E, you need a drink!

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'm an auntie! My brother's wife just delivered a healthy 6-lb baby girl in Boston!

Congratulations, Kirsten. When she starts to talk, make liberal use of the phone. And don't forget about Skype!

I've just realised I've done something really stupid. Anal me who is ploughing through Mo Hayder's Jack Caffery series has somehow managed to bypass book 4, Skin, and gone straight to book 5!! I don't know how I did it but I'm loathe to go back because I think I've already read spoilers. So, here's the thing, Brenda, have you read Skin yet? I'm looking for a couple of answers to some key points otherwise I'll PM Dawn. I know she's read it. Unless there's anyone else? *maybe*

message 3561: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Janet, no, haven't read Skin. It's my next Hayder.

No worries, Brenda, it can wait. Whenever you do get to it, let me know please, I'll interrogate you then!! ;-)

It's been a freaky warm winter in WA so far!

message 3566: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Perry, So you're the ones hogging the warmth this winter! Actually, didn't you have rain? A lot of rain? Or weren't you affected by the Pineapple Express?

I'm kind of protected by a rain shadow, but Seattle was deluged. Probably by combined tears following the SuperBowl :)

Just goes to show it is worth keeping an eye on Amazon books, I just downloaded SJ Watson's latest book for £1.88, it was originally priced at something ridiculous like over £10!

message 3571: by [deleted user] (new)

And tomorrow the price will probably shoot back up!

message 3572: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Great pickup, Kim! Did you like his first book?

message 3573: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I just checked Amazon in US. Still $13.59. Judging from the poor reviews I see maybe that's why UK dropped price. I also see Elaine gave it a 1 star.
Ouch!

message 3574: by [deleted user] (new)

Yup, it has a lot of bad reviews but I do want to read it. Loved his debut!

message 3575: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Then you may well like the sequel, Kim. Report back when you are done.

Brenda | 2434 comments Janet wrote: "No worries, Brenda, it can wait. Whenever you do get to it, let me know please, I'll interrogate you then!! ;-)"

Yikes! An interrogation by Janet. I'd better study and take notes.

Brenda! ;-)

I didn't like S J Watson's first book, couldn't believe it got picked up for a movie. I thought it was predictable and could see it coming a mile away!! Will check out the second on Amazon. It was on Netgalley here Christine, might still be but I didn't request it.

I can't believe you would ever be denied with all the reviews you do, Sue.

I don't get approval for everything. Makes me feel like I've been naughty?!! ;-)

message 3583: by Sue (last edited Feb 27, 2015 09:50AM) (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Sure Christine. Sometimes there is no reason, it seems. I got approved for example for the first two books in The Whispers Trilogy(novella) but not the third or last one. I was denied Normal, so I bought it. On Netgalley under my profile it shows I have a 95% approval rating based on all the books I read, and provide a review/feedback. Go figure? Can't be perfect!!!

message 3584: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Yet I got approved Normal but got turned down for something else. Publishers definitely favour bloggers, librarians, etc. And there a limited number of ARCs. My percentage is only at 68% I think. I am bad! ;-)

message 3585: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Ha, I never do reviews, just give stars but have still had quite a few books from NetGalley ;-) I got Normal from them the other day, have got about 20 waiting to read!! I think a lot of it is which country you're in and just random sometimes really.
Yoohoo Janet!! Hope you're well.

message 3586: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Just checked and mine is 93% !!?? I've never written a single word of a review so that's weird.

message 3587: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hi DA!! Hey Sue, I think DA may have stolen your identity!

message 3588: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments That doesn't make sense DA! I post a review for every book I read, but you are bad DA...no written reviews, only ratings??? Something is wrong somewhere, but it is true that the country in which you reside effects the selection, maybe.

message 3589: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Hello DA!! Glad to see you! I heard your news and I'm very sorry about what happened. Sounds like she was a brave cat and I'm sure you've got many happy memories from those 23 years.

I had Netgalley chasing me about giving feedback!! There are some that I will never read on my list but on the whole I'm reviewing every book I read.

message 3590: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
I was under the impression written reviews were expected?!

message 3591: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments So was I, as when you go to give feedback, the star rating is on the left, but it asks you to post the actual review and then provide the link.

message 3592: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Yeah I don't link. I talk to invisible person at other end. Copy and paste my actual review and may say a few words again. They probably think I'm nuts but meh!

message 3593: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments I know I'm so bad!! I do feel guilty about it but I can't seem to have the confidence to get the words together for a review ! I just give the stars, click on the 'no' not reviewing for a publication, 'yes or no' to recommending to friends and 'yes or no' to wanting to hear more about author , then just press send feedback. I'm a wrong 'un that's for sure ;-)

Thanks Janet, yes she was a determined little soul, it was traumatic what happened at the vet, just got to get on with it now.

If I give up on a netgalley read I always give feedback along the lines of "sorry, I couldn't get into this one" but without any stars and nothing in the review box.

Oh, that's good to know, Elaine. I dnf'ed a Net Galley book and didn't do anything so have that as a negative on my record. It's my only demerit as I reviewed everything else. That's good advice, Elaine.

I am so sorry to read about the death of your cat. We love our pets so much.
