EllenZReads I have a 2016 challenge with another group, but am looking forward to also doing this one!

This is a reference to the smarmy bookstore display that contained only blue books with a sign that read "I don't remember the title, but it's blue", put out by Blue Willow Bookshop in Huston, Texas. It flew around Pintrest/Instagram/Facebook/Tumblr for quite a while in 2015.

I just imported an excel document into Google spreadsheets and it was insanely easy!! Plus, it was totally editable and shareable once it was imported. :D

Oh my gosh I didn't even get the reference!!! Now I kind of hate it. But I don't hate it, because I'm excited about the book I chose for this category. All the conflicted feelings!!

message 56: by Zee (new)

Zee (azizanurul) | 8 comments Hey all. This is my first time doing the popsugar reading challenge!

For this challenge, I want to start by doing the fairytale one. I'm planning to read Stardust by Neil Gaiman, but I don't really know whether Stardust is a fairytale book or not. Other fairytale books that I plan to read are Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Which one do you think should I read?

For the home state challenge, I don't understand what it means. Can anyone tell me what is it?

Sorry for my bad English.

message 57: by Malgorzata (new)

Malgorzata (therealmadmags) | 24 comments I finished this year's challenge without much planning, but this year, I think I'll plan ahead more. I'm doing two challenges in 2016 - this one and Around the Year in 52 books - and I'm sure I can find a few books that fit into some category in both challenges.

Also, what does a person from outside the US do about number 5? Change "home state" to... what? Home country?

Melody | 208 comments Malgorzata wrote: "lso, what does a person from outside the US do about number 5? Change "home state" to... what? Home country? .."

It depends on where you live. If you live in India or Australia you would still do states. If you lived in Japan it would be prefecture, UK would be county, Canada would be province, France would be region, etc etc

Here's to more reading in 2016,

I love this idea, Nadine! My sister and I did 2015, and didn't quite finish, so we added a category for a book from the 2015 list that we didn't read. We also added a historical mystery, a science non-fiction book, and a book we anticipate for more than 2 months. Still thinking of a few more categories. What did you add?

message 64: by Aria (last edited Jan 05, 2016 08:29AM) (new)

Aria (snowwhitehatesapples) Hello everyone!

Because I'm completely in love with the pictured reading challenge list on Popsugar's website, and that I was rather disappointed that their provided printable version wasn't the exact one, I've done some editing and made an A4-sized version.

It's available here for those looking for it as well. Just right click on the picture, open it on a new tab and you'll get the full size :)

Happy reading!

message 65: by Amy (new)

Amy (amy_cnc) | 7 comments I found the 2015 challenge late and then failed miserably when life got in the way of my reading time. Hopefully, I will do better this year. I'm glad that there are fewer challenges as my reading time is limited. I'm not super thrilled at some of the prompts, but will try to find something interesting to fill those. My plan is to start with books that I already own as I want to clear some things off my TBR shelf. Good luck everybody.

Try JD Robb's In Death Series, Naked in Death is the first. It is a suspense with a murder component, but the romance is definitely there!!

message 68: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I haven't seen any of the Popsugar Reading Challenges before and when I found this on New Years Day, I got so excited! With adult life in the way, I don't read nearly as much as I used to. But I'm hoping to change that this year!

I'm cheating a little bit and including quite a few re-reads, but I've made sure to include books I normally wouldn't have picked up. (Not looking forward to the poetry category however...)

I was hoping someone could help me with the "Book with a protagonist with your occupation"? I work in accounting/reception and I cannot find a book for the life of me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The National Book Award is a specific award, although it is an award of US literature. I think every one of these categories is open to personal interpretation, however, and I just try to stay with the "spirit" of the challenge categories. So reading a book that won a different prize is just fine in my eyes, especially since the one you're looking at is a "National Book Award" of another country, it is perfectly in the spirit of the challenge.

So far my favorite I've read is The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins! I read it in a day (didn't use it for that one though). I remember opening the book and then it was after 12 the next afternoon! I didn't sleep, dinner was a cold cut sandwich. Love love loved it! However, I bought it full price at BNB (I usually get books from thriftbooks.com) went to the Goodwill yesterday for more books and found TGOTT sitting there for 1.91!!! Hate I missed that deal! Go over to the "how to complete a lot of prompts by reading a series" and post there and/or create a thread for GoT or "Song of Ice and Fire" as I'm told the diehards call the series.

I've watched the show but not read the books but I think you could use some of these prompts if you haven't filled them yet:

* NY Times bestseller
* More than 600 pages
* A science fiction novel
* recommended by a family member
* graphic novel (there are several)
* takes place during summer (if Winter is coming, wouldn't the first few books be during summer?)
* blue cover (A Game of Thrones has a blue cover)
* from the library
* takes place on an island
* guaranteed to bring you joy

Fall in the ASOIAF books is signaled to start at the beginning of A Clash of Kings (the second one), so only AGoT counts for summer.

Texas teacher here. There are so many books that fit this category. I was reading Villette for a book club I'm in and the protagonist becomes a teacher so I counted it for both! Bronte may not be your cup of tea, but for teachers, this category is wide open! Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Up the Down Staircase are both good!

Booklover | 55 comments I've been doing the Popsugar challenge on my own all year, and I'm excited to find a group for it. I found a lot of slots that I was going to leave blank and I altered the list so I don't have a bunch of blank spots. For example, number 16 "A political memoir" I changed to "A book about time travel." I wouldn't fulfill that challenge slot otherwise. Is that acceptable to do in the group or is it preferred that I just leave it blank?

message 99: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments I don't think anyone in this group is doing that, but here is another group I'm participating in that might be a better fit with what you're doing. (Of course, you are still welcome here, as well. :)) https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... Happy reading!

message 100: by Holly (new)

Holly I am so pleased I've found this group! I am on book number 13, although one of the challenges I've done has been the prequel and sequel one, so technically I've read 14 books (Me Before You and After You). I'm currently reading a New York Times Bestseller, Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty, who also wrote my "A book that's guaranteed to bring you joy," Three Wishes.

Next up is The Snow Child ("A book based on a fairytale") and then Perks of Being a Wallflower ("A YA bestseller").

Please feel free to advise on "A romance set in the future" and "A dystopian novel."

Thanks xx
