Jill | 69 comments I read this series in elementary school (early to mid 1970's). Book may have been from 50's or 60's. They were chapter books and all I remember is that a boy and his family moved to the moon. The book is about his adventures (I think with his dog). There were black and white illustrations (something like Louis Slobodkin style). It is not the mushroom planet series. It was like a colony of earth people that moved to the moon.

Jill | 69 comments Books were not picture books. it was a series; seem to remember boy wearing a space suit and kind of floating above ground. Just sort of everyday adventures. The phrase "lunar boy" keeps running through my mind. It would be juvenile fiction. The books were in our school library.

Amanda (misterfive) | 215 comments Two thoughts, though neither book is really a match of what you describe:

The Lost Race of Mars by Robert Silverberg has very similar illustrations to Slobodkin, but it is about a brother and sister who move to a Martian colony rather than a Moon colony, of course. (Not a series, either.)

The Matthew Looney series by Jerome Beatty Jr, except it's native Moon people, and not humans who moved to the Moon. The images aren't quite the same style, but one cover of Matthew Looney's Voyage to the Earth has him in a space suit hovering in space.

Pets feature in both, though in one case it's a cat (maybe a Martian cat?) and in the other it's something more turtle-like.

Both would be the right time frame.

Jill | 69 comments Amanda, Thank you for the suggestions. I will check into both of them and report back.

Jill | 69 comments Amanda,
It was the Matthew Looney series I had read as a child. I did get the first one through the library and the author also rang a bell when seeing the cover. So I've changed to solved. Thanks again!
