Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments DA, are you reading anything right now?

message 3603: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Hi Chris, I'm reading Unwanted by Kristina Olsson, sorry cant link on my phone. I really like Scandi crime and have finished the Karin Fossum series so I'm starting on this one now. Haven't got very far but trying to get into reading again.

I had a DNF recently for them too, and I said in my review that I was unable to finish it because after struggling through just over half the book, it just had nothing to hold my interest. Afterwards I looked up other reviews for it, and ho-one had rated it highly so I didn't feel bad.

Oh, I know that one, DA. It's on my list. Dawn really liked it. I have the first Karin Fossum in paperback in my bedroom. Gotta get to it.
I'm really glad to see you, DA. (-:
When you are tired of Scandi novels, try All Good Deeds by Stacy Green. If you have any interest in historical fiction, try The Nightingale. Outstanding.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments What! It's only 11:00. I am going to bed now. Janet's the night owl. Janet goes to bed after me and is 6 hr ahead! She is probably diving into a new book or rocking out with You Tube as we speak...

Hope you have a good night, Ter'e. XO

Ty

PS Tom Selleck is 70 years old last week.

I have joined Net Galley last night.

Waiting for quite a few books, but have 3 passed for review.

But did not go onto my kindle last night, will look this morning.

message 3610: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I also had difficulty at first with Netgalley, when I clicked on send to my Kindle, and it didn't show up.

Some files take longer than others to be processed through Amazon's Personal Document Delivery Service.

You have to restart your Kindle to sync it. On the Kindle, go to menu, Settings.

Within Settings, click Menu again and you'll see Restart. Click that and after it goes through Amazon, the file should be sent to your Kindle.

If you are using a Kindle app, close the app completely and re-start it to refresh.

Then you will see everything reloading up again in your Kindle with the new ones at the top or beginning page from Netgalley. I used to have a lot of difficulty getting the books sent to my Kindle, but now it is easy.

FYI

Sue

I have never had any success with Netgalley ? :S

message 3612: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 146 comments I still have the occasional book that takes forever to come through from Netgalley!

Kimberley - if you look at Netgalley, there is a section "Read Now" that anyone can download without approval. If you find anything there that you like, its a good way to build up your "ratings" initially for when you request other books.

message 3613: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you Elaine! That is really helpful I didn't know that! I will have a look now!

I have Amazon.co.uk up, goodreads and my kindle one, and net galley.

Not come up on Amazon .co.uk

But have just gone onto my kindle.

So I guess because I clicked send to kindle, are not appearing on my amazon order page/books but went straight to my kindle?

message 3616: by [deleted user] (new)

Just downloaded The Venus Trap by Louise Voss on Netgalley.
Just a quick question.. do you get a certain amount of time to review? Do you have to return the eBook? Thanks for being patient with me! :)

Kim, Read Now is great and is how I started out! Netgalley let's you keep the ebooks you get from them. Need to read before archive date I think. I wouldn't hold on to them too long as that may affect your ability to be approved. Am I right on that, Sue? Would def read before archive date.

message 3621: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Hi Chris, nice to see you too :-) Thanks for the recommendations, I will have a look at those. I think you bought the Karin Fossum on my recommendation so I hope you like it!! Different feel than the usual thriller, much more spare and kind of thoughtful, not big tension and drama but I really like them. I'm enjoying Unwanted so far and I think there's a few more in the series.

message 3622: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Sean, that's happened to me a few times where I've accidently downloaded more than one copy of a book from NetGalley. I guess it might work to completely delete it and then just re-send it (but only once haha!). I'll have a go at that.

message 3623: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Sean, that has also happened to me and def takes much longer to show up than an Amazon purchase.

message 3624: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments DA, I LOVE your new profile picture. So nice!
Yes, you helped me find a translated copy of Fossum's first book. Definitely looking forward to getting to it. Sue1958 told me to move up Sleep Tight by Rachel Abbott. She loved it and I see you gave it 4 stars so I put it on my Top 5 shelf. Does look good!

