Weeeeeell, if it's on our tbr's , how do we know what the opening line is? ...unless we own it and have peeked ;)
Haha! No sorry Jools:) The male Aussie author has another crime series which takes place in the UK (his place of birth)
Here's the first paragraph of the blurb (with names out)
"Homicide detective ********* wouldn't usually be looking too hard at an elderly couple's suicide pact. Especially now, when his brother-in-law **** has just been stabbed to death. But it seems **** and the old couple had ties to the same man, a bent moneylender with friends in high places - and low."

Ok, it's Crucifixion Creek by Barry MaitlandNow bear with me while I do my quote, but after that I'm going to bed
Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun
Hmmm, sounds like it might be The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams...excellent choice Marianne! ;)
Here we go:"On the day of the miracle, Isabel was kneeling at the cliff's edge, tending the small, newly made driftwood cross."
Haha you're too good Marianne! This was a real favourite of mine..grippimg from the very first pages ;)
I know this one too, a favourite of mine set on an island off the WA Coast near Albany, a part of the coast I love and have visited many times. Will let Marianne have first guess :)
Oh no, I'm not guessing, I'm sure of the answer, but someone else could have a go. I'm sure you could give us a first line, Carolyn!
Here's one from another of my favourite books. I think a few people have read it :)"When the lights went off the accompanist kissed her."

I don't think I've read that one. It doesn't sound familiar...

Another from my top 5. - Rebecca"
You got it Rita. And if I'm not mistaken, it's also the last line :)
Your turn.
