Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments The alternates:
Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location .
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

Sheila (sheilaj) oooh! I'm on team # 1 again!! Good omen??? Hi team

message 6: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments Hello everyone. I just want to make sure I'm the right Jennifer? The other Jennifers were J and C and the only other Jennifer just had Jennifer....so I assume I'm in the right spot?

I'm very excited to be reading with you all. Just a heads up, I live in Arizona. Not sure what time zone you guys are in, but time zone was a little bit of an issue on my last team because they were all Europe or East Coast. So just a heads up, I'm not ignoring anything, I'm just not awake yet :)

message 7: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Nice to meet you Jennifer. I'm in Illinois so we are probably only an hour difference.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello Team! I'm in Arizona too. Last round was my first time in a team challenge. I saw that the team that won last time read their last books in a day! Wow! (Sheila, we're you on that winning team?) So I'm going to try to finish my books much faster this round.

message 9: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Nice to meet you Talia. Yep I was captain of the Ones to Beat last time. It was an amazing team. I think we all posted our books over the weekends almost every week. Some of the members of the team were in something like 4 or 5 TEAM challenges at once. No way could I do that.

Any suggestions for a team name or captain?

message 10: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments Hello Talia. It's nice to meet you. You too Sheila.
Let me think about team names. My only request is that I'm not team captain. I've been having to work 50 to 60 hour weeks, plus I'm in school (graduate in May) and I'm also planning a wedding for June, so I'm already juggling a lot. I can read a book in a day or two so there isn't a problem with me reading fast, I just don't want to be captain and be responsible with so much else going on.

message 11: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Wow Jennifer. With all that is going on in your life, it is surprising you even know your own name. Is the wedding your wedding?

message 12: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments Sheila wrote: "Is the wedding your wedding?"

Yes, it's my wedding and I'm very excited but at the same time I'm ready for it to be over. It's exhausting.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals, Jennifer! I hope your wedding turns out beautifully. I vote for Sheila for team leader since her team won last time. Good luck for us! :). I'm drawing a blank on name ideas, but I'll keep thinking.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Here are a few name ideas:

The Lucky Ones
Ready Player Ones
The Power of Ones
The Right Ones
Love the Ones You're With

Thank you! I hope so too. I also agree, Sheila for president lol

message 17: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) It sounds like I won the election and I didn't even know I was running! lol

Actually since I am recently retired being the captain of our team isn't a big deal.

I also very much like The Lucky Ones. So if everyone agrees I will be the proud captain of The Lucky Ones.

I will pm Lisa tomorrow night if she hasn't checked in yet by then.

Not in that group Talia but Goodreads is my second home. My main challenge is The Seasonal Reading Challenge

That must be it! I'm in the Seasonal Reading Challenge too. I'm not very good at that challenge yet, but one of these seasons I hope to complete a good number of those tasks!

message 23: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments I'm on there too but I haven't posted this season so far.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Jennifer wrote: "I'm on there too but I haven't posted this season so far."

Great! It will be nice to see two faces I know on there whenever I get back to that challenge :).

message 25: by Sheila (last edited Apr 16, 2014 02:24AM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) You probably recognize me because I generally am a task creator on the SRC. I have another 10 books to read to finish this season. I love trying to fit the books/series that I am working on into the cute tasks.

I've declared 2014 the year of the series for me. My goal is to complete 30 series this year which is why this game is a perfect fit. I have so many series in play that no matter what number is rolled I have a series book that will fit the slot.

That's what I'm trying to do this year too. While I have so much going on, I'm trying to read all the cozy mystery series books that I have because they're shorter and don't take as much concentration. And I'm also trying to finish the Dresden Files series. I started it in November.

Lisa Hey, I'm here!!! Sorry it took so long to get with you, early night last night!!! I'm in Ohio so I'm EST. Just let me know what you need me to do! I really want to do the Seasonal Challenge, but I got so confused I gave up :( Can you start any time of the year??