In order to remove a book from the list on your Kindle, make sure you are on the book you wish to delete, and then go to the navigation box, and left click once on the left arrow key. You will see message REMOVE FROM DEVICE over this book. Then click once in the middle of the navigation box and it will be removed.

yes books that you have bought don't disappear permanently from your account. they just move from device to cloud.

message 3629: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments So how do you get rid of cloud books?

message 3630: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Yes Christine and Sean. Books don't permanently disappear but go from your device to cloud.

message 3631: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments There has to be a way to clean up the cloud, right?

message 3632: by Sue (last edited Feb 28, 2015 07:48AM) (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments It is just like your history on the computer, it remains in the cloud, until you want to resend it to your Kindle from Amazon (under Manage your Devices)under Documents. A list will appear of those books you have downloaded fro Netgalley. If you click under the column ACTIONS for the book you want, you can resend it to your Kindle.(Turn wireless on first.) If it doesn't appear on your Kindle, follow my original steps for it to show. All history is maintained on Amazon.

DianeAlice | 142 comments Thanks Chris!! New Year, new photo :-)

Hi Aaron, how's it going? Think you just got lost among the NetGalley confusions!

message 3634: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Great! Hope you find a job soon, is it hard where you are? I know it's tough most places.

Chris, yes I loved the Rachel Abbott books, there are three featuring the same detective but I can't remember which came first so you might want to check that out. I've read them all and also chatted to the author on here once, she was lovely.

message 3635: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments We could never snub you, Aaron. (-:
I wish you all the best with the job hunt. Stressful stuff.

message 3636: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Chris! I will try and get them read before archive date but you know what its like when I've got tons waiting patiently in line to be read!!
Janet I think you mentioned about returning and refunding books to Amazon, something else I didn't realise! Found it very useful recently when I've changed my mind, or started something then didn't like it, its great to get my money back ! Think there is a cut off mark, as I've got older ebooks that you can't return.

message 3637: by [deleted user] (new)

good luck job hunting Aaron! :)

message 3638: by [deleted user] (new)

Still waiting for Claire Mackintosh's I Let you go to go down in price! £6.99!!!

I quite often dont finish reading them until after the archive date and as long as you still send them the feedback it doesnt seem to make much difference.

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments DianeAlice wrote: "Kimberley, I got I Let You Go from NetGalley so it's worth you having a go to see if you can get it from them."

Can't wait to get this book, but it is not available to Canadians on Netgalley, and it is too expensive in paperbook, $20 Cdn.

message 3644: by [deleted user] (new)

I've requested it, but I'm new to Netgalley so I'm unlikely to get it. My ratio percentage thingy is 17% ... oh dear. Better get reviewing !

message 3645: by [deleted user] (new)

OK thanks Elaine. I have 2 on my kindle at the moment so will try and get them read asap!

message 3647: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Kim, I only got it a couple of days ago so haven't read it yet but hopefully will get to it when I finish what I'm reading. Just keep requesting whatever you like the look of, you will be successful for some of them.

Titas.... How did you miss this thread !!

Sue thanks for help !

In fact just gone onto Amazon.co.uk, settings and checked all my books, four books had not gone onto my kindle.

Sent from amazon to kindle now.

Including The Girl On The Train

message 3649: by Sue (last edited Feb 28, 2015 09:29AM) (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Yes Sean. I just requested from the READ NOW section, a book to download. I turned the wireless on, on my Kindle. Clicked on the book I wanted, READ NOW, and then SEND TO KINDLE. Then opened up Amazon, under MANAGE YOUR CONTENT AND DEVICES, and clicked on DOCS, and my book appears on the top of the list. Then clicked under ACTIONS beside the book, and clicked on send to my Kindle.

Then to get it on my Kindle:
(1) Click MENU
(2) Click SETTINGS
(3) Click MENU again
(4) Click RESTART

Then all books will reload, with your most recent book showing on the top. Let it load completely. A few minutes.

THEN REMEMBER TO TURN WIRELESS OFF.
