We're going to an Irish buffet tonight. Corned beef and cabbage, Guinness Beef Stew, Shepherd's Pie, Irish Soda Bread. Hmmm. Don't recall what dessert is going to be.

The girl did good...even if the date was sadly lacking

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Sharon, I am doing the same. Jury is still out with this one. Can you make it to page 50? If it still is a struggle, it's OK to tell the reviewer it seems to be out of your comfort zone and bow out. Personally, I would try to be kind and not put in a dnf review.

Kerry while you have been away I had a lot of problems.

For 2-3 months I have been fighting a bad virus, which as you know is harder as a diabetic.

A few weeks ago it got quite a bit worse so the doctor put me on Steroids and antibiotics, the side effect, which I find out afterwards, doing my own studies.

The steroids he put me on the side effect was lowers blood sugar levels, so I was off work for two weeks wondering why I was feeling very ill, weak, tired and dizzy. In two weeks I was rushed to hospital A & E where my sugars went to 2.2 -2.4 - 2.3 and 2-9, each time the doctors thought I would go in a coma, but my fitness helped a little, but very frightening.

But a week later I was back to work and playing tennis, snooker, walking my friends dogs for 8-10 mile walks.

In other words my "mad rush around like a lunatic!

Today spent 3-4 hours clearing a garage out, but hurt my back sat down and rested, thought I just check my sugars, 3.2 low again.

Kerry you must do your best to look after yourself. I know I have more trouble with my sugars going low, as my whole life is rushing around, with walking 8-10 miles a day at work, and I must try to remember I am now coming up for 57 years old, and should slow down, but my mind is so active.

That is one reason I worried when you disappeared for a while, I watch all my regulars carefully, and do miss them, but saw a few messages on Facebook, but happy to have you back.

And I know life will get better, we all have tough times, but you come out stronger, I promise.

I have, being mentally strong has helped me through some tough times in the last few years, and a strong wife beside me, and a lot of friends here !

am only 8% of the way through but I don't think I can read any more its so bad - its supposed to be a genre I like however the book isn't really sitting within it and its just getting worse

I would stop, Sharon, and contact the author. No point in going further. Authors understand these things. Perhaps it's the writing style that is not gelling with you?

message 3924: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Sean, you need to be careful, and not let the diabetes take you down. It is so easy for it to get out of your control.

message 3925: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Hunter (kerryelizabeth) Oh gosh I know how that feels. I ended up with a bad flu a few months ago and was checking my blood sugars every hour to make sure I was on track. my hba1c is down to 7 now so I'm really proud of that :)

I need to start doing more exercise I think. Need to take a leaf out of your book. Hopefully things are a bit more stable for you in the future. Those sugars are scary :(

My depression has been bad but I'm trying to come out of it and make some life choices which will benefit me. Your words of support mean more to me than you will ever fully understand. All of you. I feel so at home here and always always have.

Jenni Boyd | 152 comments Hi, I just wanted to say to all those lovely people who were concerned about my well being due to an approaching cyclone, all is well, the cyclone moved back out to sea, causing no damage apart from loss of branches, leaves and some flooding, which no one complained about, as we desperately needed rain, and now all the creeks and dams are full. Today is our first day of sunshine in over a week, the birds are singing, new flowers are opening, and everything is lovely and green. Now time to get some washing done! :)

its just so boring - the characters are insubstantial and the storyline is fractured. to be honest it doesn't seem very well put together and there is no fluidity to it

message 3945: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments Happy First Flat day!

I HATE the stuff on Facebook. A while back it used to be friend's posts. Now it's crap about vitamins, face cream and 'singles in your area'. I go on about once a month...maybe.
GoodReads for books or Instagram for photography is all the social media I indulge in.

message 3946: by Dawn (last edited Mar 15, 2015 11:44AM) (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments Titas The Emperor, I hope things are going better. You hold a very special place in my thoughts. Like Gopal said, this too shall pass my friend.

Kerry, I hope that you are feeling better and that the next date you go on is wonderful. How exciting to move into your first big girl flat. Have fun putting your place together!

I have been extremely busy at work and am struggling emotionally with my bosses retirement. I had posted about it a while back and many of you gave me awesome advise and support. I am busy planning his retirement party and am going a little above and beyond because I feel he deserves it. The theme of the party is candy and I am making all table centerpieces out of candy. I am crafty anyway, but I must say, they are quite beautiful. When I have them all completed, I will have to post a picture.

Ter'e, I hope you are feeling better as well. I totally relate to how life gets in the way of our GR time. If I am away too long, I start to miss my GR family and friends.
