“Hadrian’s smile widened into a grin. “For months we’ve ridden together while I’ve held whole conversations by myself. You’ve never joined in, and some of them were really good, too. You haven’t said a word, but now that I’ve stopped—look at you…yapping away.”“A single question isn’t yapping away.”
“But you expressed an interest. That’s huge!”
Royce shook his head. “I just thought there might be something wrong with you—obviously I was right.”
I love the banter in the first chapter, especially when narrated by TGR!---------
And while Hadrian was more than capable of killing any dog, Royce wondered if he would have.
It has puppies, Royce! Three of 'em!
---------
"Sure is coming down, isn't it?" Hadrian said.
"Oh, shut up."
"Farmer's wife back in Olmsted said it's the wettest spring in a decade."
"I'll slit your throat as you sleep. I really will."
It's just nice to be back. The banter is great.
So who does everyone suspect behind the murder attempts?

Fawkes is just so ripe for suspicion..
I agree I didn't trust Fawkes the minute he walked into the room, especially when he was trying to get rid of the painter right away.
The intimidation 'game' they played to save the priest was awesome too! The best part is it is by no way an exaggeration. "Now that you have met Hadrian, let me introduce myself. I'm the one you don't want to know".

That was awesome : )
I hope you are wrong Bill - I kind of like the painter. He's just so....arrogant? But sounds like maybe deservedly? I'm guessing the church (the employer).
Finally got my copy! I tried doing audio since I couldn't figure out downloading the ebook but I can't seem to do audio Loving the banter as well; so nice to be back with the boys.
My first thought was the painter since the goateed gentleman seemed too obvious. I like the church as the ones behind it as well
