Pat, my wish for you is to find what you seek. Dawn, I'm so glad you're comfortable with us. We're such a family!! :-)
Thanks to all for your support. What a great group of people! I have some book review obligations so I'm not totally gone but will be a minimalist.

Yep, that is Adrian five years ago. I really need to get some new ones.

thanks Freda :)
Yeah? Well try having two of them, exact lookalikes. lol Double trouble for sure. Took me a while to get used to the assembly line baths and feedings. I needed a conveyor belt! The rewards though, priceless. Double art presents, double the laughs, doubled everything fun.

David wrote: "Can't beat growing and eating your own veg. I gave up my allotment last year, just didn't have enough spare time to keep on top of the weeds. I will still be growing a few things in the garden though."Can you expand on giving up your allotment?
David wrote: "Expand, Perri? What do you want to know?"Ha! Well who is giving you an allotment? What are you allotted? I want an allotment!
is allotment a British thing? Not sure.A small patch of land that is rented for the purpose of growing fruit and vegetables. The one I had was roughly 40x80 metres and cost me a yearly rent of £12. There are 40 allotments on the site, which is set among fields. A great place to be of a summer's evening. Unfortunately after six years of working this plot, I found I no longer had time for it.
"...the purpose of growing fruits and vegetables..."In my neighborhood that's called "the back yard".
Interesting-who owns the plot or who do you pay? We do have community gardens around here-I think it's more a city wide initiative. Do you have CSAs (Community Sustained Agriculture)? They run in different ways but commonly you pay a farm a fee and they bring you what they're harvesting during the growing season. E, that's how I like to grow my fruits and veggies :)
Our seniors in assisted living have several community gardens. They are each placed next to their building and they come out whenever they want to and plant what they want. They often give out to their families and trade. The city donated the space and the fertilizer as well as the fences to keep the rabbits out. E. you are so right. Ours is called a back yard. haha.
Geez, Freda, the folks in my Dad's assisted living place can barely get themselves to the dining room with their walkers. I can't imagine them trying to plant and take care of a garden!
Hi David, I think you and I are the only ones around this whole place right now. nWhere are all the UKers?
Christine, why are you up so late? Are you okay? I went to bed at 1:00A.M. and woke up now at 4:30 A.M. and then I will go back to bed.
My allotment - I also gave it up last year - writing is a jealous mistress! (or master?) was land owned by the village church. It was designated for a car park but the encroaching housing made the entrance (a tiny grassy lane) too tight. There are only 11 plots there and we paid £15 a year for them. Most British back yards aren't big enough!
Christine wrote: "Hi David, I think you and I are the only ones around this whole place right now. nWhere are all the UKers?"Sorry, Chris, I posted my last message just before leaving for work. I'm working now, supposedly, but it is a library, so, shush.
Sue wrote: "Christine, why are you up so late? Are you okay? I went to bed at 1:00A.M. and woke up now at 4:30 A.M. and then I will go back to bed."Hi Sue, just couldn't stay away. David you have to work today? Bummer. At least it's in a wonderful place. Like Aaron, I looove the library smell. As good as new car smell!!
Good Morning! It snowed again last night, just a little bit, and expecting more in a few hours. I woke up COLD! Some kind of weird dream too, can't remember it. Currently reading I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. My lovely book pal Gopal is having a month from 'hell' and may not get around to this book. Dug out an old camera last night, took it apart, dusted it off and hoping the charge will work. I suppose I have Christine to thank. As much as I dislike having my photo taken, she has convinced me that it is time to take stock of new memories.
It is especially soundless this morning. It's quiet all the time for someone like me. Save for the occasional tinnitus I experience when stress is apparent. The soft reverberation of Mazie's snores as she sleeps on my feet, oblivious to the soft tapping of my fingernails on the keys. The absence of the quaking boom as a fist full of haste beats against the bathroom door to remind the other twin to hurry. It is mornings like this that seem to unnerve me the most, causing me to look over my shoulder every few seconds. Are you here, Justin??
Kelly wrote: "What do you think of I Am Pilgrim so far Freda? I haven't read it yet but it's on my TBR list"On page 178 Kelly and this book has really got my attention. I can't say much because I don't want to give it away (Gopal is my reading buddy this month). There is a bunch of information in the first few chapters, a kind of excerpt of where, when, how and why for this guy (Pilgrim) but I'm really liking the writing style. It's not mundane like some others. I'm not saying things to myself like "Yeah yeah, let's get on with it" LOL
It snowed overnight in Toronto, and will snow all day and night. When my husband gets up, I know what he will be doing all day!!!
Christine wrote: "Geez, Freda, the folks in my Dad's assisted living place can barely get themselves to the dining room with their walkers. I can't imagine them trying to plant and take care of a garden!"Actually most of the seniors who can still take care of themselves are in assisted living over here. The ones that can't anymore are in nursing homes. Slight difference there. The gardens are attached to the building (take elevator down, walk out the door, walla you're in the garden). There are quite a few seniors who take care of the garden so it is hardly ever unattended. In fact, some sit in the garden and chat because there is nothing left to do but they love the soil, the smells and the feel of the sun. During winter (like today) they cover it up until spring decides to stick and they get back to it. If at any point the seniors are not able to get out there and the garden needs to be tended, there are several of us volunteers that go and check on it and do what we can to help out. :) I love it.