Hi Lisa. Nice to meet you. I'm pretty sure you can start by season, but I'll let Sheila tell you for sure since I'm more of a dabbler in that challenge. What part of Ohio are you in? I grew up there, in Kent. My uncle has a B&B in Ravenna.

message 29: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Lisa you can start the Seasonal Reading Challenge at any time. Yesterday was midpoint of the spring challenge. Just look at the tasks and fill in the books you are wanting to read anyway and read at your own speed. You do have to sign up for what is called a Readerboard name since I am sure there is more than one Lisa doing the challenge. So you might want something like Lisa Ohio. New task days for the season are some of my favorite days of the year because I enjoy finding the books to fit the tasks amongst my series books that I am planning anyway.

message 30: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Now that we are all here I have just one request as your captain. When I roll the dice which will be prior to 9 am Central time (usually much earlier since I am a hopeless insomniac). Will you please post a link to what you are going to read for the week and then when you post your review use the same post as your original one. That allows me to do the linking up posts ahead of time. Then just post a new message saying you updated your original post. Clear as mud?

I'm excited to get started. I think it will be very helpful that we are all in the US. The last challenge I was in had members in Serbia and Australia.

message 31: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Lisa have you done this challenge before?

I anyone else doing the fate/quest challenge?

I haven't done this challenge before , so just tell me what to read and I'll do it!---just like battleship haha. I tried to do the fate/quest challenge, but I am in SOOOOO many challenges and those books just were not fitting into my schedule.

Oh nice. My cousin is a teacher in Columbus. I've been there before with my sister and brother in law. He used to work at this family Italian restaurant. I'll have to find out the name of it, but it was the best restaurant sauce I've ever had.

3 different gr groups are doing a cross group challenge and you pick up quests along the way depending on which door you choose to go through so everyone participating will essentially be determining their own fate so to speak. It is an individual challenge sponsored by Wacky Reading Challenges ,
A Million More Pages , and All Challenges. It is pretty well designed. I am having a blast completing the quests. It is designed by Abbie who is doing this challenge as well.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2457 comments Hi, everyone .... I'm not doing the challenge this time around but I was on Sheila's winning team last round. So I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines!

message 39: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Thanks BC. How come you passed on this one. It is one of the easier team ones imho.

message 40: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Is everyone ready to get going on the challenge? I actually got up early this morning thinking it was Friday and I was ready to roll the dice before I realized - duh, it's Thursday you ditz. For some reason I have been messed up on days all week. When you are retired one day is pretty much the same as the last. At least that is the excuse I will use this time. haha

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm going to read the alternate choice of a White Cover this week

Snake Skin (Lucy Guardino FBI Thriller, #1) by C.J. Lyons Snake Skin by C.J. Lyons 4/20 4 ✿✿✿✿

I only found this one because it was suggested as a buddy read with my friend Betsy and I think it was kindle freebie. New author, new series.

Lots going on here and lots of snakes -eewwww. Let's see there is needy and incredibly stupid teenagers, parents that are a piece of work, a couple of psyches, a reporter that I wanted to choke and oh yes the MC, who is an FBI special agent trying to take down the killer and kidnapper of young women. Meanwhile her own daughter is sick and in the hospital so she is very conflicted whether to be on the job with the family or on the job with her team. I give it 4 stars.

message 47: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Okay everyone - here we go. Our choices this week are to read a # 9 in a series book or a book with a white cover. Please post what you plan to read and then use the same post when you finish and post your reviews so that I can create the linking post ahead of time. Please include a rating and a date finished as well. Thanks.

Week 1 - Spot 9

Book:
Aunt Dimity Snowbound (An Aunt Dimity Mystery, #9) by Nancy Atherton Aunt Dimity: Snowbound by Nancy Atherton, Book #9 in the Aunt Dimity series.
Date finished: 04/22/14
Rating: ♥♥♥
Review:
Lori is out taking a walk through the English countryside when an unexpected blizzard causes her to seek refuge in an abandoned abbey. There she encounters two other Americans who are also seeking shelter from the storm. But Lori grows suspicious that one of these hikers might actually be a burglar intending to rob the uninhabited home of its valuables. They meet the house's caretaker who tells them that the deceased owner of the house would never had let Americans stay there because of a great, mysterious betrayal that had taken place that the lady of the house never got over. What was this great betrayal, and why did it make the lady of the house hate Americans? And are these hikers really who they say they are, or is one of them a thief? I enjoyed this mystery. I guessed some things right but was completely wrong on a couple things. It was an enjoyable read.

Lisa Week 1

A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark, #1) by Jocelyn Davies

Rating**
Finished 4-20-14
I must be getting sick and tired of Paranormal YA because they are all starting to sound alike. Girl doesnt know she has physic powers, 2 boys come to earth to protect her, and the end is a cliff hanger. The cover is beautiful, but I won't be reading the sequel.

message 50: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Lisa I am linking your book and it says it is book 1 of a series. Are you going for the white cover?
