Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks The Sunshine When She's Goneis finished. The jacket spoke of humor but it was humorless. The main couple had few redeeming qualities and I don't think they would be relate-able to most people. Hmmm, there might be a reason this was underrated!
Tien is up and I will send her a pm.

The description sounds funny, father taking baby for R&R in the Caribbean... hah! The cynical side of me is thinking that he's thinking of picking up chicks ;p

Thanks for the PM, Debi - guess what, I've already forgotten what I chose this morning, lol, good thing I've put a reminder on this thread. Will start tomorrow morning as I'm out this evening :)

I've finished my book, Drive By. 4.5 stars; terrifically complex twist with mind blowing conclusion. totally a work of genius! Highly recommended for crime fans. I just got a little frustrated at times with the characters but otherwise actually enjoyed their voices...

I've sent Dionisia a pm for her turn.

Lyn M, I think it's your turn :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Sorry ladies, this weekend was both my dad's 84th birthday and my oldest son's 25th birthday. As a result, I did not get ANY reading done at all. I am just starting The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress by Ariel Lawhon and No Safe House by Linwood Barclay. Since both were published in 2014, I will use whichever one I finish first. Let you know as soon as I finish.

that shouldn't be hard, Dee... I'm sure you have stacks on review books to be read :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
That is what I am reading. A review book. :)

message 112: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i do...its figuring out, just which book I want...

question, can an ARC that will be published in 2014 count? or does it already need to be out...

message 113: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
ARC is fine, Dee, so long as book to be pub soon (this year)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Turns out that my Linwoood Barclay book is not really a stand alone, so I am waiting to get the preceding book from the library today or tomorrow. But I did just finish The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress for this challenge. WHOOHOO! The book was great, based on the true life disappearance of Judge Joe Crater in 1930, an event the precipitated the fall of Tammany Hall in NYC. It was well written and got me interested enough in this incident that I already ordered two other books about it from the library.

Dee you are UP!

message 115: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments going to go with Rosalind James' newest (I got the ARC, but like 2 days before it came out - even with my speed-reading that is a bit beyond me:) )

Just Not Mine

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Sounds good, Dee. Hope you enjoy it.

Interesting! Had to add it since it's set in NZ... don't see many of those around. Have you enjoyed the whole series so far, Dee?

Checked out the first book... male protagonist being the All Blacks Captain? hhmm... YUM! ;D

message 118: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments I like them - book 5 was a bit ehhh - but i've enjoyed the rest for waht they are - decently written contemp romance - and you can tell she knows her stuff when it comes to rugby - the prequel just came out, which has much more rugby in it - she also has a contemp series set in the US

message 119: by Grace (new)

Grace (jetzin) Dee and Amy, read slowly please! ;) I've two books on their way but I'm worried neither will be here on time!

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments haha! i have to play Navy this weekend, so i'm not sure how much reading time i'll have

Amy | 2241 comments I have an audiobook ready to go, but I'll be listening with my husband who slows me down considerably. It will likely take us 3 or 4 days to get through 6 disks.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Sounds like you should be okay, Grace? Hope your books get here soon.

message 123: by Grace (new)

Grace (jetzin) Thanks Dee, Amy and Lynne. :) I hope one is here on time. I'm just wishing lots of lovely distractions to Dee and Amy in the mean time! I've got one book on hold at the library and the other is on its way from the US to Australia.

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks Wow, sorry guys I had no idea it was my turn. I just came on to see how things were moving along.
I bought To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris during my coastal vacation from an independent seller in Solvang, CA. Will start tonight.

Debi - No worries, it isn't even your turn for a while. Currently it is Dee who is reading. Grace was just asking Dee and Amy to read slow so that her books have time to get here. So you still have a bit of time. Dee has to finish, then Amy, then Grace.

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks i guess I read an old post. Ooops!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
No worries. Just wanted to make sure you weren't stressing out. :)

message 128: by Grace (new)

Grace (jetzin) Sorry to have confused you Debi. I need not have stressed - one of my books is already here. :)

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks I have gone from not receiving my library books in time to now I have ALL of them at once!!! Plus the ones I bought on my trip and the ones my daughter has loaned me.
Oh well, it's a reading bonanza at my house. :P

message 139: by Grace (new)

Grace (jetzin) Thanks Amy.

I'm going to read: The Moor: Lives, Landscape, Literature by William Atkins published earlier this year.

It has lots of L's in it and it's already been shelved under nature twice so it's a great fit for my scatter shelves. :)

message 140: by Grace (last edited Aug 24, 2014 02:02AM) (new)

Grace (jetzin) I've just finished The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers, and Foodies Are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet by Kristin Ohlson. I found The Moor long and slow going so when book no. 2 arrived, I switched. The Soil Will Save Us was an inspirational and optimistic read. I recommend it for anyone interested in climate change, agriculture or food security. Debi is up. I'll pm her now.

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks Yay, my turn. Will read To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris. This is a new author for me.

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks Finished To Rise Again At A Decent Hour. This book was way out there but I fell for the review blurbs. Next time I'll research a bit more before starting a new author!
Anyhow, it's Tien's turn. Will msg her.

Thanks, Debi. Sorry you didn't enjoy your book more :(

I'll be reading Mothers Grimm

Dogsandbooksanddogsandbooks Tien, I have enjoyed sooo many new authors and books since joining pick a shelf and the hopscotch game this year, a couple of duds are to be expected. Overall, I'm thrilled with the new reading experiences I've had. It's all good!

I've finished Mothers Grimm. 3.5 stars - actually is very good but bad timing for me. Reading about just how tough motherhood can be (even by loose fairy tale retelling) is harsh when I'm facing birth pains and sleepless nights in less than 7 weeks!

Dionisia is next.

For the last book of the game, I will be reading Little Mercies, which I was going to start today anyway. Good timing.
