Gianna Finished! Didn't think I'd actually find the time to post. I read For the Love of Caden. I found this series by accident. Fell in love immediately. The previous book didn't quite grab me like the first 4. This one drew me back. I'm excited for the series again. Camden: yummy. I'll post more when I have more time.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Great story - engrossed by start to finish. Hard to believe people had to live like that in the 60's. Loved the characters of Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny - most of the white woman not so much. Would love a sequel. Have not seen the movie and don't intend to.

Catherine you can't use the book that you're partway through unless you started it after the roll or start at the beginning knowing it fits the roll.

Gianna I believe I did that, JoAnne but I will double-check just in case. With so much going on I've been a little scatterbrained than I usually am. So anytime anyone notices something, please bring it to my attention.

Sorry if I missed it - I checked again but still don't see it - only on post 57 above. When I came home from a workshop today I didn't feel well and went right to bed at 5pm! So not like me. Just got up 10 minutes ago. Got rid of the pounding headache but still have a dullness there and queasiness seems gone but still don't feel 100% so will be going back to bed very shortly.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

message 75: by JoAnne (new)

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Sorry - that's why I didn't see it. Everyone starts a new thread. This was buried in week one info.

message 76: by Gianna (new)

Gianna That's how everything gets lost...by constantly starting a new thread. Every team challenge I've been on you claim one spot and update from there. I'm going to message Jenne about it though.

message 77: by JoAnne (new)

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Gianna wrote: "That's how everything gets lost...by constantly starting a new thread. Every team challenge I've been on you claim one spot and update from there. I'm going to message Jenne about it though."

Great - thanks. I know it's always hard to find my threads. I actually keep a cheat sheet now.

message 78: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I have all the contests I'm in linked on a thread in one of the groups I'm in. I use excel to keep track of all the books I need to read and for which challenge. Plus it's all written down in a binder as well. Otherwise I would never know what I'm supposed to read or where it's supposed to go.

message 79: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments lol...I never know what's going on!! :) good thing you guys know what you're doing!

message 80: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I did hear back from Jenne. She said that I can just continue to update my original post. But she also said to make a new one with each new roll. I'm going to keep my original post updated...that will help me keep track of what week is completed and all that. But I'll also make a new post each week for the roll, which I'm about to do now.

message 81: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I'm about halfway through Bad Company (Bad in Baltimore, #1) by K.A. Mitchell . If I didn't have to get up in a few hours I would keep reading. I'm hoping to finish tomorrow but that goes by my editing schedule.

message 82: by JoAnne (new)

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments I should finish my book today too. Have three more to get through for other challenges by Wednesday midnight.

Gianna - you are much more organized than I am. Tried a spreadsheet, didn't work for me. I keep a pad near the computer for books I have to review for one site with due dates + another pad with challenges I'm in and where my posts are.

message 83: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I'm a classic Type A personality with a minor OCD tendency. Nothing that's out of control or anything like that.

message 84: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I finished Bad Company (Bad in Baltimore, #1) by K.A. Mitchell ! Former best friends, turned enemies (prior to the beginning of the books) reuniting. You do find out what happened that made them into enemies, which is something that isn't often given. I absolutely loved this story. This is one of those stories where you watch the changes happen. And you can't wait for the main characters to come to terms with it. Then when they finally do, you jump up and shout, "Yes!" (which I nearly did). This is not insta-lust or even full of sex. There's a lot of tension though. Can't wait for the next installment!

message 85: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments you guys! Gianna...I am a bit anal about certain things...but my books/challenges are not in that category! Joanne..you are way more organised than I!!! I always forget what challenges I am in..not group ones)...but regular annula/monthly/quarterly ones...and usually (unless I am on the first page(1-50) I forget where my post is! so I spend a lot of time searching for my post...before I can update it! I think it would be helpful if everyone ONLY updated their original posts....and also if the mods could make links like in some of the challenges...where they list all the people taking part....and link the name the that post! that is always helpful :)

message 86: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments that said! lol I am halfway through my book...hopefully will be done later tonight :)

