Great questions! I'm not prepared to state my favorite book yet because I've read some freaking GREAT books this year. I exceeded my goal of 130 books, I'm around 137 now.
Sorry to hear about the Holmes pastiche.
I amazed myself by completing weeks ago, and I read a few huge books including the stand and under the dome which both took weeks, I'm about to finish 42 which is really good for me
Oh best book is a tough one but I'll go with wool by hugh howey and the worst was the husband's secret I think by liane moriarty I knew I should have given up on it
I fell far short but it was my own fault. I started the Complete Collection Of H.P.Lovecraft - 150 eBooks With 100+ Audio Book Links which is insanely long. I think i started the challenge a bit late, also. I was trying to hit 100 but even shortening it to 50 I'm only halfway there. The best would have to be either The Shining orA Dark Dividing. The worst would be split between The House Next Door and a short story called Bunny Sneaks. I'm currently in the middle of Dracula.
Hopefully the 2016 challenge goes better, I'm going for an amazon gift card for Christmas, lol, I've got some good looking books on there that i can't wait to get. :)
I read fewer books than last year, but there were some long ones in there, so I don't mind too much :-)
I have on read 36 of 50, I slowed down for some reason. I think The Amulet was my favorite this year and It was a toss up between Bryan Smith's Darkened or Depraved 2 for worst. I didn't hate them just...
Best is a tough call, because I read a number of great books this year around Halloween, but I think I'm going to say Tim Lebbon's The Silence. Just freakin' brilliant, definitely worthy of the praise it is getting. Honorable mention to Alice Walks, an excellent ghost story. Not sure about the worst. There were some audiobooks I didn't finish, but I've blocked them out. :-) Biggest disappointment (because I had reasonably high expectations, not because it was terrible) was The Border.
I didn't set a goal, but I hit around 75, mostly horror. I read a little urban fantasy, and like mystery audiobooks, though there is more horror out there on audio now - there didn't used to be.
I obliterated my goal of 52, but my count on goodreads is using a very loose definition of 'book' so I'd say probably in the 200-300 range with ~100 iffy. Best one would probably be Southern Gods or The Killing Kind 2. Worst is hard to define, probably Bloody Bank Heist Tim Miller and I seem to be on and off.
Nailed my target of 80 by reading 82.
Favourites in no particular order:
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy
Born to Fear: Interviews with Thomas Ligotti edited by Matt Cardin

I have smashed my target of 25 by reading 60 books this year. Up to 165th most read reviewer as well.Methinks I need to be more ambitious next year but I am going to have to revert to a Kindle as I am running out of room with books. Another trip down the charity shop beckons for the ones I definitely wouldn't read again.
"Congrats! You have read 691 books of a goal of 500!"Too many comics this year!
Best book read on 2015:
Best book was a tie. Death at SeaWorld was such a superb and thought provoking book. The death of Dawn Blancheau is a tragic damnation of the treatment of Orcas by SeaWorld and a harrowing yet brilliant read.Equally Unmeasured Strength by Lauren Manning is spellbinding. She was in the lobby when the plane struck the tower. Jet fuel shot down the liftshaft and ignited her and 2 others. They died and she survived with 82.5% burns. Her story regularly had me in tears and I feel humble reading her fight for life and recovery.
On the other hand the first turkey of the year was 9/11 by David R Griffiths. Conspiracy has never been so poorly handled and it screams hearsay. Love him to meet Lauren Manning and tell her the planes never struck the towers and was all set explosions.
The other was The Bone Collector which is a poor true paranormal story. Poorly written and badly organised. I couldn't wait for it to end.
Can't really settle for one favorite right now or worst book either but I definitely surpassed my original goal, which I am pretty amazed that I did.
Exceeded it, target was 160 and have read 163. Best book this year Cruelty by Edward Lorn, absolute 5 star read. Worst book was Corpalism by Arun. D. Ellis, I found this so poorly written and terribly edited. Can't wait for all the books I'm going to read in 2016!

What is the best book you've read this year? The worst?
As for me, I am right on schedule of one book per week for a total of 52. I will probably be one book ahead of that.
The best book I've read this year is Carrie. Not sure why it took me so many years to get around to this one. But, I finally did.
The worst book I read was a Sherlock Holmes pastiche, Sherlock Holmes, The Missing Years: Japan . Horrible!
