopefully I'll finish that tomorrow. 4. Wool Omnibus
