WHEN: I borrowed the book from a library in 2008.
What reading level: children's chapter (8-12ish)
What the story is about: I don't remember any character names. I know it had magic. There was a child who moves with their family into a new home. There was a map I believe at the beginning of the book to show the area around the house. And there was either trolls, fairies, or elves involved in the magic, or some small magical creature as such. In the forest-y area next to the house is where theyd go into a different magic world.
What the genre is: fantasy
What format is the book in--dead tree
What i Remember most about the book is a physical description. The book isnt the same size as normal books in height. Its about square size. Its about an inch and a half thick. The cover is blue and its covered in a texture almost like velvet.
I believe there is even a second book in the series that has a red cover.
Any idea would be so helpful, thank you!

The series Little Fur has books which match the physical description, the first is The Legend Begins, but I've never read them so other than knowing they aren't totally unlike what you describe, I can't say. But they are the right thickness, have the velvety covers in blue and red (I think books 2 and 3), and some editions are more square in shape.

I think you just helped me find the book! I may have got the actual plot details mixed up but the description is correct and the book looks familiar. I'll have to find a copy soon to see if I remember reading it. Thank you!
