Anyone else getting tired of trilogy--stand alone recommendations appreciated

I am starting to get so frustrated with trilogy books and wondered if anyone else is. While I have thoroughly loved this series and FSOG and a few others, I would really love to find some good stand alone novels. I am open to a series that has each book being able to be read as a stand alone and don't have to build on each other.

I really enjoyed Fallen from grace by Laura Leone another good one is by Raine Anthony called Phoenix . You could also try Unplanned Lesson by Beth Rinyu . by Penelope Ward by Eva Morgan. Hope this helps

I am into the Demonica series written by Larissa Ione. It is a paranormal romance series. Though a series, each book can be read independently. I like book 1 and 2 the most. It is more of a new adult or adult book than young adult, because it is loaded with sex.

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. I have read a couple of free eBooks for authors and they all have this cliffhanger and two more books to come. I find now when someone tells me about a book my first question, is it a stand alone novel? I'm slowly working my way through Shayla Black's Wicked Ties series and they are all stand alone, but the character cross books. I'm enjoying it but can't read the same author back to back. Thanks to your discussion I have added some new books to my To-Read list.

I really like trilogy's. However, having said that, I now wait until the whole series has been release before I start reading them. It has been some 10 months since the release of Crossfire 3 - Entwined With You. That is just insane!! I have a few other trilogy's that I am also waiting on, 3 of which are also Ms. Day's. It is so very frustrating. So, I decided the author(s) can now wait for me.

A few stand alone's that I have enjoyed are Unbound by Cara McKenna, Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and Left Drowning by Jessica Park.

I read My Unexpected Forever which is part 2 of The Beaumont Series, by Heidi Mclughlin. I loved it so much it made me want to read more, so I read part 1, and loved this too. They are all stand alone books so you don't need to read in any particular order as they focus on different characters in each book. Not as hard core as BTY or FSOG but more genuine story, I think. I'm so tired of trilogies that barely have enough plot for one book! I liked On Dublin Street but didn't read any other in the series. I also recently liked Love Simmers and Burning Dawn. Both are essentially stand-alone books

SO AGREE WITH YOU! By the time the next novel in the series is out, I'm kind of over the story line and have read so much in between that I've forgotton about the characters and plot etc etc.

A great stand alone is The Sweet Gum Tree. So good and you get a resolution in one book. I almost wish there was a follow-up book it was so good.

It's a tricky one, because as a writer, I want people to fall in love with my characters, and enjoy the snapshot of time I set the story in, but we don't want people to ask for more.
Would you be upset with an author who wrote a standalone, and at a later date added a sequel?

I think it's good for authors to write a stand alone if that is what the story calls for, and then add another story if the readers want it.

As an example, in Nora Roberts' Chesapeake Bay series, she didn't write the final book until years later. We wanted to hear the youngest brother's story.

I don't have a problem with a stand-alone that gets a second book at a later date. I like the sense of completion and full story the stand-alone has. If the story is real good and another comes out I will read it.

Stand alone books are great if the ending seems complete. Sometimes an author who writes a stand-alone seem to be rushing the ending after a very detailed and good beginning and one is left with a sense of the work being incomplete. In such a case, I would not mind getting a resolution to the story with a follow-up book. There are many books though that are stand-alone and feel complete and satisfying. The Sweet Gum Tree was certainly one of them.

I really appreciate the comments and suggestions. I think my frustration is finishing a book and then having to wait because, as others have said, so many other books are read in between I have forgotten aspects of the first book. I also don't mind series that each book focuses on a character such as Nora Roberts books so you get the whole "family" wrapped up. I just really like for the story to be completed.

I know you said you weren't big on series, but Olivia Cunning has a series called Sinners on Tour, and they are all out pretty much and they can be read as stand alones for the most part.

Yes, sick of Trilogies.... hopefully authors and publishers will get the memo soon. Stand alones I loved: Surviving Raine, After Hours by C McKenna, On The Island, After I Do, The Rosie Project, Forbidden by T Suzama, and every single written by Kristen Ashley - because each book (even the series books) can be read as a stand alone... the story concludes (except her Three series)... characters just continue to appear in later stories. It's hard to find stand alone anymore. It seems like some start out that way but if they get a good response from readers they decide to write another book. I've been enjoying series by Kristen Ashley, Abbi Glines, Aurora Rose Reynolds, and Harper Sloane because each book in the series has a separate set of main characters so you can read them out of order or skip one and it makes no difference.

My favorite stand alone for this type of read was Beth Kery's . It's a true stand alone, not a spin off, or part of any series what so ever. It's just a good erotic read, with grown up characters, and surprising emotional depth.
