1. A book based on a fairy tale: The Girls at the Kingfisher Club

This was a take on the "Twelve Dancing Princesses" and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Aj, no worries! You don't need to update your post if you don't want - I never do.

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments You don't Cassandra? Do you just post the number? Or do you post your whole challenge every time in a new post?

message 357: by Cassandra (last edited Jan 05, 2016 02:42PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I keep the whole list in my challenge corner, which I update. Then I just post the book and the number. Something like this:

1. A book based on a fairy tale
Cinder - January 5
4 stars

1/40

(It's sometimes copy-pasted from my corner, plus I include the stars if I remember in case other are curious.)

That said, some of that is extra information that I just like to add. I'm totally fine as a challenge leader with a post that just says "1/40."

message 358: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments That's a great idea! Or I might update my first post once in a while with everything, but I spend way to much time updating :)

message 359: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I have a goofy system for when I finish a book:

1. Mark as complete/write review.
2. Copy-paste review into personal challenge area.
3. Update personal challenge statistics.
4. Look to see what challenges I was using this book for.
5. Update challenges in member corner.
6. If I have time, post updates in the challenge topics themselves. (I don't necessarily do that after every book.)

It's become a ritual for reflecting on a finished book before starting a new one. I'm kind of nuts though. :)

I do the exact thing too! To keep everything easier for me I have a written account of each challenge- that way I can just flip to the page and see which book is for which challenge. It's easy to lose track of posts on here after a while.

Task 39) A book that takes place on an island.

The Transcriptionist by Amy Rowland (4 stars)

The book takes place in Manhattan, which is an island!

19. A book from Oprah's Book Club - Night
33. A classic from the 20th century - I, Robot
40. A book that's guaranteed to bring you joy - Radiance

I have to say. I'm lucky with my picks this year. They were all wonderful reads. I've loved them all, albeit in a totally different way but still a great start.

In that case I must be kind of nuts too. I like these kind of rituals. Once you develop a ritual like these, it'll be less hard to forget one of the steps. I don't have book reviews in my corner thread though.

To keep track of which book I want to use for which challenge, I keep both the read and unread books in shelves and enter the category I want to use them for in the notes. That way, I can easily see how many books I have read for the challenge, and also how many books I still have planned for it.

I think it's amazing. I couldn't stop reading. I love the idea of virtual reality and I think in about 30 years, VR technology could come very close to what it is like in the book.

message 382: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I recommend Ready Player One to almost everyone for that reason. I think the technology is very feasible - Oculus Rift is being released soon at a $600 price point... It won't be long before the technology gets better and it will also start to come down in price.

VR is starting to get used for more than just games too. It is being used by real estate agents and in advertising. My favourite band, MUSE released their last music video in VR, and I think it won't be long before some version of VR is going to make it into television and movies. The engineer in me is very excited about this kind of stuff
