Week 6
Finished : May 25th

The Empty Glass by J.I. Baker 3 stars
I was really looking forward to this book to get another perspective about Marilyn Monroe's life but this book was so incredibly confusing. It was told by the Coroner and he becomes obsessed with the case and it takes over his life, making him become paranoid and delusional so through the book between him and Marilyn you really can't believe anything is going on, or if they are getting the information right. I did enjoy though the little snipits of information about people around Marilyn's life like the Mafia connected people, the Teamsters, the President , other celebrities. So it wasn't a total loss and the ending does make it come together eventually. This was just ok for me I guess I probably wouldn't be too fast to recommend this to others though because if the disorganization , it is just frustrating and also there are parts that are really pretty graphic and not it the best of ways. Soo , Ill just leave it at that :O) and move on to another Marilyn story later.

message 324: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks :O) Melissa , I haven't , but I was super interested in Black Dahlia & White Rose Stories by Joyce Carol Oates and the story about the two women together but then it changed to other short stories that I didn't enjoy but I am planning on listening to The Blonde by Anna Godbersen next month which is a fictional story about her, I think this will really be amazing but I still want to find a really good nonfiction book about her life but with my TBR already overloaded it might be a bit anyway. :O)

Alternate: Author J
Read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green John Green
Finished: 05/27/14
Rated: ★★★★★

Review:
Hazel Grace is 16 years old and she's now had cancer for 3 years. The odds say there's 20% chance of her surviving more than 5 years. Hazel, meets Augustus at the Cancer Kid Support Group, and they soon fall in love.
I'm still quite a mess after finishing this book. It was beautifully written and really sad at the same time. I don't really know what to say other than the last 60 pages or so were really hard to get through, mainly cos I was crying so much I couldn't see. I'd want anyone to read it who hasn't, just that they're prepared for it.
I just discovered another great author in John Green, and hope to read more from him in the future.

Elle Week 6 - Spot 50
Completed: 05/27/14
Rated: 3.5★
High Five (Stephanie Plum, #5) by Janet Evanovich

The 5th book in the Stephanie Plum series and Evanovich changes the pace a little. There isn't a prime FTA (failure to appear) that she is after. Funds are low, her uncle Fred is missing and Ramirez is out on parole. She decides to join Rangers team to earn some cash in his menagerie of "security" and "renovating" jobs. Between the jobs and trying to find her Uncle, she goes through her usual trend of laughable near-death experiences from bombs, dodging bullets, and having unwanted "guests" in her apartment. There are a couple of new faces that show up; the midget/little man who makes Stephanie use her gun after a long while and the "bookie" who she suspects is lying about his involvement in the case of her uncle. Her uncle's disappearance is tangled up in more than she bargained for and Morelli and his team are working the case from a different end not knowing how the web is connected until all fingers point to the one who has become a trigger-happy crook with blood on his hands. This was another fun one.

Anita Reads | 436 comments I think it has premiere here in Denmark next month.
My sisters won't go see it with me, they thought the acting looked forced in the trailer.

It's always hard to catch the spirit of the book.
I just saw to my horror, that Vampire Academy has been deleted from the cinemas upcoming movies here in Denmark. It was supposed to be showed in June. So I'll just have to wait until the movie gets out :(

message 332: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Bummer about the Vampire Academy. You'll have to find someone to go with you to Fault in our Stars :)

I'm at 85% with my book. Sorry, with all the relatives in and all the activities it has not been a great book reading week. I will be done and do my review by tonight. Hoping to get much done on my lunch hour.

Review: With each book I love Roan and his crazy cast of characters more and more. Roan is trying to deal with him becoming more lion or lion becoming more him - he's not really sure. His virus is adapting or he is adapting to his virus - again he's not sure. Along the way he figures out two cases - one a murdered trans women where he makes friends with almost the whole Falcons hockey team. The other a pretentious asshole looking for his missing son. Dylan gives him an ultimatum. His house gets mozoltov cocktailed by Nazi supremacists. Fun times with Holden aka Fox. Yep - this book has it all. Along with glimpses of Paris in Roan's dreams. Loved it - looking forward to the next one.

Another solid entry into the series. I really enjoy the mystery, the romance and the chemistry between all the characters. This series has been a breath of fresh air for me and has breathed life back into PNR for me. I am sad I only have 2 more books left in this series.

Yeah aparrently VA had gotten a bad reputation in the US. There wasn't enough watching the movie. I just love the books so much, so I have to see the movie at some point.

Yeah, I might go see it with my cousin. I don't know yet.

Nice job at finishing your book :)

@Nika - Glad you got another great book. It's not a series I've heard about. Maybe I should check it out :)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Not sure yet what I'll read - I was hoping for an 11 or 12 roll as I have a 1 or 2 book I wanted to read. Oh well.

@Nika - yeah classes done!! Today is my son's last day of "school" - they just have graduation rehearsal on Mon in am and then they go to Great America - must be nice :)

@Anita - can you guys get movies through cable when they are released? No clue how cable/movie getting works in Denmark? Hubby and I usually Redbox movies that we miss in the theatres as we are cheap and they are about $1.50 a night. Movies on our cable box range from free to (I think) $6 a show. Too much $$ for my hubby, lol.
