I finished my last book for the challenge -
This is a wonderful series with great characterization. Looking forward to the next installment, which comes out in July.

No idea why this one was such hard going for me, it was quite a good story and fairly well written. Guess it just happens sometimes.

Lauren, I'm confused as to why I remain at zero in this latest update. Here's a link to my updated, original post from several weeks back.

If there's something else I need to do, please advise.
Sorry about that, Carol.

I LOVE this series! and I agree tho lengthy they move apace.

Mist of Midnight by Sandra Byrd.
Great mystery reminiscent of Jane Eyre/Victoria Holt.

That's been my favorite category as well. I think it's partially because it's so huge!

I was very disappointed in The Infidel Strain, Benjamin. I'm not certain why she's continuing with these two characters who have no chemistry and aren't particularly likable. Carter's editor should have reduced it by a good 75 pages. Most important, Carter didn't have a story she needed to tell. The mystery was convoluted and uninteresting. Too many random characters and dead folk about whom we do not care. And now you know why I am waiting to write a review until I can find a couple of nice things to say, so Ndont provoke a response of, "who peed on you Wheaties." Lol
I'm not in for #3, assuming Infidel sells well enough to justify it, which is not a certainty, until and unless a couple of reliable discerning friends vet it first.
But enough about me...

I was very disappointed in The Infidel Stain...
Oh, no! I agree, the chemistry wasn't as good as I thought it was in Strangler Vine, and the story overall was weaker. Well, Blake & Avery 3 is coming around the end of the year last I heard (from the author on Twitter a few months back), I'm certainly willing to give it a try, so you can count on me if you get curious about a review.

It's a fairly decent mystery, but this time period is really hit-and-miss for me. I have a feeling a lot of people will like the book, but it didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would. So far Priscilla Royal is the only one that I've been really invested in (I haven't tried Ellis Peters yet). It may be that it's been an off-week for me, so I'll decide on whether I continue when the next installment is released.

I agree. I read one more and then put the series aside, at least for now.

I loved this book! If you like Rhys Bowen's Molly Murphy series, you will most likely enjoy this. It takes place in 1910 Toronto. The mystery addresses the plight of immigrants and corrupt politicians. It also has many witty, laugh out loud moments.
I can't wait to read more in this series.