Finished 4/27/14

Against the Wind (The Raines of Wind Canyon, #1) by Kat Martin Against the Wind (The Raines of Wind Canyon #1) by Kat Martin

Rating: ★★★★

Review: Kat Martin has been on my TBR pile for a long time. Enjoyable read with lots of layers to the characters - especially Sarah - and the storyline. Set in LA and Wyoming with lots of descriptions to visualize the scenes. Jackson was too good to be true and Sarah finally realized how lucky she was to have him, his brothers and his ranch hands on her side. Holly was adorable. There was the happily ever after nicely set out in the epilogue. Can't wait to read books 2 and 3 in the series - Gabe and Dev's stories.

Yes, the ones that put links for your original post does help out a lot. But I know sometimes GoodReads has issues and it doesn't always work when you click on it. Which is why I keep a back up post. And I'm currently in 40 challenges. Most of them are yearly or no end date ones though. I like the bigger, longer ones better than the monthly ones. If anyone was to try to understand how I have things organized on my computer, they would probably never figure it out. Nothing is labeled how you would expect it to be. Everything is password-protected. My husband tells me I'm insane. No, I'm not insane. I just don't want anyone to mess with my computer. I edit/beta read books for a living. I can't have someone hacking into my computer (I have military grade security on it too) or even accidentally changing or deleting files. But beyond my computer, books (ebook and print), challenges I'm not that organized like this.

lol!!! so...you edit for a publishing company! how exciting! you must get to see a lot of new authors...and more books than you can handle!!! lol

no...not insane! but probably close! I don't do very many monthly challenges wither...simply because I forget about them! I love the yearly (or longer) challenges...and I am doing a lot of them....and I try to keep up with all of them...but occasionally I forget one or two....and find out that I've forgotten to update!!!

I work at an animal hospital....I am a vet tech (nurse) and I love it...so reading is my down time!

message 91: by Gianna (new)

Gianna I wish I was with a publishing company. I'm building up my resume for that now though. I do freelance actually right now. But I have worked with some multi-published, and popular, authors who are always helping me out to become better. What I would love is to start my own publishing company though.

My daughter wants to be a vet, if she doesn't make it as a professional softball player. And she would love to work with marine animals but knows she has to start with basic vet services first. But that would be a really cool job I think.

I want to b a vet too...but it is sooooo difficult to get into vet school...if I could just get in!

message 93: by Gianna (new)

Gianna Why is it difficult to get into a vet school? We haven't done that much research on it but maybe we should start now so she is prepared.

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Gianna - how old is your daughter? Any other kids?
Catherine - kids? where do you work?
Rhonda - feel free to jump in the conversation too.

I was an accountant in my previous life for 15 years which is how my husband and I met (before having my now 23 year old son), became a stay at home mom doing all the PTA and soccer mom stuff. Worked as a substitute teacher occasionally as well as a para a few times. When a new elementary school opened in town 11 years ago I applied to be the school year secretary - summers off as well as vacation weeks.
I write reviews for Romancing-the-Book.com and RomanceJunkies.com I love getting free books and ebooks; have authors that now approach me to see if I'd like to receive their book to review; was a Fool's Gold Cheerleader for 2 summers for Susan Mallery and am on street teams for Lisa Kleypas and Sabrina Jeffries. I love talking about books to anyone who will listen. I participate in 5 other challenges - 1 monthly, 1 quarterly and 3 annual.

Book: Billy Boyle A World War II Mystery (Billy Boyle World War II, #1) by James R. Benn by James R. Benn

Rate: 5 stars

Review: this is a brand new author and series for me! I love historical fiction, and crimes fiction....this encompasses everything :) Billy Boyle is. Boston cop who is thrown into WWII England as the first wave of Americans were sent to join the war effort. I love how every clue he gets brings him related clues...and without prompting, he puts all the clues together to find the guilty person. And I like how Billy Boyle is portayed as an innocent young man....not worldly at all...and he gets his footing slowly. I can't wait to get to the next book.
